Part - 14.
Adhira didn't feel the weight of her body falling lifelessly on Zain, neither did she felt herself being carried in his arms.
Zain rushed inside carrying her as his mother called the midwife who not only helped with the process of childbirth but also in many women related ailments.
Syra rubbed Adhira's palms and feet which had gotten ice cold to give her some warmth while Nusrat covered her up gently. Zain wanted to be inside too, but the midwife prohibited him cuz it wouldn't be advisable.
So Nader and Zain stood outside, more like Nader sat down on the comfortable cot in the courtyard while Zain paced the corridor.
His friend even tried to offer him a glass of water, but he refused to have it.
Somewhat ten minutes later, the midwife walked out and Nader offered to walk the elderly lady home while Zain rushed to his mother and sister.
"Unhone kahaa jism pe bohot saare ghaav hai, theek hone mein waqt lagega. Kadhaa to unhone pila diya hai, bas ab aaram ki zarurat hai." Nusrat spoke up, gently.
"Aur sirf jism par nahi, rooh par bhi bohot zakhm hai." Syra observed somberly.
"Naa jaane itne dinon mein ussne kya kuch sahaa hai. Uske dard ka andaza koi nahi laga sakta, naa main. naa tum Zain, aur naa Ammi." She added, looking at both of them.
"Syra sahi keh rahi hai Zain, apni aankhon ke saamne apne pure pariwaar ka qatal hote dekhna kisi jehannum se kam nahi hota aur uss maasoom ko toh saari zindagi yeh yaad rahega. Hume Adhira ko bohot pyar, tavvajo aur waqt dena hoga.
Hum uska dukh mitaa toh nahi sakte par kam zarur kar sakte hain." Nusrat added gently and Zain could see the moisture glistening in his mother's eyes as he nodded understandingly.
Footsteps. She heard the footsteps heading to the door of her house.
The loud rapping of the wooden door followed by curses, she couldn't understand.
She looked for her mother, but she wasn't there. No one was to be found.
The rapping grew louder, she could hear her mother screaming for her to run but she wasn't anywhere to be seen.
Blood flowed from beneath her feet making her scream, they were breaking down the door now. She could hear them shouting, the door would give away any moment.
Her mother's screams were constant asking her to run when a body fell over from the rooftop.
It was her mother, bathed in blood, whimpering in pain as she could see the light of life growing dim in her eyes..
"Maaa!!!!" Adhira woke up screaming, tears flowing from her eyes, drenched in perspiration.
Zain who had just gulped down a glass of water for sleep was far away from his eyes ran towards the room as he heard her scream.
"Maa, Baba.." Adhira was screaming hysterically pointing towards the blank wall as he walked up to her cot, Syra and Nusrat had came running in too.
"Woh.. Woh.. unhe maar denge. Aap.. aap kuch kijiye naa? Dada ko bhi maar denge.. Unhe bachaa lijiye.." She babbled on hysterically, her hair a mess and her beautiful blue eyes, red rimmed and filled with tears.
Only he knew how it tore him up inside to see her like that. The girl he was in love with was just a faint memory now.
Zain wrapped his arms around her comfortingly as she struggled more.
The more she went violent, the more he held onto her and then, she relaxed into his arms, tears soaking into his kurta, her sobs were heart wrenching.
"Sab theek ho jayega, Allah par bharosa rakho." He spoke up softly, dropping a kiss on her forehead.
Syra covered Adhira gently as somehow the former slept again with much difficulty and then looked at her brother who sat outside in deep thought, apparently shook from all that happened a few minutes ago.
"Usse theek hone mein bohot waqt lagega Zain, aur tumhari mohabbat ko samajhne mein bhi." She sat beside him.
"Iss waqt main apne jazbaaton ke baare mein soch bhi raha hoon Syra. Main bas chahta hoon ki woh uss hadse se baahir aaye, Jo kuch bhi uske saath hua hai woh kissi khaufnaak khwaab se kam nahi hai." Zain rubbed his face, thoughtfully.
"Jaanta hoon, ki ek hi pal mein apne pariwaar ko kho dena, apni poori duniya ujadte huye dekhna woh bhi apni aankhon ke saamne. Main soch bhi nahi sakta, woh kis zehannum se guzri hogi? Main bas usse mehfooz rakhna chahta hoon, khush rakhna chahta hoon." He added, gently.
"Aur apni mohabbat? Uska Kya karoge?" Syra counter questioned him.
Zain chuckled a little at his sister's question, she just won't leave it at that.
"Agar meri qismat mein uski mohabbat hai toh main khushkismat hoon, agar nahi toh yeh iktarfa hi rahega, jaise hamesha se tha." He smiled a little as Syra ruffled his hairs lovingly.
When did her little brother became so mature?
The Next Morning..
She had woken up long back, but Adhira didn't know what to do.
The room, The surroundings she was in were all very familiar for a part of her childhood was spent here too.
Syra came in with a fresh set of clothes, keeping them on the bed.
"Aree wah, tum toh uth bhi gayi? Chalo accha hai, nahaa dho lo aur taiyaar ho jao. Ammi naashte ke liye neeche bulaa rahi hain." She spoke up, cheerfully pulling apart the curtains as the sunlight streamed in.
Adhira gave her a small smile, and Syra felt something snap inside her as those sapphire eyes fell on the her.
Hollow, Empty and that light of life gone from her life.
It was difficult to believe that she was that same girl, she had seen just a month before teasing her.
"Bhook lagi hogi naa? Ammi ne tumhara manpasand halwa banaya hai!" Syra spoke up gently yet lovingly sitting beside her.
"Aapa mujhe bhook nahi hai." Adhira replied meekly.
"Thoda toh khana padega warna theek kaise hogi? Chalo, tum nahaa lo phir main tumhare baal baandh dungi." Syra spoke up lovingly, caressing her forehead.
