The Great Whitewash of Anurag Basu

DISCLAIMER: I'm not intending to hurt anyone, but these are my thoughts.

I posted this on the AnuPre AT and thought this summarized my opinion about the character redemption of Anurag Basu.

I'll first talk about the engagement humiliation. Prerna finds out Anurag is getting engaged to Komolika. She runs to his house to see that the guy that she trusted so much is getting engaged without even telling her why he dumped her. At first, Anurag stays silent when Mohini and Komolika are degrading her. She continually asks him why he's doing this. After that, he finally decides to speak up and then BRUTALLY humiliates her. He even stoops down to the level of bringing her late father into the picture. This scenario was Anurag vs. Prerna, or rather Prerna vs. the entire world. She was left to fend for herself by a man who promised to marry her and take care of her for the rest of her life. He promised not only to her, but also to her mother that he would stand by her. Not only that, he slept with her and made her pregnant in the lieu of "saat din mein shaadi". Undoubtedly, Anurag's intentions were good, but I don't think I can forgive him for this act very easily. As a woman myself, Anurag's actions also insulted me, because he insulted her character (EVEN if it was fake) and told the world that Prerna was out to trap rich men. Even if he didn't want to confess everything to Prerna, he could have done a private humiliation or at worst only had family there. But he did it in front of the world, where lots of friends, probably Rajesh's former co-workers, media were present. In my opinion, Anurag's intentions do not justify his actions.

Now coming to the PreVik fiasco, Komolika spikes Prerna and Vikrant's drinks and they go to a room where she has installed a live camera. They are both not in their senses and some of the actions are portrayed to the world as if they are having an affair. Anurag finally speaks up when Komolika is attacking Prerna's character and says that he believes her. This scenario is AnuPre vs. the entire world. He defends her and brings her honor and "izzat" back.

The difference between the two scenarios is what I've bolded - Prerna vs. the entire world or AnuPre vs. the entire world. There is a huge difference between those two situations. In the engagement humiliation, Prerna was left all by herself by a person she loved and trusted. Before anything, Anurag was her friend, and he didn't even respect that relationship. I still can't get the visual out of my head where Prerna was lying on the road outside of BB after the humiliation. On the other hand, now Anurag has grown a spine and defends Prerna so that she doesn't have to hear anything more from society. Both actions did humiliate her. However, I will argue that the first humiliation was more severe, because she had no backing and did not expect Anurag to react the way that he did. In the PreVik fiasco, she did not expect Anurag to defend her, but he still did, for which she was thankful. The second action definitely does not undo the first action, in my opinion. He needs to apologize to her and let her decide whether she wants to come back to him. Most importantly, he should respect that decision.

It's so sad to see the Anurag Basu who was very respectful and mindful of others, to be portrayed as someone who could treat an innocent girl like this for whatever reasons he found it justified.. He started the groundwork for that drama which everyone in the Basu Family followed the suit..

If it was any angry young man character to start with then it could have been accepted excusing him as an emotional fool who acts at the whim of the moment without thinking much.. But but but.. The way Anurag was defined and etched,.. ufff.. I can't see this Anurag Basu the same way and he can never be the same for me like earlier.. And don't think I will ever get him back.. This one is a masalafied version of Anurag who has lost the original charm and beauty that he had imbibed inside him.. 🤔 Whatever fix or cover up they're gonna make for him, it's only gonna be a compromised version hereafter..

I think they can never ever furnish a reason for

1. Anurag humiliating prerna in public . And his silence everytime his mom or nivi or komo humiliated her n even sent her to jail . He wss just a spectator who got a balcony ticket.

2. Anurag not telling prerna the truth of komo and his marriage

3. Prerna forcefully living in bb.

I agree that anurag as a character was not this kind of a person who would give up so easily. At least do "something" about it but zilch..no effort at all from.his side to dafa karo komo and tell prerna the truth . He bloody reacted when soup fell on komos hand but not when prerna got slapped. They degraded him to this level . But i am not surprised bec its ekta..and in ektas shows hero heroine are epitome of dumbness. So anurag will soon fall in the league of ramans and abhimanyus and mihirs and whatever ..he will def apologize but he will never change .

I completely agree and that's why Am not jumping with joy imagining ANU-PRE together after Komo's exit.

I would any day choose Pre to be single than be with Anurag !

I am glad I am not the only one who falls in this category.. Anu has lost his charm for me too.. I feel some strange type of discomfort every time he tries to get close to Pre.. Before anything else happens, they have and they need to heal each other.. He needs to help her mend her broken heart..

She deserves the whole truth.. she deserves an apology..

Pre will forgive him this time without any doubt.. but I think there will come a point where she will just leave him and the day she does that, it will be once and for all..

remember what she said on holi day in the washroom? The day I will leave you, I will not even think twice..

Anurag reacting on soup falling on Komo got me too... Why did he react when he never reacted when so many people were misbehaving with Prerna on so many occasions?

Even if Anurag Basu was an angry young man ITV hero, I still cannot accept the manhandling that he's been doing recently. Even if they have confessed feelings, I want the Anurag Basu back who was conscious of what he did and didn't take advantage of a girl's feelings for him.

prerna is living in basu bari just to take revenge from anurag...but once anurag tells the truth to prerna and the family...prerna will definitely gonna forgive him..self respect gya tel lene...jitna bhi humiliate kiya anurag ne use sab ek min mein sab gayab...yahi hoga..hamesha se yahi hota aya hai..😛

Exactly! And that's where the makers are going wrong. In today's time, Lolipops and chemistry is not more important than trust and self respect.

I love Parica but honestly I wouldn't like Prerna to go back to Anurag. And on top of it, they are getting Bajaj too, to add to this mess.

Why should a woman need a man always to support her? I would want a Prerna, who focuses on her career, becomes a single mother and takes care of herself and her family, instead of going through so much humiliation .

I genuinely want to ask all Anu-Pre fans, Is good intentions enough? This relationship has become so toxic, that I would actually want them to be separated!
