Just finished watching Dhadak and I was curious about the ending in comparison to Sairat. The movie itself is very different and similar to Sairat but I still don't know how I feel about the ending to Dhadak.
So I'm gonna get into some spoilers to explain my views.
In Dhadak, Parthavi's brother and uncles visit and bring gifts. When Madhu and her son come home, she goes down the street to get some sweets. As she comes back, Madhu and her son's bodies are dropped from the roof to the ground before her. We see her in shock with a crowd of people behind her and the film then ends with a statistic on honor killing.
When I saw the ending, I don't know why but it came across as more abrupt. Like it just kinda happened. And I still don't understand why they decided to change it to have the girl live and the son die instead. Like what was the purpose of that?
Sairat's ending is very haunting. The son comes back into his home to see his parents slaughtered. He cries and crawls out of the house and the last thing we see are his footprints in his parents' blood. And throughout the scene, there's no music or sound, just pure silence, which amplifies the sheer terror of what has happened. The ending here is tragic and really demonstrates just how horrific these honor killing crimes are by showing rather than telling. The statistic that came up in Dhadak's ending felt sorta like an after thought and because of which I didn't feel the same kind of effect from Dhadak's ending in comparison to Sairat's ending.
What do you all think? Do you think there may be a reason behind the different ending in Dhadak?
