PadMan's Japan Box Office Collection: Akshay Kumar Movie Dominates Market, Earns Rs 4.49 Crore

PadMan, which was received well at home, has managed to do well in Japan too. The movie, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in lead roles, was inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, who introduced low-cost sanitary pads. While it did not get the desired results in China when it was released, it has managed to stay on top of the box office in Japan where it has earned a total of Rs 4.49 crore.

The movie, which was released on February 9, 2018 and was directed and written by R Balki, is currently running in 18 locations and is in its sixth week. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the numbers out.

PadMan was created to reach a broad audience and bring about awareness and eradicate prevalent superstitions in India surrounding sanitary pads. The movie came about after actor-author Twinkle Khanna, Akshay's wife, decided to take her story on Muruganantham's persistence and determination to the big screen. Twinkle, who also serves as a producer on the film, said she was drawn to the project due to its relevant yet underrated subject about menstruation.

I cannot understand the way Indian movies release SO LATE in other countries !😕

I mean.. just have the subtitles ready for JUST IN CASE... why allow copies and such to innundate markets and eat from your potential BO( like China has huge problem with illegal copies) then release movie .. ONE YEAR LATER?

They do this a lot with a lot of foreign movies in China... At the same time, other movies (see TOH recently) release Immediately after releasing in India.

SO I don't ' 'get ' the criteria. Who decides WHICH movie can be allowed in at WHAT DATE?

Indian Film industry should fight for a more broad representation in abroad markets... and a more diverse/open market in CHina.. with IMMEDIATE release for their titles..to avoid piracy.

As for PadMan I hope they do great bizz in Japan.

I think it sometimes has to do with some countries not releasing much movies from abroad. They must have quotas and so it takes time for distributors to choose which movie is more deserving of being released, with which movie they'll be able to make a margin...

2018 superhit movie Padman release in Japan on 7th December 2018 and performed well at the Japanese Box Office.

PadMan is a success story in Japan.

Japan is not the traditional market for Indian films, hence the BO performance of Indian films is not in limelight.
