Shahid Kapoor: We hit it off the moment we met

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were one of the most loved couples in Bollywood. Their on-screen and of-screen chemistry had set couple goals for many youngsters. They stole many hearts with their portrayal of Geet and Aditya in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met. Tough after years of breaking up, they are now happily married with kids their relationship is still the most talked about phase of their lives.

Shahid and Kareena started dating during the shoot of Fida which also starred Fardeen Khan in a pivotal role. After dating for almost 5 years, they broke up as Bebo started getting close to her Tashan co-star and now husband Saif Ali Khan.

As per previous reports by MissMalini, the other reasons behind their break-up were that Kareena’s mother and sister, Babita and Karisma Kapoor, were not very fond of Shasha even if belongs to a well-known filmy lineage.

It was also reported that Kareena’s fondness towards Shahid was turning into an obsession as she continuously asked all of her directors and producers to cast them together in films.

Speaking about their love affair and break-up, this once madly-in-love couple, never shied away from the media or never hid their ‘more than just friends’ status. ‘Woh Jo Kehte The Bichdenge Na Hum Kabhi, Alvida Ho Gaye Dekhte Dekhte…’ these lines from a well known song, perfectly describe what happened with Shahid and Kareena, as their love died a slow death.

In a throwback interview with Bombay Times, Shahid Kapoor revealed the reason behind his movies with Kareena not working well. He said, "Kareena and I looked really bad together in our first couple of films. Jab We Met was just a really good film… the characters worked and people remember that. Besides Sonakshi, I like my pairing with Amrita (Rao), Priyanka (Chopra) and Kareena (Kapoor)."

Asked whether he would be friends with his exes again and share a warm rapport with them, the 38-year-old actor had revealed, “It's difficult. It depends on a lot of things, on how you parted and the circumstances you are in now. It depends on the people who you are with now, whether they are comfortable with your being friends with someone you used to be with. It's difficult, but not impossible. Kudos to someone who can do that. But it's difficult and it would be easier to say yes, than to go ahead and do it."

The Kabir Singh actor told Cosmopolitan that he was very moody as sometimes he used to get all romantic and take then-girlfriend, Kareena Kapoor for long drives, and sometimes, he used to get quite sporty and take her for jet-skiing.

Talking about what happened after they met, he had continued, "We were dating within the first week of meeting each other...so you can say that, yes, we hit it off the moment we met!"

Shahid Kapoor further elaborated, "The fact that we have such different personalities. She is extremely outspoken and impulsive. I am the opposite. We fill in each other's empty spaces, balance out each other's strengths and weaknesses, and that's what keeps us together."

Commenting on coping with breakups, Shahid had stated, "I would sit in a corner and listen to emotional and heartbroken music to escape the depression and also took the shoulders of friends and family members to be able to handle it."

Having been through broken relationships, Shahid Kapoor had said that breakup is a very dangerous phase in life as one feels their heart has broken into pieces, "You just keep brooding about one individual, and that is your love. At this point in time you do not like your surroundings and people around you as well.

"You damage yourself unknowingly, and this is shown in Kabir Singh as well. I too got nostalgic while playing this character, it reminded me of my college days. If you like a girl, you feel as though your heart has broken in pieces when she does not talk to you or does not respond. You feel emotional."

Until now, Bebo and Shasha have starred in 5 movies together Fida, Milenge Milenge, 36 China Town, Chup Chup Ke and Jab We Met. They also worked in Udta Punjab, but never once did they share the same screen space.

Now after several years of their break-up, while Shahid got hitched to ‘girl from another world’, Mira Rajput, in an arranged marriage and is a happy father to two, Misha and Zain; Kareena got married to Saif Ali Khan and is mother of internet sensation Taimur Ali Khan.

Damn this brings back memories...I was 10ish when JWM released and my friends and I were so sure that these two would get married 😳

But I am very happy for Shahid now, he is married with kids and has a happy life...poor guy went through hell after the break-up

I loved them. I honestly thought they’d be together forever. Both of them seem to be the types who don’t take relationships lightly, this holds true especially for Kareena. She is loyal to the bone. I really wonder what happened between the two, I need answers:(

Two of the most attention seekers. Anyway i like Shahid's looks and Kareena's natural ease at acting (sometimes) most of the times she freaks me out thinking she shud have played Pisachini. I always felt Shahid looked younger than Kareena.

They were very cute together. There was a Stardust interview of theirs that showed that though their relationship was new, they were really in love with each other.

Kareena Kapoor fell in love very quickly with Shahid and moved on from him as quickly as she fell for him. Even though she was dating Saif Ali Khan, they didn’t come out with the truth for a while. They were caught by the paps coming out of a restaurant together and that’s when they decided to come out with the fact that they were dating by making an appearance together at a fashion show.

I am obviously speculating but I think it is obvious looking back at their dating history and character. Shahid and Saif couldn’t be more opposite. Shahid is insecure and could not provide the lifestyle and security Kareena wants from a partner. Same happened with Priyanka - I don’t think Shahid can handle a strong, ambitious and needy woman that’s why he married a much younger, impressionable and homely girl. He said it many times that he prefers a simple lifestyle and is not materialistic. Kareena fell for his looks and his popularity back then was up the roof. Saif was popular, much older, confident and rich when she met him. In the end what matters is that they all found their match and are happy. And I believe they all are.
