Just finished watching Dhadak and I was curious about the ending in comparison to Sairat. The movie itself is very different and similar to Sairat but I still don't know how I feel about the ending to Dhadak.

So I'm gonna get into some spoilers to explain my views.

In Dhadak, Parthavi's brother and uncles visit and bring gifts. When Madhu and her son come home, she goes down the street to get some sweets. As she comes back, Madhu and her son's bodies are dropped from the roof to the ground before her. We see her in shock with a crowd of people behind her and the film then ends with a statistic on honor killing.

When I saw the ending, I don't know why but it came across as more abrupt. Like it just kinda happened. And I still don't understand why they decided to change it to have the girl live and the son die instead. Like what was the purpose of that?

Sairat's ending is very haunting. The son comes back into his home to see his parents slaughtered. He cries and crawls out of the house and the last thing we see are his footprints in his parents' blood. And throughout the scene, there's no music or sound, just pure silence, which amplifies the sheer terror of what has happened. The ending here is tragic and really demonstrates just how horrific these honor killing crimes are by showing rather than telling. The statistic that came up in Dhadak's ending felt sorta like an after thought and because of which I didn't feel the same kind of effect from Dhadak's ending in comparison to Sairat's ending.

What do you all think? Do you think there may be a reason behind the different ending in Dhadak?

I like Dhadak's ending... it was much more impactful because they ended the sign of their love, their child.

I definitely preferred sairat's ending a lot more. I completely agree with your viewpoint . It did induce the true horror of what actually happened, which was missing in dadhak.

I preferred Sairat's ending
A child orphaned is more tragic than losing your husband and son I feel as the son has his future ahead but no family no relatives. Parthavi at least got happy moments with her husband, the orphan had his whole life ahead of him. Now nobofy to give him a future

They kept the suspense tell the very end in Sairat. In Dhadak everything happens so abruptly. The child's tears were so much more powerful than Janhvi trying to give shocked (or whatever) expressions.

The message at the end. It was something similar to voiceover at the end of heroine. You only need to do that when you feel the need to spoon feed the audience on what to take away from the film. If your film is affective the audience will take away what it needs to from the story telling itself. It's not suppose to be pointed out so directly.

No idea why they changed it... But I agree that sairaats's ending is much more haunting... To think of a toddler with no one to look after...

I haven't watched Sairaat or Dhadak and neither I'm interested😆, but I think that Kjo changed the ending at the last moment to create sympathy for Jhanvi's character, and show a parallel between her onscreen character and her real life, as she also lost her mother recently.

I watched the ending of Sairaat on YouTube and it is so impactful. It gives you heartache to see the little boy crying and running out of the house. The little kid does not even know what happened. The tragedy hits you real hard. Just the ending has so much impact. Very well executed scene.

Dhadak ending is so abrupt and haphazard. It's like out of flow with the narrative. Suddenly the thumping of bodies and its over. Jhanvi's expressions are very poor here. In an attempt to make the ending different, the makers messed it up.

Sairat ending was so scary
