why is this always an issue in indian serials? okay fine, they can portray the couple of greedy, egotistic rich characters. and it's good that they show some good ones too. but why is there always a middle class protagonist that always raises fingers at "rich people" and says dialogues such as "you people don't understand this" and "you people" that and "we people." they themselves see such bad characters among "their" class, here even aastha has seen the mistakes are siblings have made. so why is it so hard for her to conceive that rich ppl can also make mistakes. more importantly why is she blind to her siblings and people of her class' standing making mistakes? if she sees this then why does she still have some rosy idealistic image of "her" people. it's not about class. it's about character.

and i think people of her class are knowledgeable and practical to understand this. if they are of that class, it's probably more likely that they're more religious, just a correlation, and if that's the case, then they should have more faith in people. not blind faith of course. but faith.

and the other thing is that thru these serials, "making money" is always portrayed as a bad thing. it's like $ is the bad guy. well, it's the characters that are the bad guys not the $. even hindu scriptures and vedantic ideals makes "artha" a part of life. it is the duty of a householder to earn money. and money has power to do some good. of course that $ making shouldn't take let us stray from good and moral living or our dharma. but there's no reason to encourage the stigma of making $ as a bad thing.

could it also be a ploy by the rich and politically powerful? b/c once you encourage ppl to believe in the above, it leaves the rest of the $ making into their hands, or in other words, it opens up more opportunities for them. lol. just something to think about.

in any case, these are some important issues to discuss. might as well get some intellectual discussion out of watching indian soaps.

I belive that being good or bad doesn't effect by if your rich or poor .It's who u r , That is just a lebal we as human give one another ,mistakes can happen from anyone no matter if u r rich or poor ,It all human mentality .there r good people in the world despite if they r rich or poor.so judging someone being good or bad by if they r rich or poor i personally think that is wrong.(Like they say never judge a book by it's cover)

i agree...i mean for example shubh is the total opposite of his brother...despite being rich he understands others and actually knows what it feels like to be in aastha's position and is willing to change himself back to radheshyam...

poor people have a mentality that rich people are selfish and don't care about others, which rich people always feel that the poor are after their money

that is not the situation all the time, that's why you must understand others and give them a chance

yep, great points everyone!

and good thing to point out. i don't think we seen any serials where the guy is poor and the girl is rich. says something doesn't it? like the guy won't "stoop low" well if that's the case then why does the girl have to "reach up?"

very interesting point. there is one example where the opposite is true, in har parivaar ki kahani (zee tv with sachin shroff as gyan and his girl lead character's name which is sidhi). but notice that in this sole example, there are millions of problems. why does the girl always have to compromise? (in this story, sidhi is wrong...but in general).

ya same i noticed that too and that is really sad like even in banon mein teri dulhan the guy was rich and the girl was poor...and there was one villion in the house....lol...thts not good like they should awitch it up a little up...it gets a little boring after a while but anyways thts why there called dramasi hopw that aastha doesn't act really chaep like mahi did with shabd n his family like when they do somethin she acts all weird and does it her way...like i don't think anyone can't change so they shouls show that she learns that she is rich and acts like one so there are no problems and she can proove her bhabbi wrong in calling her cheap...lol....aastha has soo many responsiblities

Astha is a girl who lives in her own world which according to her is the best .She still has to come out of her narrow zone (middle class is the best).
When comes to her own siblings and their wrong doings she was hardly seen confronting like she did with Shubh but always protecting them. It's easy to point others mistake than owns .
Toooo good such are protagonists of Hindi serials ( can't be digested )Positive all the way.
Saksham is very proudy but when comes his approach towards Astha ,it's not one way.He harboured all the ill will just because of Vinay When Astha tried to protect him.He didn't go to Shilpa with a modelling assignment but Astha in trying to save her sister's image from her parents made him her enemy. There is nothing of this in the real world .These serials just portray extremes ,nowhere in between quite artificial. It;s better see them as a past time thing keeping away all the brains .

I disagree. Why do some serials work in some places and others don't? Why are saas-bahu serials and similar stories like kasturi/baabul ka aangan, etc popular? because as the creatives have said repeatedly "people connect with them." Well, if that's the case, then they'll also take away things from the serial. And certains ideas will be reinforced and stereotypes will be perpetuated. Perhaps the point is to show extremes so that people can easily pick out the right from wrong, who knows. But if it does the former, reinforce old ideas, which actually they do by also showing negatives of each class, then it's something to seriously consider and discuss.

have you guys watched yahaan ke hum sikander on zee next? now that's a show to watch. brilliant performances by the character ravi and his family, especially mom. but really this show deals with real life issues, issues that aren't black and white, but grey. But it really allows for the audience to think through and understand how to think in these and similar types of situations. To be aware and to think rationally but to also follow your gut and righteous conscious, to trust family and good friends. And to be self-aware as well. i can rave about this show for hours.

There may be few but most of them are far from reality.People connect them ,it;s just an excuse .They are popular just because thes are the easiest and the cheapest mode of entertainment through out the country. Can you tell me what message do you get from shows which portray multiple marriages ,saas -bahu friction etc.
