CHAPTER 5. ARNAV-KHUSHI'S LOVE STORY!

Few weeks passed and with it Arnav and Khushi's love grew. They met every week and spoke to each other on phone every morning. If on the personal front, Arnav's love life was flourishing, then on professional front, his Construction Company was also flourishing. His company was winning tenders after tenders all over the city and most of the constructions happening in the city sported the board of AR Constructions. In contrast, Maan lost many of his customers and only the old and loyal ones stuck with him. But this was not the result of Arnav's hard work though. No! Just hard work would never have been enough to win against Maan. Maan was an experienced person and winning against him just through hard work would have never been enough. So Arnav had resorted to underhand tactics.

Arnav had bribed some of Maan's officials who gave him the information about Maan's tenders due to which Arnav was easily able to lower the price of his quotation and win the tender. Arnav even paid some of Maan's employees to create problems in Maan's company. Arnav knew what he was doing was wrong. But he didn't care. For him, the most important thing was making his Di happy. And Arnav knew that the ultimate happiness for Geet would be the absolute downfall of Maan Singh Khurana. And he wanted to make his Di happy as soon as possible. And if that meant using corruptive measures then so be it. Maan had to loose! That's it!

Two months had passed since Arnav and Khushi went on first date when Geet broached an important topic during the breakfast.

"Arnav!, Geet spoke up.

"Yes Di?, Arnav mumbled as he nibbled his sandwich.

"I want to talk to you about something very important!, Geet said as she ate her parathas.

"Ok!, Arnav kept the sandwich aside and took a sip from his glass of water.

"I want to talk to Khushi's family about your marriage!, Geet blurted out and Arnav choked on his water. He started to cough.

"Arnav!, Geet shouted in alarm and rushed to pat his back.

Once Arnav had his coughing under control he looked at his Di with shock, "Marriage?

"Of course!, Geet looked at him as if he was being an idiot, "That is the next thing to do right? When you fall in love? You fall in love, you get married!

Arnav blinked a few times, "But Di...

"What?, Geet frowned and then her eyes widened, "Hey Babaji! Are you trying to tell me that you don't want to marry her? Her face took on the expression of anger and without letting Arnav to explain, she started to scold him, "How could you Arnav! She loves you and you lead her on! That poor girl! You have no shame! Is this how I have raised you? What are you doing Arnav? You are breaking the poor girl's heart! She loves you with her whole heart and you are planning to break it! Arnav, this is...

Geet would have gone on for another hour if Arnav hadn't cut in.

"Di! I do love her! And I am not playing with her!, Arnav snarled, "And yes, I do want to marry her!

Geet frowned again in confusion, "Then why the reluctance to get married?

Arnav sighed, "Di! We just met! Its barely been two months!

Geet frowned, "So what? Arre! In my time, a man met a girl once and decided to marry her!

Arnav gave her a bland look, "But they didn't get married right away! They got engaged and spent time together till they got married! Infact, some marriages happened a year after they met!

"But they did get engaged, right?, Geet pounced onto his words as she grinned eagerly at him, "Then, no problem! We will get you two engaged and then you can romance each other as much you want. And we will get you married as per your wish! In two weeks, two months or two years! Ok?

Arnav narrowed his eyes at her and Geet smirked, "Now that you have given your excuses, can you tell me the real reason behind your reluctance?

Arnav sighed, "Di! Right now I want to focus only on ruining Maan Singh Khurana! I can't be letting anything divert my mind from it!

"Oh?, Geet smiled at him sarcastically, "And you didn't think about that before flirting with her and romancing with her all over Dilli?

Arnav looked down at her words.

Geet glared at him.

After few seconds of silence, Geet announced, "I am meeting her family and that's it!

"But Di? My Goal?, Arnav whined.

Geet gave him a glare, "Maan's life will be ruined when it will but for that you don't need to stop living your life! Don't let Khushi go! Very rarely you get true love, Arnav! Don't loose her just because of my dream!

"Di!, Arnav whispered.

