Ugh! Drake is overrated as f**k. He has built a career out of pretending to be the "nice" rapper while in reality, he is the worst misogynist of the lot.

Kanye is a disappointment. There are moments when I feel bad for him because he clearly has mental health issues. So talented. But such a waste of space. Human shit stain. That's what he is. I've hated him since the day he interrupted TayTay. But now everyone is coming around.

The Nicki-Cardi spat is most tragic. I don't mind their support of problematic men. Rap/Hip-Hop is not an easy space for women. What gets me is their beef with each other. Two women somehow make it to the top in a highly misogynistic genre and instead of supporting each other they start sniping and turning into the rap beef stereotypes.

This is why Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah are highly underrated. We don't deserve them. They are real queens.

Mainstream rap in the USA is shite now barring maybe Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. They lost the plot and forgot where they came from. They started playing into what white people thought was cool and edgy about rap - singing about booty, shawty, drugs and cars. They completely forgot why NWA, Tupac and the likes started rapping in the first place.

Which is why the underground rap scenes like the one in gully boy are the real deal. Sure its not as refined and polished as you get from a studio album. But its people rapping their emotions, letting out whats on their mind, not conforming to what some studio executives think will sell.

Natalie Portman is better than most mainstream rappers IMO. She gets into the skin of the character. And even though its a parody - she's lashing out against all the expectations of list A female celebrities - in some ways its as raw as you can get.

You defending Mainstream Rap and giving props to my boys😭😭😆

I will only quote Ava DuVernay which sums up Rap for me, i love it while acknowledging that it is problematic

I liked Veer's rap because he is representing a section of desi folks which are real, their struggles and basically a culture which we the privileged folks have no clue. Be it the language, use of words, the problematic nature , the anger, aggression is part of a culture that we need to acknowledge and understand without dismissing me, it will be ignorant and as unwise as whites dismissing rap culture as nothing but noise.

It definitely is tough for women of color, namely black women because the genre is so intrinsic in their culture. You can't ignore it.

Btw, did you see Bodied? I know Eminem produced it. I hear it addresses both the problems in rap + problems with woke culture - ultimately raising more questions than answers.

I am glad this film is being made. Despite being from Bombay, I was completely unaware of this underground rap scene. The issues and challenges in the slums/chawls of Kurla, Govandi, Dharavi are no different from the ghettoes in the USA. I know people were very offended at Ranveer's colorful tweet - but IMO a kid from these areas would probably rap like that.

So far the trailer and promos have been tame for rap. I wonder if the makers intentionally decided to tone it down considering Indian audiences.

Good casting though. I think Ranveer is the only current star who could bring his fanbase to come and care about a gully boy and willing to take the risk. Ranbir is a great actor - but he is too clean cut and safe (and usually I like him more). But Ranveer is the right fit here and is doing it great justice so far.

I'm kind of new to the hip-hop world, I came to know about it when I moved to Canada about 2 years ago, so you can guess😆
But what I know is that most of the current rappers are commercial rappers, they don't care about the actual art. Even with ghostwriters, they can't deliver.
I remember how Remy Ma killed Nicki with shether and Nicki answered with that dull No frauds that too featuring Drake and Wayne

I just realized Taimur has a new single. Or rather Timur Yusinov aka Timati (who I often confuse with Timbuktu)

Celebs in Hollywood,i noticed, tend to do vocal exercises,at least they are aware of it, even if they do not sing. Someone like Nathalie I am sure knows about them and practice on her voice.
Ranveer has rapped before...I didn't like it much.
Original desi rapper is BABA Sehgal...i did like his rap as a kid.😆
I do like Hard Kaur.

Can i give a shout out to M.I.A?😳 She is good, not indian-but still feels good to have a female kick ass brown rapper out there!

Rap is awful now😆 Courtesy-mumble rappers.
Cardi even said she does it for the money.
Eminem still got his game tho😎

ANDY SAMBERG IS EVERYTHING!!!❤️
I love brookyln nine-nine! He is hilarious. Even on SNL.

Ps. I don't think there was any need to put her as a harvard grad😆
