She's killing it in the Jaadu Jaadu song.
Yaraana could have been a perfect darkish comedy until it got completely derailed in the final scenes.
I particularly liked her comedy in yaaraana with kadir khan when he call her old woman and madhuri replied in a funny english accent "tu buddha teri maa hogi buddhi" the way she says those dialogues was hilarious ..
and those old witch getups in raja 😆
Khel was an out and out great comic film in which madhuri shined like a diamond with her perfect comedy timing.
not just that, she had countless great comedy acting sequences in many films of hers which were partly comic

Yes to all of the above and I loved her scenes with Kader Khan, too. The contrast of those funny, sweet-hearted scenes with the final part of Yaraana couldn't have been more grating. I guess that is a usual problem with Indian remakes of Anglophone property - the sense of proportion is gone. LOL

Back then in 90s it was more about a MIX PLATE OF SPICES/ MASALA MOVIE
Even a horror 100 days was decorated with comedy scenes of laxmikant berde and many love songs injected in it.
Yaaraana was no different.... they tried to make all sections of audience happy who seek drama music comedy intense scenes all in one movie... daraar was another not so good remake of sleeping with an enemy....agni sakshi was the best copy of SWAN although it also had many unnecessary songs, but the essence was intact.

I get it - masala and stuff - and I didn't mind the music at all (+ Madhuri's picturizations of "Jaane Woh Kaisa Chor Tha" and "Mera Piya Agar Aaya" were truly iconic) but they should have made the ending less bloody and less absurd (Rishi as the last second saviour etc.), and maybe Yaraana wouldn't have flopped. I bet the audiences were gobsmacked with the second part of the movie, and not in a good way.

I like loye loye as well.
yes that's true, the first and second half felt like 2 different movies
David dhawan was not the best choice to direct such serious & intense subject
Also the title "yaraana" made no sense with respect to the theme of the movie and its subject in totality. (but it was an entertaining flick, nonetheless).

This so much.
She starred in almost every film genre in existence, with the exception of S-F. And to be accurate, none of her films were musicals (which, incidentally, is a pity). She's considered a fabulous dancer precisely because of her acting in those dance numbers you seem so keen to belittle. And she gave fabulous performances in many films, showing a wide range of emotions, determination to play risky roles and support non-commercial filmmakers too, and a welcome restraint when restraint was, sadly, not in fashion in Indian cinema. Cases in point: Anjaam, Dil, Beta, Pukar, Prem Pratigyaa, Ram Lakhan, Mrityu Dand, Tezaab, Parinda, Prahaar, Zindagi Ek Juaa, Sangeet, Khal Nayak, Devdas, Lajja, Aaja Nachle, Dedh Ishqiya. All in all, one can like or dislike actors, but that is not reason enough to spout nonsense.
Just starring in every genre doesn’t mean she did a great job in them. I’ve seen most of her movies as I grew up watching her so no need to remind me of her filmography. I don’t remember any standout scenes of Madhuri in her movies. She cannot rise above weak scripts. Most recent one being Kalank which was a bad movie in itself. But among the star cast, Madhuri was was so cringeworthy.

Your poor memory is not an argument, just a cringeworthy excuse, like the rest of your comment.

I’ve actually got a very good memory. I can’t help it if Madhuri’s acting is cringeworthy and forgettable.
Both are amazing performers. Both of these performances are top level. If I had to choose one it would be Madhuri. There was much more to the role. The narrative backed her character with a tight grip. Her whole backstory, the family, the husband, her sister's troubles. Everything leads Shivani to the point on the edge of the cliff. You feel every beat. I actually rewetted Anjaam about 2 weeks ago. When I was thinking about my stalker-ex, and what could have happened if I didn't get out of that situation.

Not asking about your fav or who was the better actress. Just asking who was more popular, the bigger superstar, and had more cultural impact...
