How significant are Bollywood actors in the world?

I assume that we all have our own lives to lead in the world. Most of us wake up in the morning because we have to feed ourselves or attended uni or whatever one is doing to spend time as long as one lives. We all have our chores, errands, stresses, boredom, solitary moments and midst the real life crisis, we manage to sneak in to this alternate universe called India forums just to pass comments, judgements, opinions and so on.
However, another parallel universe called Bollywood that seems to exist in the real realm that is flooded with money(how hard people today work to earn) that claims to entertain people but in reality happens to consider itself pompous enough to make the entire world revolve around just itself. Bollywood is being projected as some out of the world fantasy-reality conundrum that people who are just the face of it seem to hog away all the attention of the world. Or may I say that people give them all the attention for them to ride on it? So really tell me if these actors really need so much discussion on a virtual platform - their marriage, looks, affairs and every trivial detail need so much attention and time from people who apparently have a life? Would people stop living vicariously through the lives of these actors if there was dignity of labour in the world where acting and selling burgers weighed equally? I'ts astonishing to see people not only make very personal comments on these actors but give them so much importance as if their entire life depends on them. Its always nice to enjoy a movie, gush over a character, watch it several times and move on the next one. But seeing people getting stuck on the personal life of an actor and cutting a Demi-god figure of them or hating them where ironically the actor doesn't even contribute to the life of the person no way just seems ridiculous.

So in the universe filled with thousands of galaxies and a very tiny planet called earth ... Do these tiny little humans called Bollywood actors who show up on screen a few times and enjoy being showcased as kings, queens and divas actually significant? Or do people really need a reality check or counselling for throwing themselves into the personal lives of these insignificant actors who don't pay their rent, food, clothes?

Fanatics exist in every place and there are people who spend most of their earnings on these celebs who don't usually even acknowledge them. I just can't understand how people can endlessly vote for these celebs to win any dance competition or BB and spend so much hard-earned money. Most of them are kids who are studying.

I am not even talking about those who bash, give death-threats and abuse people who just say a word against their celebs as I have stopped considering them as humans

Discussing these celebs is no harm as they entertain us in their movies and this is an entertainment forum. We can't always discuss politics in our life and online too.

Lovely topic to be discussed on
I do agree that its alright to discuss/speculate on their personal lifes, their outfits and etc as indeed although hard to deny but as humans we have a tendency to discuss people (even if its in daily life about friends, colleagues, relatives)

I for one indulge in this myself as one of my pastime as I've always been intrigued by the fashion sometimes taking inspiration of certain style or outifits and also just watching interviews as I love to hear their ideas or though process. And the industry I feel seems a lot more close knit when compared to Hollywood. Interviews always seem more personal in getting to know the actor and also only in Bollywood do interviews actually involve the non-filmy members at times. Definitely not Hollywood.

Hence maybe this gives fans people the sense that they know the actor well and feel close to them creating this weird defensive nature

Of course the line has to be drawn to an extend where its healthy discussion and not obsession. What happens most of the time is the views are very extremist. Fans are not ready to accept the fact their favourite actor isn't perfect and they are humans too.
Even they are allowed to have vices and err like all of us do. Just because their mistakes are in the spotlight we get to know of them.
We can like them but not trying to defend or force other people to like them as well. Everyone is an entitled to an opinion.

I guess everyone never really realized the extend of craziness to which we indulge in Bollywood related news, people till the existenceof the internet and hence forums and twitter and fandoms.

Who is significant then?

IF is also just a flake on internet, not important at all. So are discussions here. Koi policy formation thodi na ho rahi hai. We have faltu time so we waste it here. Who comes on IF or discuss about others when they are busy in offices or life.

@Padfoot_Prongs, that is what I was trying to say. Nobody is significant in the universe. We are just significant in our own lives and people around us. But delusion makes people divas and celebrities.

Coming to IF, discussing lame stuff, trolling, bantering can sometimes be a way to unwind for busy people. Not all people who come here are vella. But getting too personal is what is uncalled for. It can be quite toxic and hard on the mind.

I dunno about others, but i come here to discuss celebs for fun and whenever im taking a break from studying. I know that when i get busy in my own life n job, i wont really give a damn to any of these actors, RK included. Actually, i still dont give a damn about RK's personal life. I just like seeing him on my tv/computer/mobile screen. It gives me happiness to see him dance or act. Other than that, who he hangs out with, who he sleeps with, or who he dates is not my concern at all.

But yes, im guilty of shipping some celebs, actually still am. But then again, i know its probably just coz i have some free time on my hands. All i can say is, if it gives u happiness and it doesn't harm u emotionally or psychologically, its perfectly okay. As far as BW celebs go, its a certain curiosity about them that draws us to them. Like if i see an actor onscreen, i wonder how he would be irl. Its true for all public figures. I don't think just actors.

Ppl should just know where to draw the line n not be obsessed. If u are choosing discussing celebs over a meeting with friends/family, then there is definitely a problem. If u feel the need to namecall strangers or troll a celeb u hate by abusing, then there is 100% a problem. Then its no longer just fangirling, its obsession which can be dangerous. And such ppl more often than not, are looking for something to fixate their emotions on, like filling a void in their lives. And they have full potential to go overboard.

I dont know about others but I come here because I like to get into people's heads and see what they're thinking and stuff. In real life no one's got that much time to discuss things. Like even with friends one just spends time and someone may say something and then they do other things. But here people get really deep into it and then they can post something and still carry it on when they've time the next day. IRL that is not possible and not done.

Like I'm only half present on earth at any given time anyway so I dont always register things the way other humans beings do. And then I also tend to think I'm the only one correct which I'm also. 😆 But its nice to get other viewpoints and then you wonder what's really significant in this world.
But point is that Indians in general know only BW and cricket. Like I may want to discuss the finer points of sailing but for that I will have to go to some specialised forums which arent even all that active and then there is no personal connect.
And its often said that Indians are crazy about cricket and BW only so there's that. I've read up on some internationals CEOs say that Indians are so servile and hero worshippers. Like you can even see with the scapegoat Sundar Pichai. I hope that will change one day.

So what I want to say is that I like to be here because it's a small forum. If I go on reddit then there are like millions of users and I'll get lost somewhere. But here there are some hundreds I think and with multiple MIDs who knows maybe there're only 40 discussing with themselves. 😆
So I sort of know some users and what they think and things like that and why they like particular things and their likes/dislikes/personalities like they're conformists or not. And then there's another think I like to do here which I dont want to disclose and anyway I may be deluding myself into thinking I am able to do that.

So many "I"s. Haha...But yes more than BW actors I'm interested in their fans.

What baffles me the most is that people send gifts to these celebs. 😲 I watched some tv actors' segments where they open gifts sent by fans-purses, dresses etc. And was legit shocked. Like whoever even thought of doing this?

And about the leading question-how significant they're in the world. Well they're certainly significant in India because of their fame...crores of Indians know them and they'vve connections. They know ministers who shape policy that will impact Indians' lives.
And media gives them a platform and also people who subconsciously have appropriated them as their own children...you know whatever their favourite says...no matter how wrong...they'll defend it...so they're also paid heavy money to front ad campaigns for products and increasingly social engineering and political campaigns.

That's why an actress will do photoshoots with Rohingyas so that India may be pressurised to amend its internal security and citizenship policy as foreign countries see fit. Of course the govts dont need to listen but at the end of the day its all a ploy after all and they themselves want the same. The only people being played is the Indian public.

TV fans are more connected to their fav & far more defensive about them. They receive gifts all the time. Nothing shocking. They also work hard & entertain ppl
