Certainly you have to categorize Shahid in a different league from Nawazuddin and Irrfan Khan. No wonder all of them are good actors, but Shahid has a huge fan following than rest of the two actors. Coz of which today he has lots of followers in Twitter and Instagram.

And as Shahid debuted a few years earlier than Ranbir, and Ranveer debuted way later on, hence Shahid is often casted out from their league too.

He could be a star like SRK if he would be a little more cautious about his script choice. But still I am his huge fan and appreciate his hard work because not for a moment Shahid decided to give up, because if he would be given up, then surely he would fade away like Fardeen Khan, Vivek Oberoi. But he never really lost hope.

Shahid always had fluctuations in his movie's Box Office collections since ever he has debuted with his hit movie Ishq Vishq. After then for a long time he kept giving average movies, in between gave a blockbuster Vivah. But after then audience noticed something simply different in him in Jab We Met, still on the year Kareena bagged all the awards while Shahid was being nominated. Post-breakup with Kareena was a huge turning point for him as well. Somehow the breakup made him into another Shahid which I think we wouldn't be able to see if he wouldn't be apart from Kareena, coz earlier he used to be on the news most of the time for their affair but after then he started to get better roles in the better productions (Thanks to his Jab We Met Performance).

Kismat Konnection was not a hit but it's not a flop either. He was massively appreciated for his acting there. After then Shahid Surprised us with Kaminey through his double role...his performance for both the roles were fantastic there. Then again he came with average or flop movies in between (Badmaash Company and Mausam). After then again he gave an awesome movie with his awesome performance, I talking about Haider, for which he got Filmfare best actor award in 2015. Then later on for Udta Punjab he got Filmfare best Actor Critics award in 2017. In between certainly he did some movies like R...Rajkumar, Phata Poster Nikla Hero, Shaandaar from which we audience had high expectations, as as that didn't meet so often people end up underrate him. The only 100 crore movie that Shahid has is Padmaavat till date but unfortunately he didn't have much scope there as the other two leads took most of the credits (can't blame either of the actors, coz it was all Bhansali behind this).

Anyways, no matter whether Shahid's movie is a hit or flop, no matter whether you would like to call him a superstar or a star, one thing is sure that Shahid's acting was and is always appreciated. He is dedicated to his work and definitely he is not among the one to give up so soon! That's what make him unique than any other actors out there.

He was what RK, RS, Varun are today. People expected him to be the future superstar, and were expecting it even when the "post-RK" stars started making waves.

Don't forget that Aditya Chopra once told that Vivek had the potential to be the next SRK but he ruined it with his own arrogance. People may blame Salman for ruining his career, but actually it was Vivek himself who ruined it all, coz he still had scopes but he never could utilize it well.

On the other hand Shahid still has his scopes and he still hasn't stopped surprising the audience. Still he has a long way to go. At least he has fluctuations rather than downfall only.

And I believe Shahid will make a good comeback with Kabir Singh once again.

I don't think anyone from them stopped trying. Fardeen, Vivek, Zayed etc fizzled out because they stopped getting opportunities as they failed. Shahid didn't fail, he got a fanbase and became a bankable star. He proved that he can a carry a film on his shoulders, that's why he still gets solo-lead projects.
