Chapter 1
(A short love story for the lovely people who wished me on my birthday including my silent readers on insta,thank you guys! Enjoy)
Niece of Kanta and Jeevan sharma,20 year old Mahek sharma moved from to Delhi to Mumbai in search of a job. She had so much burden on her shoulders. Mohit,her cousin was in college and depended on Mahek for his expenses and fees. Mahek had also taken responsibility of household expenses as Jeevan was out of work because of health issues. Delhi didn't have what she was looking for. Her pay was not enough to meet every need and demand of her family. To keep her family going,she decided to move to Mumbai and find a decent paying job. She arrived in Mumbai and took a cab to her newly rented flat. The flat was furnished,thank Goodness! The cab driver helped her to carry the luggage inside. "Thank you bhaiya!'' She paid the driver and he left. A girl her age was watching Mahek since she moved to the flat. "She's the one!'' The girl murmured to herself. The girl liked her at once and wanted to meet her so she tapped on her door. "Who is it?'' Asked Mahek from inside. "It's me your neighbour!'' Mahek opened the door to find a beautiful girl around her age standing there with sweets in her hand. "Hi I'm Saya! Welcome to the neighbourhood.'' Saya handed the box of sweets to her. "Thats so sweet of you! Thank you saya! I'm Mahek..please come inside.'' From that day they became friends. "How long have you been staying here?'' Asked Mahek one day. "It's one year now. I was very lonely..now that you are here I have a friend whom I can talk to.'' Mahek smiled. "I would be alone too if you weren't here.'' "I say it's the fate that made us cross each other's path.'' Saying that saya handed her a newspaper. "Read this,Shaurya Khanna,the richest man in Mumbai is hiring a nanny for his one year old boy. Why don't you give it a try?'' Mahek went through the article. "Oh! This is interesting! Doesn't he have a wife? Or families like his parents?'' Asked Mahek. "His wife died when their little boy was born. Since that day he never saw his child's face. He thinks he's the reason he lost his wife. He does have parents but they live abroad. Right now his maid is taking care of the boy but he needs a live in nanny who can stay with the boy while he travels for business.'' Said Saya. "Wow! You seem to know a lot about him! Baath kya hai Saya madam?'' Asked Mahek. "Baath Kuch Nahi hai..I was working for him and because of my health I had to quit.. that's all.'' Mahek thought for a while. "Don't think too much Mahek,you need money for your family right?..look at the figure he's willing to pay!'' Saya placed her finger on the amount of pay Shaurya was offering. "Don't you think that's a lot of money for a live in nanny?'' Questioned Mahek. "It is But you need it don't you?'' Somehow saya convinced Mahek for the job. "Ok fine! I'll go meet him tomorrow.''
Next day Mahek was standing on the doorstep of khanna mansion,ringing the doorbell. A butler opened the door. "Yes can I help you?'' Mahek showed him the ad in the paper. "I'm here for the job.'' Butler moved on the side. "Please come in.'' Mahek followed him to the hall. "Have a seat,Shaurya sir will be right with you.'' Mahek nodded and the Butler left. Mahek heard a baby crying somewhere and someone scolding the baby in an unpleasant voice. She followed the noise and ended up in the baby's room upstairs. A maid was forcefully shoving a milk bottle in the baby's mouth and the baby wasn't liking it at all. He was crying and kicking the maid. The maid got really upset and hit him on his leg. "No! Don't hit him! He's just a baby!'' Mahek rushed and took the baby in her arms. "This is how you take care of a baby! Stupid woman!'' Mahek snapped at the maid who looked guilty as charged. Mahek hugged the little cutie pie to her chest. At once the baby stopped crying and cooed on her chest. She kissed the baby's head and the baby looked at her face,all happy now. "Mummum..'' he touched her face with his tiny hands. Mahek kissed his fingers and the baby giggled. "Aww..you are so cute!'' Mahek caressed him lovingly. She felt a deep connection and fell in love with the baby in no time. And little cutie pie found motherly love in her arms which he had missed for the past one year. "Mummum..Dudu..'' he said gesturing towards the bottle. "Cutie pie is hungry! Just a second..'' Mahek gave him his bottle,he slept on her lap and started sucking. "Bhagwan ji,How can you