Amdavad's favourite daughter and now prime time television star Muskaan Mihani loves coming home.
Mumbai's whirl and busy schedule might keep the perky young thing on her toes for most of her waking hours, but she simply needs an excuse to be in the city where she spent her formative years.
In town for a women's day event, there's an almost wistful note in her voice, as she say she "misses Ahmedabad a lot. I hardly have the time to be back home and there are times when I miss the pulsating night life of CG Road and the yummy roadside Gujarati snacks which I used to love, but, hey, I had to move on to bigger things."
We caught her at a leading city club, chilling out before the event started and she shared vignettes of her life as a television star with us, in between striking perfect poses for our lensman.
Right now, she has a busy life, which includes a daily soap (Dahhej on 9X) and a multi-starrer comedy film. "I enjoy working in the serial as the theme is different and has never been explored before. The character that I play here is the one I relate to the most in my personal life as well," says this lively, fun-loving and jovial actress.
And yes, she's also done a role in Heyy Baby with Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. What has that experience been like? "It was a great experience working with both of them. They made me feel comfortable on the sets. We enjoyed and played games till wee hours in the night. Akshay is down to earth, humble but scary too — he is the biggest prankster, " grins Muskaan.
Her journey in the industry was a mix of both, good and bad. And she has no regrets. One particularly ugly incident that she shares with us is, "When I met Kumar Taurani, he told me to go back home and get married. Mumbai is a different world and not like Ahmedabad. You won't be able to survive here, he said." Not one to hold grudges, Muskaan claims, comments like those encouraged her to try her best and today whenever she has a plum project on hand, the first person, she sends an SMS to is Taurani!
Today, she loves all the adulation and fame that comes with the job. "Here I am getting a chance to play something that I am not and each day I get to play a different character. What more could I have asked for?" she questions.
Muskaan is also a keen interior designer and has even "done the interiors of my home. I have a six-month course in designing to my credit. I am soon going to assist former actor Joy Mukherjee's wife in her projects," she informs. She is also writing a story on the realities of life for a 30-episode serial to be aired soon.
A fitness fanatic, Muskaan carries "a skipping rope and weights" with her "all the time. I think before I eat and I make sure I exercise every day." One thing she can never say 'no' to in life has to be chocolates and home and home made kheer.
And in case eligible Amdavadis were hoping to apply for the role of her real boyfriend, Muskaan says with a cheery wink, "I love Shahid Kapoor, and now that he is single, I don't mind being the 'woman' in his life."
Well, Shahid, hope you read this one! And for the heartbroken men out there, all we can say is better luck next time!
