Ved's character in Tamasha , was so damn complicated. And he behaved and had that bipolar thing going on..
If you were in Tara's place , would you have ever fallen for a guy like that ?

She had fallen deeply for him even before she discovered his other, complicated side and hence couldn't be with any other guy in those 4 years before meeting him again. Her love for him was pretty deep, therefore she just couldn't let go of him when she saw how troubled he was in life. Tara's love for Ved was the rare kind that had developed so deeply in just those few days they spent together in Corsica. So, I am not sure whether she would have still fallen for him so deeply had she seen his other side before coming across the fun, witty Ved she met in Corsica. Her love for the Corsica Ved made her love the Delhi Ved more as she realised he needed help.
And Ved didn't suffer from Bipolar disorder in the movie. The immense suppression of his real feelings made him like that and when Tara spoke about the real Ved being different, it touched a raw nerve with him and all those suppressed feelings came rushing out in an uncontrollable manner. Hence, the crazy behavior in the second half.

And to answer your question - I think I surely would have fallen for the Corsica Ved. He really was something else.

no, as fun as ved was in corsica, the side to him that was in delhi was too extreme, i mean i cud hav understood if he was in a deep depression and was severely upset, but the way he was acting was bordering on insanity, jumping on the board meeting table and dancing, the way he was acting with his boss wen he was getting fired, how mean and heartless he was to tara, he was putting her through so much and it wasnt her fault at all, i understand that he wasnt happy with his life, but then that doean't mean he shud act like that

and all it took was a simple conversation with his dad to make him better, why didn't ved do that before? his dad wasnt angry at him, didn't shout at him, he was fine with ved told him how he felt, so i was really confused as to why ved felt like he cudn't talk to his dad for so many years, all those years wasted on doing a job he didn't want to do and he cud hav done was just talk to his dad

so its makes me think, if ved ever went to into another depression or upset wud he act like that again? wud he push everyone away and do crazy things, that kind of behaviour is upsetting to not only himself but to others around him

i think the concept had good potential, but i dont think imtiaz presented it in a way that the audience cud understand it fully or for it to appeal to a wider audience, i feel he cud hav presented ved in a bit of a different way where we cud hav understood him better, coz many people do go through life not doing a job they truly want to do, but they do not act like how ved was doing, so that appeal factor was missing

Honestly, to like or understand Ved, one needs to be a little like Ved or at least have someone in their life who is like Ved. I frankly would have never understood the character had I not seen similar behavior in my life. Imtiaz went shockingly deep in his portrayal of Ved's character. I understand why some wouldn't have understood his behavior in the second half, but that doesn't mean the portrayal wasn't right or too complicated. It was rather very simple to understood for those who could.

The film was badly executed by Imtiaz IMO. Ved is a character which almost every person who feels suffocated in a corporate milieu should have related to. Imtiaz instead made him extreme and crazy and gave a pretty idealistic and impractical solution to the issue like most films do. I personally related to a lot of scenes in the second half. The whole 'suppressing your real personality to fit in', 'forcing yourself to behave a certain way', 'that moment when you really want to smack your boss and show him your middle finger' etc etc. I particularly love the scene where Ved goes after this guy at the party after he asks him how he is doing. And Ved goes crazy about how no one really wants to know how you are doing and its just asked for formality (I really did relate to that 😆). But Imtiaz went extreme in certain scenes and the resolution to the conflict was particularly underwhelming. In reality, its not always that easy to make a choice. Its not easy to quit a well paying corporate job and pursue a passion which may or may not pay you well. Its over-simplification in a way and finishing the film just because you are running past 2 hours. Also the first half was horribly executed. So it essentially was a great concept gone wrong because of Imtiaz and his love for pseudo-intellectualism 😆 To answer your question, I din't find the Corsica Ved charming and while the second half had relatable bits, he is definitely not a guy I'd fall in love with. Come to think of it, Jordan was equally obnoxious 😆

well like u said to understand him u wud need to know someone like him, and i dont think many people know someone like ved, maybe some people do act like him but then we can agree it is extreme behaviour, its true he does need help but in reality him just talking to his dad isn't the solution, a real life ved wud need physiological help and counselling, he has deep rooted problems and nobody really spoke to him about those problems in detail in the film

exactly, i agree with that, the concept of the film had so much potential, it cud hav been a good film, but imtiaz did not execute it well, he made ved into someone not many people cud relate to, some even thought ved was bipolar and i dont think imtiaz wanted people to think that, imtiaz cud hav made a simple film about a mans struggle with following the status quo and not being able to follow his dreams, many people wud hav related to that, but he made ved into someone so complicated and unappealing

I think its okay to make him complicated and unappealing. The problem was that he made Ved a little too extreme and crazy. And then he went ahead and resolved the conflict in a pretty pedestal way. Why even bother taking up a relatable issue when you can't offer a practical solution to it. Almost every film in this genre ends with the character having a realization that they should quit this job/suffocating career choice and pursue their passion (which is usually something artistic like photography or film making or story telling). If only life was that simple.

The psychological problems in Ved were a result of the suppression of feelings and his real self. He had successfully managed to put his Corsica self hidden/aside and had become a pro at living a life even he didn't realize he wasn't enjoying till Tara came along searching for the other Ved she had met. Only when Tara lays out his two starkly different personalities after the proposal scene does he also begin to realise the extent of the problem and thus begins his journey of finding himself, which finally takes him to his Dad, and he ends up flatly telling his Dad that he wasn't good at his work because he just wasn't being himself while doing it.

The reason why he is so thankful towards Tara in the end is because, had she not understood him and spoken about it, even he wouldn't have been able to understand himself and change the direction of his life. And only when a person realises that there indeed is a problem, can that person go and seek help, or try and change things, and change things he certainly does when we are shown a successful Ved doing what he loves to do in life.

On that note, the film had amazing dialogues in the second half. This one's my favorite-

Tara

Tara

Kaunsa Tara?

Kis manzil ka ?

Kya chakkar hai ?

Kahan chala hai dil ka Rasta?

Bin kadmo ke

Dur khadi sapno ki mallika

Hai thodi na yaar

Mirage hai !

Jo desert me dikhta hai

Hoti reyt hai , lagta paani

Uske liye main papad beloon?

Do kaudi ki hasti hai, par usse khelu?

Fek bikheru apna sab kuch

Uski khatir?

Kise chahiye Mann ka sona,

Ankh ki Moti,

Kise padi hai

Andr kya hai ?

Hoti reyt hai

Lagta pani

Good cast, great music, good cinematography, good dialogues, good concept all down the drain cos of Imtiaz ( I realized I really do have an aversion to his films 😆)
