I do think housemates were just joking, but just happened in bad taste given the lack of recognition, awareness and acceptance regarding LGBTQ in India.

Irony was Deepak is the one who acts like a dog in heat around Romil and then after the secret reveal he was acting as if he is afraid and should stay away from him.

I'm not shocked at all. I knew before Bigg boss that KV was homophobic.. Glad finally people saw it too.. I used to be his big fan at some point of time.
