Given Karan's penchant for candyfloss movies and gorgeous sets, have no great expectations from him, he could easily mess them up as black and white; no one could know the difference, since not many may have read up on them. Similar to how SLB did in Padmavat, but in that case Khilji was a well-known bad character.

I have read Aurangzeb's and Dara's story, wherein both characters were not black and white (neither of them started out all bad or all good) but there were a series of incidents, ShahJahan as the father was to blame as well for how history played out. Ranveer would have played it as Khilji part two, so am somehow hopeful that Vicky might do full justice to his character; but again he will be limited by the script given to him.

@bold Completely agree! But it's not just Karan who'll most probably portray them them as black and white, this is the thought process of 99.9% filmmakers in India. When was the last time we saw a character who had just grey shades and was not completely black?

I would love to be pleasantly surprised but that's probably not gonna happen. 😆

Khilji's portrayal was also highly criticised by historians. Even his portrayal was not correct in Padmaavat.

yes, SLB's Padmavat was horrible, wasn't a huge fan of BM either for his historical inaccuracies. You are right, modern day filmmakers do not know a thing about making historical movies, at least in bollywood. Almost all of them include an item song in some way shape or form too.

There is no whitewashing of cruel kings and invaders. Period.
Khilji was criticised only by one community. Not by historians.

We all know who like to glorify invaders and most hated, cruel kings and queens in India due to certain communal political agenda.

I only have brief view of arengazeb, not read any novel about arengazeb aur dara shekho. But I have a clue about kjos interpretation. The way he treats subject n that's not the way historical subjects r treated.
As far as I know arengazeb wanted to bring in Islamic law. N maugals were secular. Akber married jodah, there was temple in her room. When such people decide to be " I will b religious from tomo, all r on wrong path, I will rectify it " . They tend towards extremism. Coz nothing happens over night n nothing can b ecompalised through tyrany.
