I don't understand why people are writing that Kabir should not have got a happy ending or that he should've repented. For what? What did he do? He loved her and wanted to marry her. Just took an injection of morphine and was out for 2 days. She got married. Tab tak toh I didn't think he was wrong really. For all his alcoholic and drug taking habits, he still didn't forget her. Didn't move on. It could be called an obsession but he didn't try to contact her either. So, it's not like he made her life hell. Just his own. He was just being honest with himself. When he saw her again, she wasn't happy. So, he wanted to get back together with her. I don't see anything wrong with that either. In fact, if he had moved on, he would've never known that Preeti left her marriage and was raising his kid alone somewhere. Preeti's life would've been destroyed. It is similar to Veer Zaara in this context that the lovers never give up on each other, not knowing that the other person is still waiting too. I'm happy he got his happy ending. This was the only positive ending that would've made sense to me. If he just moved on and accepted that he was wrong to hold on to her, that would've been such a lie for his character. The only way was for him to get together with her. I wasn't expecting her to have taken such radical steps though. That was cool.
Baki yes he was wrong to be drunk while operating on people, he got his license revoked for that. His addictions came to an end when his grandma died. He decided to move away from that. I don't think that he needed to repent for anything though. It wasn't a villainous character after all.
The points are written down nicely which I fully agree with.👍🏼
Just for the part where you told "I don't think that he needed to repent for anything though" is the part I would elaborate in another way. Coz certainly Kabir repented and his choice of self-destructive path was the representation of it.
(Spoilers below)
Had Kabir waited for exact 6 hours for Preethi and would not have taken the drug injection which made him unconscious for days, then the situation could have been different and he could save Preethi from getting married. But that's where Kabir failed to support Preethi during their hard time coz he had been a self-centered person first of all and didn't think twice about the outcome of the situation before taking the injection. But after waking up when he realized that his world was upside down, he could not accept his drawbacks and the fact that his lover does not belong to him anymore. He let himself suffer and punish through becoming an addicted and an alcoholic. Then later on his eyes opened after losing his another gem, his grandma, whom he could not take care due to all this fiasco. This time he repented in a right way by leaving all his self-destructive behavior behind. Everything was certainly picturized in a beautiful manner.
In fact Kabir would never even think about going back to Preethi's life had he wouldn't noticed her being unhappy. He saw her pregnant and at the same time sorrowful. Though he knew that he could not bring back the time when the things were alright between them, still he tried to make everything okay just because he wanted to see her happy. By then he was already a changed person. This time he thought about her happiness only.
Now those people that have been thinking that how the girl's father accepted them together all on a sudden, let's not forget the fact how the parents behave in our society. In the end the leads marry each other in the movie. We know when a girl marries a guy without her parents' consent, they reject her generally. Then when the same girl becomes pregnant then often the parents tend to forgive her and accept her again. So that was a common situation in the film too.
The issue is
He is the lead character - Hero of the film.
And this is India. Where people blindly think whatever Hero does is correct.
People didn't even even that he was doing wrong.. Only few people realised and protested.
You cannot compare silk smitha to this character as its very different situations.
In this movie, he is over bearing and controlling. He treats her like his beloved pet. And if the pet disobeys him, then he will become abusive.
We are not yet progressed enough to think that this behaviour is bad. If audience is matured enough, by all means make more films like this.
My own female friends liked Arjun Reddy, saying see how much he loves her etc.
This is like Twilight's Edward Cullen againl. In the name of love and protection, these people mentally control and leash the girl.
Khilji was a negative character , is a villain.
In this , he is not a villain. There is no other positive male guy to balance his negativity.
And about Preeti, less said the better. Initially I thought she is dumb..
Although she got some spine in the end, again she accepted him and thats a shame.
From the start they should have established him as a bad guy, then no one would have a problem.
Haven't seen the movie but there was a recent discussion about a topic where sunny deol said that darr glorified the villain and his obsession.
There were pages on pages about how SrK played a character and how he nailed his role etc etc
Now some of them are finding problems with Shahids character being glorified in the movie..
Not the same. Nobody saw SRK’s character in Darr as a hero or thought his love for the girl as passion & pure love. The girl never liked him! Same with Khilji. His desire for Padmavat was not intense love...it was characterized as wanting to own her. Padma never liked Khilji! So these are messed up characters & it was clear.
It seems Kabir’s character is being touted as a hero and his madness as intense & pure love. I saw several tweets about this. THAT is a problem. A movie cannot peddle bad behavior as romantic!!!

I had my reservations and discomfort about the initial priety scenes aswell but ...post that 1 scene, they are in a relationship and it’s consent from both sides...the sex the kissing the intimacy everything......there is no stalking and there is no forcing....he doesn’t slap her on a daily basis....whatever is there in their relationship, it’s from both sides...I saw them as equals ....and they were in a long term committed relationship so I don’t see why this can’t be seen as love if its from both sides...
his whole tu hai kya monologue followed by a slap (note that he doesn’t serially abuse her everyday either) shows his ugliest side to her.....that scene is disturbing as it should be because it is the biggest screw up of his life..his whole life takes a downward turn post that.....
It just goes to show that u may be in a loving relationship but if u cannot control ur emotions ur life is gone
I will say one more thing. Such movies are really bad for men as well. They will think this is how men in love behave (saw several tweets) which is rubbish. Men in love DO NOT do this. If they are doing it, they need help. But such a movie will make it ok for men to say haan pyaar mein hoon so I do this! This is destructive and unhealthy for men.

Yeah, you're right. He did repent for his addictions after his grandma died. I just didn't think he committed a crime big enough to have suffered for it and changed as a person, like others were saying. I think he didn't change as a person in the end, just that he went through a bad phase and got over it and also found happiness in the end. He made a mistake by using that injection, a very impulsive action. But I don't think anything was wrong with him as a person that he needed to change. Just anger management and a bit of humbleness. But those two things didn't change in him anyway.
I haven't seen this movie but can somebody tell me how did the character deal with his anger management issues?
