I haven't watched Kabir Singh only Arjun Reddy. Recently, when I was reading reviews of Kabir Singh, I was surprised that such questions raise on the movie. Though I understood where these reviews were coming from, I didn't understand why it should be made into an issue. Movies are not about telling only stories of so called righteous men and women. If one can appreciate people like Murad and Safeena, then they should also acknowledge existence of people like Kabir and Preeti.
Kabir is a fictional character so is Preeti. I know many say a movie is reflection of our society. I don't know if Kabir Singh is reflection of any society. Maybe it could be. It could be reflection of a society that we are not aware of. India is a vast country, one cannot be too aware of everything.
Is Kabir glorified?
Well, for me, Arjun wasn't glorified. I saw him as a dark, sad man with so much issues in his mind that I didn't know how he slept at night. My major problem with the movie was actually the fact that they let him work at the hospital. No matter how good he was, he didn't deserve to be a doctor with that kind of instability.
Preeti irritated me from the time when he asks her oh no he doesn't ask, he just tells her to come with him for teaching her outside college and she follows him like a puppy.
Many appreciated the friend's character in the movie for standing by Arjun through thick and thin. (Does the friend have main character in Kabir Singh as well?) I really felt if he was that good of a friend, he should have just taken Arjun to a psychiatrist and put him in rehabilitation.
There was this scene about his affair with an actress. I don't remember how that ended. It's been over a year since I watched the movie. So, I am not going to comment on it. However, I guess he tells her he can't be in a serious relationship with her. Right? I am not sure though.
In spite of all this why I didn't think Arjun Reddy is a film that should not have been made or its 'misogynist' favourite word of everyone nowadays ? Well, because it's a movie. As much as people ( note majorly politicians) think a movie is going to change a society over night, its not.
A movie like Dirty picture is not going to make every woman in the country to acknowledge her sexuality, a movie like Padmavat isn't going to make woman go jump in fire, a movie like chak De not going to make everyone turn from cricket to hockey, similarly a movie like Arjun Reddy/ Kabir Singh isn't going to make boys turn to Arjun and girls to Preeti.
It wasn't promoted as a romantic film back in South, I don't know if that's what promotions of Kabir Singh made the film sound like, but we all from the start knew it was a movie about a disoriented character Arjun. So, romance is ruled out already. This movie had a love story that's where line is drawn, no romance.
Vijay Deverkonda is loved not because women saw him as Arjun Reddy, it's only because he is good looking. So, no one is taking romance lessons from Arjun here.
So, why does the bad guy end up getting the girl? Shouldn't karma teach him a lesson?
Hello!! This is a MOVIE. Things happen here with the soul aim to give the audience who paid 300 bugs a happy smile before he exits the theatre.
There are some movies that are close to reality , some totally fictional and some thread in between.
If one is a movie lover, they know what to expect from the movie they are about to watch.
Btw, karma doesn't work so impartially even in real life and we want it for movies? How cute!
Many movies that are protested against actually doesn't cause half the damage in society like it's expected to.
Arjun Reddy released two years ago, very popular in all south states. I am pretty sure 90% population between 18 to 30 must have watched the movie. I have not seen anyone idolise the characters , copy them, take inspiration from them. In fact it's not even the most favourite for many. Everyone only saw it as a movie well made. Why make a mountain out of mole hill and give free promotion to movie and bring to attention things that many would have just forgotten after exiting the cinema hall?
Can we not see a movie as a movie?
I saw few discussions in the thread regarding Padmavat and Khilj's screen space in the movie. I have heard many say Khilj is glorified in the movie. I just want to ask those people only one thing. How did you guys expect the movie to be? Genuinely curious.
