Sufiyana Pyaar Mera ~ My musings 26.4.19 To speak up or hold one’s peace?
One important life skill promoted in recent times is to be verbally assertive. To let others know what views one holds. It’s either to show agreement, or dissensionwith the opposing parties stance. It maybe seen as standing up for what one believes is right or wrong. It can be alsoseen as whether one looks for one’s own vested interests or for the widerinterests of others.
With Zaroon it’s about the passing of time, and making prompt use of it. It’s about theretrieval of his father Mamoon’s purpose of life to gain lasting respectabilitythat wealth alone cannot buy but passed on Sufiancestrycascaded down to his household can. It’s also about going for his personal dream of marrying the girl Sultanat ,he has selected for himself.
It’s like Zaroon aspires rather desperately to come clean with Sultanatabout allhis past and present affiliations. I found him dead honest. As one is, when one feels a closebonding with another person. He is not one to hold his piece back and end uphard done by! Loved how he confesses he may be Canadian by residency , but deepdown he is the son of his of roots! So right in the pool of water, after he lay’s bare his soul to Sultanat, the man who knows his interests!I suspect, he already assumes, what more canSultanat ask for? That she has no reason to turn him down! Sultanat on theother hand, is she studying so to speak his self professed good values? Interesting, but he has just turned down her cousin, in place of her.
.Her mother’s tipis to maintain silence which is golden at this moment in time . To hold one’s peace shows one’s perseverance also! rather than one's helpless conformity. Sultanat sees that for Kainat her comfort at this point in time, comes especially from the scriptures. Kainat ‘s mother thinks aloud, and reminds her daughter, that ultimate judgment about life’s trials and tribulations one faces lie before god’s court. He is the ultimate judge who commands and dispenses fair justice.
. The grand robe of cascaded title and inherited legacy, assured for Zaroon‘s shoulders, is unceremoniously removed by Mainjaan. Due to Zaroon ‘s evident unreliability and incapability.. of stepping into Mainjaan’s reputed shoes.
It was a poignant scene set before the family and community court. an interestingexchange of views between,a revered ,faith scholar ,and a young believer brought up with diverse traditions andcultural needs. It’s a tolerant speaking aloud of differing views belonging to two generations. The old and new age. The one thing that unites Zaroon and Mainjaan is their faith. It's interesting to observe where Zaroon asserts his rights as a man regards choosing his bride within his faith. Mamoon as his father, talks hard about Zaroon’s duty as being the compliant obedient son, who dares to argue with the elders of the family.
I loved the manner in which Mainjaan gives Zaroon the permission to speak his mind before all family members. Both speak their minds aloud and come clean before all to erase all misconceptions housing in the minds of troublemakers within all families.
. He refreshes all present family, that Zaroon was a consideration, but only in the wake of Zaroon marrying Kainat! This clearly opens another option for Zaroon , that he can fix things if he weds Sultanat , which he wants in the first place.
.We have the oldest biddy of the family losing a battle with her good son Nadeem. His folly lies in showing contentment in the little he has, in terms of wealth and power within Mainjaan’s family. Well, the old Dadi continues to try her manipulative hand at her grandson, Hamza. This lad is young and malleable. She incites him to play the faith card, and continue to create divisions between Zaroon and Kainat ,so Hamza can eventually marry Kainat and grab the seat of the family ancestry.
Mind you,Mainjaan is also the older generation who alongside the spiritual needs of his people, means well for his family. Mamoon’s family he sees as the lost sheep of his Sufi dynasty. Links were severed between his brother and him due to his brother opting to settle abroad.nebefitting manner he saw was to set up an alliance between the fatherless Kainat and Mamoon’s son Zaroon. Only plans have turned asunder. Zaroon has spoken about his dissension. How will Mainjaan, a devout defender of his faith, find a just solution to the existing issue? Is it best to talk it out, with all parties concerned or to hold one’s peace till the opportune moment?
I loved how Mainjaan, maintains his faith wisdom and allows Zaroon to express his views. Kainat in the previous episode removes her spectacles as she looks at her reflection in the mirror. Perhaps she poses a question before herself; are they a need to repair her vision? Or does she hide behind them? Sultanat , on the other hand prays in earnest about god’s blessed assurance in keeping their families together. She shows concern at Zaroon’s mindset. In the pool, the manner in which Sultanat jerks her hands free out of Zaroon’s tender clasp, says it all! The last thing she wants is to create an impediment in the life of a widow and a fatherless girl’s lives. Sultanat may be out going, but she has her principles ,and I reckon she certainly has the fear of god in her.. great episode, enough to keep us all going!
If conflict makes the show going ,then I would say there is no dearth of tension. Maanjaan, dear soul, faces inclement disruption. The golden boy says no. No prayers are offered at the dargah.. sadly the doors are locked. Will patience upon god’s just will set, bruised souls free? Those of steadfast faith will have to wait, to see