snatch his mother from this innocent child? What was his fault?'' Mahek questioned god in her heart but no answer came. The baby played with her hair as she sang a lullaby and rocked him to sleep. When the baby was fast asleep,she placed him in his bassinet. All this was witnessed by Shaurya who was standing by the door of the baby's room. He gestured the other maid to leave and the maid left. He cleared his throat startling Mahek who almost jumped. She placed her hand on her chest and looked at him. In front of her eyes stood the most handsome man of all. Tall,brown,muculine and hairy. She felt butterflies in her tummy. Her dark, wide eyes, stared back at him,his hands were in his pocket. she continued staring at him, frustrated that the height difference had her eyes at the level of his chest. A very broad chest. Lifting her chin, she held his gaze, irritated that what met her ire was a very sexy man, rough around the edges with his chiseled jaw covered in stubble and penetrating eyes staring back at her. "Greek god or something?'' She muttered under her breath. Her chest rose and fell with each shaky gasp."Calm down Mahek..don't make a fool of yourself.'' She said in her heart. She opened her mouth slightly, as though to speak, but closed it quickly when he spoke. "I didn't mean to startle you. I'm Shaurya Khanna.'' He introduced himself. His voice, like his looks, was rough as gravel. "It's ok...I'm ..'' she could only say half of what she intended to say when he cut her off. "What was your name again?'' he growled, his rough voice filling the small bedroom."I...I'm Mahek.. Swallowing audibly, she repeated, "Mahek sharma.'' "I see you two get along really well.'' He said. Swallowing deeply, her voice shook as she replied. "I get along quite well with all the children.'' "Very well! You are hired miss sharma! Leave your contact info and your bank account number with my manager downstairs. Your pay will be deposited in your account twice a month.'' He continued. "While the baby is asleep,my drivers will help you move your stuffs. Your room is next to the baby's,across from mine. 24/7 the baby will be with you. If you have to go anywhere take him with you I don't care. From tomorrow there will be one butler,one Gardner and one driver in the house. And me,I hardly ever come home. So basically you'll be the boss here. Any questions or anything you need,just contact my manager. He will be happy to assist you.'' He walked to her and gave her his managers business card. With clumsy hand,she took the card careful not to touch his fingers. "And one more thing,I don't like being called sir or Saab ji or things like that. Just call me Shaurya.'' Mahek nodded and he turned to go. Seeing the back of him, she felt the tension in the air as well as the tension in his stance.From more of a distance, she could see that he was not only broad-shouldered, but his physique tapered to a trim waist and his jeans fit perfectly over his hips. He had to be well over six feet tall, dwarfing her.Mahek swallowed. "What's the baby's name?'' She asked from behind his back. An uncomfortable guilt slid over him. An emotion he was unaccustomed to and immediately decided he hated."He has no name..you can give him a name'' he told her without turning towards her and left. Her brow crinkled and she frowned. "What? He hasn't named his child yet? Strange man!'' Mahek blabbered to herself. A tap on the door broke her reverie. "Miss sharma I'm Karan,Shaurya khanna's manager.'' He smiled. "Sorry..hi..'' Mahek handed him a file which contained her information. "Great! Now follow me I'll give you a tour of the house.'' Mahek nodded and followed behind him. Karan showed her around. They came to a halt by a room that was locked. She gave a questionable look at him. "That room has Payal bhabi's memories. Don't ever open the room and go in there. Only person that goes inside is Shaurya.'' Karan told her. "Payal was Shaurya's wife?'' She asked. "That's right! And Payal Bhabi is still alive for Shaurya..I mean literally. She died a year ago but he's not letting her go. He spends time in that room talking to her pictures..'' Karan removed his glasses and wiped the tears from his. "How can someone love like this?'' Mahek thought. Her eyes became glossy with tears but she quickly blinked it away. "I'll be here with the baby,you go get your stuffs and be back before he gets up.'' Karan told her. Mahek threw a last glance at the locked room and went away from there.