"Yes Arnav!, Geet looked at him with anguish, "Ruining Maan is my dream, my wish and the answer to all my pains! But its not your dream! You are just helping me fulfil it! Don't put a full stop to your life for the sake of my dreams!

"But Di! It's a pause, not a full stop!, Arnav mumbled.

Geet shook her head, "But the pause will turn into full stop, Arnav! Khushi might be interested in waiting for you but her family won't be! How long will it take for you to destroy Maan? 1 year? 2 years? 5 years? 10 YEARS? Will her family wait that long for you? No! They would want their child married soon. And I won't be reason behind you losing the love of your life!

Arnav shook his head too, "But Di! Your dream is my dream too!

"Yes! But its not Khushi's!, Geet explained, "Don't ruin her dreams for mine! Arnav please!

Arnav sighed but then nodded, "Fine! I will talk to her about it!

"Aww!, Geet grinned and kissed her baby brother's cheek, "Cho chweet!

Geet walked away and Arnav grumbled, "As if I can say no to you!

"WHAT?

Khushi stared at Arnav with such an aghast look on her face, that Arnav felt as if he had done some mortal sin. Did I say something wrong? Arnav frowned. The way she is reacting, someone would say she was my wife and I was telling her that I want to divorce her! All I said was that I wanted her to meet my sister. Why is Khushi reacting like this?

Khushi and Arnav were meeting at a restaurant and Arnav had just told Khushi that Geet wanted to meet her and he was going to take her to his house right away.

"Khushi! Is everything alright? Why are you reacting like this?, Arnav finally asked.

Khushi was still looking at him unblinkingly.

He grabbed her hand and pinched her arm.

"Ouch!, Khushi shouted as she finally blinked and rubbed her arm while glaring at him, "Why did you pinch me?

"What else I am supposed to do?, Arnav cried out, "You were staring at me without blinking!

"Of course! I was unblinkingly staring at you! I was shocked!, Khushi burst out still looking annoyed.

Arnav was taken aback. He looked at her in confusion, "Why were you shocked?

"Why? Why was I shocked?', Khushi gasped in loud voice, standing up without realising, making the patrons surrounding them look at them.

"Khushi! Ssshhh!, Arnav shushed her.

Khushi finally noticed the people surrounding her and sat down. She looked around slyly waiting for others to look away.

Once people looked away, she looked back at Arnav and whispered, "How can you even ask why I am shocked after the bomb you threw on me! You are asking me to meet your sister! Your family! Hey Devi Maiyya! What will happen now?, Khushi started to mumble to herself worriedly.

"Why are you so worried? My sister won't eat you!, Arnav looked at her amused as he realised that she was worried and that was why she was shocked by his request.

"But she wants to meet me! Don't you understand?, Khushi cried out as she looked at him in distress.

"What am I supposed to understand?, Arnav asked, once again confused.

Khushi huffed, "Hey Devi Maiyya! What if your sister didn't like me? What if I couldn't impress her? What if my first impression was bad? What if she rejected me? What if she thought I don't deserve you?

Her expression was so earnest and so filled of fear that Arnav couldn't resist from chuckling.

Khushi looked at him indignant. She slapped his hand which was on the table, "Arnav! she hissed.

Arnav calmed down and but still looked amused, "So many what ifs! And for what? You meeting my sis for the first time? But you already have done that!

"Come again?, Khushi was confused.

"Yup! You heard it right. You have met my sister before!, Arnav continued still looking amused.

"When? And why cannot I remember?, Khushi was panicking, "I mean I would have remembered if I had met her, right? I mean she is going to be one of the most important persons of my life! How can I meet her and not remember it?

"Khushi! Khushi! Relax!, Arnav mumbled as he grabbed Khushi's hand hoping that the gesture would calm her. But she still looked agitated.

"No, Arnav! You have to tell me!, Khushi looked at him with focus, "When have I met your sister?

Arnav looked at her with smile, "You remember us meeting in the mall?

Khushi frowned as she tried to remember the moment. Then her eyes widened and she nodded, "Oh yes!, she chuckled, "Hey Devi Maiyya! The things I said to you and about you! She let out a laugh, "I used to misunderstand you so much! She continued to laugh.

