It’s all about numbers, innit? Business 101: profits must be > costs. I know nothing about the inner working of the telly industry, this is just an assumption based on the steady, albeit low trps.

Production Houses get money from the channel to produce shows. The channels earn through advertisements per show. The more the TRP of a show, the more advertisements, the more money. Channel keeps a part of the profit and producers get another part, production cost and actors' salaries are given by channels.

Now if the TRP is low, then earning of the channel is low, so they will invest lesser amount in the show. That's why you will see channels promote their popular shows more than unpopular ones. They cut cost of production because they are unable to get desired profit.

Big stars these days demand no less than 1 lakh per episode. If production houses start paying that much, then they'll go bankrupt. 😆

Even Ekta, considering her shows run for 1000 episodes minimum. 🤔😆