Shaurya was on his balcony. The sun was so brilliantly shining and it was only eleven o'clock in the morning. The tiniest of breezes ruffled Shaurya's hair. The day was so beautiful but there was a kind of agony to it, an amazing silence, and all one could hear in the silences were birds, a quiet chirping, a sudden shrieking, and the overwhelming smell of flowers. . . lily of the valley, gardenias, freesia, buried in a carpet of moss. But Shaurya khanna saw none of it and he seemed to hear nothing at all. His eyes had been closed for several minutes, and when he opened them, he stared for the longest time, almost like a zombie, looking colorless, so unlike the image everyone had of him. . . Or had for the last one year.He stood immobilized in the brilliant sunlight, watching nothing, his eyes closed again, almost too tightly, he pressed his eyelids tightly together, and for a moment he wanted never to open them again, as payal had not, and she never would again. There was a voice, droning softly in the distance, saying something, sounding no different than the hum of insects buzzing near the flowers. And he felt nothing. He opened his eyes and he saw her. Mahek sharma,his child's nanny going towards the gates. He felt a wave of panic wash over him. . . he closed his eyes. . . the way she wore her hair. . . the color of her eyes. . . his eyes flew open brusquely, tearing the lids apart like hands that had been clasped, skin that had once upon a time been grafted. He opened his wallet and looked at his deceased wife's photo. "Dammit payal! You sent her didn't you? I know you did! But remember one thing,I have no room for her in my life! She can become your son's mother but nothing for me! A cool breeze hit his face and then the curtains behind him flew with the wind. A soft giggle spread in the air. "Payal!'' Shaurya called out loudly. He always felt her presence around him. "She's the one for you Shaurya...she entered your house and soon she'll enter your heart. Our baby already loves her. Didn't your hear this morning he called her Mummum? She's the mother of our child. It's time to move on Shaurya. Move on and let me go! Erase my memories,burn my photos in that locked room! If you don't then I will burn the whole house down!'' Her voice like a whisper spread around him. "I will not you hear me! Do whatever you can and I am standing my ground!'' He screamed and shoved his wallet in his pocket. "You will fall in love with her Shaurya...I'll make sure that you do then I can Rest In Peace.'' Her voice died with the wind.
Mahek was packing her bag when Saya startled her from behind. "Gees girl! You scared me!'' Mahek held her chest and let out a deep breath. "Sorry! So how was it? Did you get the job?'' Mahek sank on the bed. "I got the job but there's so much going on in that house. That khanna didn't even name his little boy who's a year old now! I understand he lost his wife but how can he just ignore his own child? How can he blame a innocent soul for his wife's death? That man I tell you is a big time nutcase! Someone needs to sort him out really good!'' Said Mahek. "You have a very good opportunity to sort him out Mahek.'' Mahek continued packing the bags. "I can't ..I'm not there for him..I'm there for the baby.'' Saya sat beside her and helped her to pack. "What happened Mahek? You seem confused.'' Mahek sighed. "I don't know yaar...I'm scared..I feel I'm gonna screw up everything.'' Mahek walked to the open window and looked at the sky. "You are scared because you think you'll fall in love with him,isn't it?'' Asked Saya. Mahek ignored her question and grabbed her bag. "I gotta go! Come visit me whenever you have time. Aur haan! Tomorrow I'm arranging for a naming ceremony for the baby where I will give him a name! That little boy deserves a beautiful name. You are invited!'' Mahek told her with a smile. "I will come. You take care now and call me. Don't forget your friend.'' Both friends came out and Mahek locked the door. "I will never forget you Saya. Because of you I got the job and a cutie pie that calls me Mummum! I'm a single mother now!'' Both friends laughed. Waving her hand,Mahek got in the car and the driver drove away.
Next chapter: Mahek names the baby. MehRya's tashan transforms into love encounters. The baby brings Mummum and his papa closer each passing day. Twist and turns on the way but remember it's a love story and it will have a happy ending. You know me right? Hehe..stay tuned.
