Deepika was perfect for the role. I loved her kurtis and styling. It's one of my favourite movies because I connect to it alot. Even I share same type of equation with my dad.

As for your question if not Deepika may be Konkona bcoz she has typical bengoli look or Vidya or Rani in their younger days.

It doesn't matter who plays Piku as even though Deepika was Piku, the main lead was always Amitabh. I did not even notice Deepika nor Irfan as they were supporting actors.

I heard Parineeti was offered the role. She would’ve done justice to it. DP was quite good though.

No one.

I say this as someone who was never a Deepika fan, but I absolutely loved Deepika as Piku - hands down one of my favorite Bollywood movies. The thing about this film is, either you connect with it or you don't. I connected with the film (not a Bengali) and I would like to say that was all because of Deepika's portrayal of Piku. The fact that Deepika was able to subtly emote so beautifully throughout the film was everything. There are so many scenes where Deepika's eyes, or her smile or her silence, or her overall demeanor somewhere leave such a mark with you as the audience, and those scenes exactly are what made Deepika shine. Not to mention the way Deepika is able to stay true to Piku's characterization was also very commendable - for example, the way she tries keeping herself together all the time yet has moments of obnoxiousness, vulnerability, sadness etc all of that was so well enacted. So, no one but Deepika.

Rani

Parineeti

Anushka

These actresses have a very fluid and natural dialogue delivery. Irrfan and Amitabh were so incredibly natural in the movie. Plus all 3 of them emote very well and they would have made a fresh and interesting pair with Irfan.

I liked DP as Piku and liked the film too.. but I don't think its a great film. It was boring and slow in many parts and too much focus was given on constipation 😂. Still the reason I liked it was because of accurate portrayal of a Bengali household. As other bengalis here said, I could relate sooo much to the characters. The "kajer masi" not coming for 2 days and Piku's father doing khichkhich.. Piku saying "Baba chup koro" ..so relatable. 😂 Piku being irritable , obnoxious, a bit unlikeable, but still caring is what makes the character real. Its supposed to be that way.

Other than DP I can only imagine Konkona doing this role perfectly .. but DP was hella charming here so don't wanna replace her.

Agree. Amitabh overacted in it. And his accent was a mess. Didn't he get NA for best actor for Piku? He totally didn't deserve it 😕😕

None. DP was good in that movie. 90% of BW's "good actors" are theatrical and over the top... Waise actors movie ka kachra bana sakte the.

Vidya, Rani, Kokona would have all done better justice to the role than Deepika. But Sonam? She would be the one person capable of butchering the role.

This character had a lot more depth and development than most of DP’s characters. And she did justice to the role. But agreed she didn’t take it to another level. In fact her mechanical acting is very much present. She is clearly thinking and trying hard visibly. It’s not spontaneous or natural as some the senior actresses mentioned would have made it. The reason critics praise it so much because it was one of the few times Deepika outdid herself. Maybe Piku along with Cocktail are the two times where she really surpassed expectations about her abilities.
