His name rings a bell. Faintly though. And when you see him, you can place him better. Because you have watched Sony TV's high-profile reality show,
Indian Idol. With the curtains down on
Indian Idol, one of the highly rated contestants Amit Tandon has swerved his career line into acting. On Sony TV itself, he features in Ektaa Kapoor's latest serial on the channel
Kaisa Ye Pyaar Hai as Prithvi. Unlike the typical Ektaa story of a family saga, this one is directed more towards the young viewers. The story is of a pop icon Angad and a small town girl Kripa. While Kripa is in love with Angad, it is Angad's family that dislikes Kripa. In enters Amit as Prithvi offering his selfless friendship and love to her.
"Prithvi is in love with Kripa, knowing that she loves Angad. But his love for her is different and he never persuades her to stop thinking of Angad. He is Kripa's best friend and is her formidable all weather support system. The situation is similar to the movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai," explains an excited Amit. (
Yeah right, liar liar pants on fire) "After my entry into it, it has become a love triangle," he tunes you into the serial's storyline. When
Indian Idol was on, Amit recollects, he was told by music director and the show's judge Anu Malikhe is the right face for modelling and acting.
(How rude, hate Anu Malik) "Anuji told me in today's scenario, I should establish myself first as an actor and then can try singing as well. Though I was not following his instructions so consciously, it just happened that you will know me as an actor first and then as a singer one day," says Amit. But now when the talent hunt is over and India has its 'first idol' in Abhijeet Sawant, is Amit happy with the results? "In a way, I am satisfied. I believe Amit Sana was an equally deserving candidate but Abhijeet won because he was more presentable," maintains this
Indian Idol contestant who also got considerable viewer interest pushing him up to the top ten list.
Singer still And then his ratings started to topple. "I think my choice of songs was wrong. Secondly, audience could not relate to me beyond a point," Amit gets confessional. Coming back to his new role, he says, " The unique thing about Prithvi is, he is confident, stylish and smart and yet very down-to-earth. He is always there whenever Kripa needs him." No matter what roles he plays later, at the end of the day, this actor is determined to be a singer.
(Yeah right) "I still have to prove Anuji wrong," concludes Amit.
