I have watched Naayak nth number of times and still do not understand how it was a box office failure. What a movie , and what a concept . Truly a movie ahead of its times.

lack of face value
rani was a struggling actor then

and anil kapoor has mostly been a flop as a lead actor since late 90s itself

from 2000s to now..has this guy even given a single hit without a bankable heroine as a solo lead? numerous flops and he continues till date with fanny khan etc..one of the most overrated stars EVER

but this movie had such a good story. everybody was spot on. paresh rawal reminded me a little of Narad muni. It was such a bankable movie. If it would have released today , it would have earned a lot of money.I liked anil in parinda. Though nana patekar shined in that. the songs also were so excellently choreographed.

No offense to fans of the movie

Heard it's a south remake and was a huge hit there

I loved it and I probably watched it like 5 times. My parents especially my dad loves it a lot more. It's a cult film that later became a hit on satellite TV.

Of course it isn't possible in real life just like Shankar's Anniyan, but people love such fantasies of getting rid of the corrupt and them being taught a lesson.

It had amazing songs too. A R Rahman, so it's obvious I suppose.

Probably because it wasn't promoted well or didn't have big stars, it didn't find many takers.

I have watched it so many times. It's one of my dad's most favourite movies. He watches it everytime when it's on TV. Paresh Rawal & Amrish Puri were amazing in the movie.

I agree with Cougartown. It seems Anil Kapoor was a flop actor. His only hits are with bigger female superstars like Sridevi, Madhuri..
Because Nayak is a good film and yet people couldnt stand his mug I'm guessing. And it was a south remake so most people had already seen the other one I suppose.

That Amrish Puri live interview is my favourite bit of the film. So much like the real life Narendra Modi Karan Thapar interview 😆