Arnav waited for her to stop laughing and when she did, he looked at her with twinkling eyes, "You remember that lady you met there?

Khushi's eyes widened once again in remembrance and she shook her head amusedly, "I said so many bad things about you to that lady. The words I used! Hey Devi Maiyya! What impression must I have left on her about you? She once more laughed and then when she calmed down she smiled at him, "She was such a sweet lady!

That's when she noticed the expression on Arnav's face. Arnav smiled at her in such a peculiar manner that Khushi frowned, "Why are you looking at me like that?

Arnav continued to smile and Khushi got annoyed by his expression. She ignored it and frowned, "And by the way, when I asked you about when have I met your sister, why did you deflect it and reminded me about our meet at the mall?

Arnav still looked at her with that peculiar smile and a thought entered Khushi's head, "What is the connection between our meet and your sist... Khushi trailed off as her eyes widened once again. She finally understood.

"NO!, she blurted out, "No! No! No! No! No way!, she cried out.

"Oh yes!, Arnav's smile turned into full blown grin as he looked at her with mischief on his face.

"Hey Devi Maiyya!, Khushi whined as she slapped her forehead, "Please tell me, that I got it wrong. Please tell me that the lady in the mall is not your sister!

"Ok!, Arnav shrugged, "I won't tell you!

"Arnav!, Khushi whined and Arnav started to laugh again.

"Don't laugh!, Khushi growled as she once again slapped Arnav's hand.

"Arre! Why shouldn't I?, Arnav chuckled, "This is so amusing!

"Amusing? You think this is amusing?, Khushi glared at Arnav, "I said so many bad things about you! To your own sister! What must she think of me? She folded her hands on the table and placed her head on it, feeling like an idiot.

"She thinks you are amazing!, Arnav shrugged.

"What?, Khushi looked up at him and he nodded, "Yes! She thinks any girl who has the guts to stand up to me and back answer me is amazing and she is happy that I fell in love with such a girl!

"Oh!, Khushi mumbled totally taken aback by Arnav's answer.

"Now that you are ok with it, can we please go and meet my sister?, Arnav pleaded.

Khushi bit her lip and then shook her head.

"Now what?, Arnav asked a little annoyed.

Khushi gave her clothes a glance, "I am not dressed appropriately!

Arnav gave her a glance. She was dressed in black off shoulder dress that reached her knees.

"I think you look good!, Arnav looked at her and then winked, "Infact, you look hot!

Khushi rolled her eyes, "Exactly! I am dressed as a hot girlfriend! Not as a bahu material!

"How old you think my sister is?, Arnav asked, bewildered and shrugged, "She is not that old, you know! Just in her mid 30s. She won't mind you in dress!

Khushi still looked worried.

"But Arnav..., Khushi mumbled and Arnav had enough.

"Now what?, he growled.

"You know I met her as some random woman, not as her sister-in-law. What if I do some mistake and she decides not to accept me?, Khushi mumbled.

Arnav sighed and grabbed Khushi's hands, "Khushi! My sister is an angel! She will never reject you! And you know why?

Khushi shook her head.

"Because I love you!, Arnav gave her a gentle smile, "And my happiness is in being with you! And my Di will do anything for my happiness! So relax, ok?

Khushi nodded and then smiled at her, "Ok! We will go!

"Great!, Arnav got excited, "Lets go!

Khushi bit her lip and then straightened up and nodded.

Later when they sat in the car, Arnav noticed that Khushi still looked nervous.

"Still nervous?, he questioned and Khushi nodded.

Arnav smiled at her, "You don't need to worry! Di will never reject you!

Few hours later in Arnav's room, after Geet and Khushi met and Khushi took leave to go back home...

"I reject this girl! This girl cannot be your bride! I refuse to accept her and order you to cease any and every ties with her!, Geet announced and Arnav stood stock still.

Oh My God! Why is Geet rejecting Khushi?

The answer resides in the past!

And the past is where we will be in the next chapter!

Think Khushi is connected somehow to Maan, hence the rejection.
