Veteran Actress Sandhya Shantaram Passes Away
Madhuri in Anjaam
Both roles are good, but for me Madhuri in Anjaam all the way, and not only on account of doing intense, violent things.
Difficult choice but I prefer madhuri in anjaam at least between the 2 performances.
on the sets of Anjaam
Sridevi. She has acted in similarly intense films in Telugu and Tamil so she has the experience to back her up. She was a real trendsetter going for such an intense role and situation-a woman held in Hong Kong on death row being falsely accused of sneaking in Cocaine to the country. Usually women intense roles involved just rape situations or obessive men, this was different. I mean man, the emotions she expressed being in such a situation was so realistic, no overacting. It's like you were there and makes you so nervous and at the edge of your seat, worried about if Sridevi's character is going to die. She has such an innocent looking face but as the fight scene proved it would be foolish to take that as a sign of weakness. She was in a very vulnerable state in the jail, at her wit's end and then she finally unleashed all that energy- she made the fight scene so epic! I mean holding the woman's face down the flushing toliet and then slamming her face in the mirror shattering it- was like a hollywood action scene and she performed as such. When Sanajy Dutt character met her when she was locked Sridevi so convencing acted as a girl who was desperate to get out even if Dutt's character before made her character uncomfortable. One of the best scenes is when the drag her prisoner friend out to be killed and Sridevi hold her legs screaming and shakes the bars helplessly then the thousand eye stare and that half second shake whimper she does with the stare is just so gut wrenching and shows she paid such an attention to detail and lived the character, she never does anything less then her all.
Yes Sanjay was there as the girl pinning for Sridevi, but this was not a love story, or a Sanjay Dutt film or even a Sanjay and Sridevi film. As critics agreed, this was truly a Sridevi film. And that was the thing, with Sridevi, she never has to rely on other actors for a film. She was always the main appeal of a film. And she truly showcased why she is so highly regarded and showed actresses are capable of doing more complex and serious roles with Ghulam.
Some scenes I talked about:

Sridevi all the wayyyyyyy everyday!!!!!
If the comparison is between Sridevi's Gumrah and Madhuri's Anjaam, then Madhuri fosho..
However, if the comparison is between Sridevi an actress and Madhuri an actress, then Sridevi by miles... Intense or lighthearted, nobody can hold a candle to Sridevi's versatility. She is what one can call a complete actress...
Sridevi, she emotes so well with her eyes.
I remember after watching Anjaam, I hated SRK so much. He was so good in the movie.
Cringey overacting.

Not asking about your fav or who was the better actress. Just asking who was more popular, the bigger superstar, and had more cultural impact...
Both released in 97. Both superhits. But no one can question that Madz was nothing award worthy in DTPH. And to give her an award in same year...
