Thanks for sharing the background behind Prithvi, I didn't know all the details. Shashi's kids have definitely managed Prithvi well. I see Sanjana associated with it all the time but guess Karan and Kunal are also a big part of managing Prithvi well.

I guess RK studios had its glory days, which are now clearly over. Not surprised to hear about Nargis's money getting stuck, I believe she moved on for good when she made the decision to part ways with Raj Kapoor personally and professionally. Chembur is definitely out of the way, considering all the other studios are in Goregaon and Andheri. I think Randhir, Rishi and Rajeev tried their best but when their RK Films produced and directed movies (last production was Aa Ab Laut Chalen if I remember correctly) flopped, they all seem have to lost hope on reviving RK Films and with putting it up on the market is the final nail in the coffin it seems. Also with Rajan Nanda's death, I think it's best the remaining generation of Kapoors sorts out their share in property while everyone is still alive, property disputes are never easy to resolve.

It makes sense to sell it. There would be a lot of maintenance costs and nobody was really booking it anyway so no money was coming in.

After the fire, they probably got good money from insurance. They're not going to waste that money to rebuild the studio when they have nobody who can handle it. There would be so many heirs to it who would just keep fighting over it for generations. They might as well sell it and split the money between the siblings and enjoy their life.

I wonder if they would actually be able to sell it? Who would even be interested? 😆

Wasn't there always this expectation that Ranbir was going to revive it? I feel like I've read speculations about this in the past, possibly even from a Ranbir interview itself.

At first I thought maybe it's not financially feasible to hold onto it until Ranbir is capable and ready. But after reading a few posts I'm wondering if there is ownership issues between the siblings or grandchildren. In that case then it's smart to avoid public drama and just let everyone do their own thing should they choose to.

I thought Ranbir said that if he produces films, he would do it under his own name, not RK Studios.

How would it work anyway if Ranbir was to take over? There are so many owners and why should RK get it when even Kareena is a working actress?

Let's say someone revived it with their hard work, then I assume they would have to share part of the income/profits with all the others since it's not sole ownership? Why would anyone want to work that hard only to give away most of the profits to 10 other people? 😆

^^ Oh yes now I do remember RK saying that he would do things under his own name and not RK banner during JJ or possibly ADHM promotions. But expectations must have been there for him to clarify this. I definitely remember at least the speculations that Ranbir would take over.

Maybe joint ownership is the main reason Ranbir decided not to get involved. I can sonehow see some of the sexist Kapoors thinking since Ranbir is the only son of a son of Raj Kapoor it should all go to him. I can also see it pissing off others, rightfully so.

I think they had probably hoped that Ranbir would be interested in carrying forward the tradition once he was ready. The Kapoors are pretty sexist and wouldn't pass the property onto girls..so I doubt Kareena/Karisma/Riddhima would get anything other than perhaps a share. That being said, I don't think Kareena/Karisma are even interested in running a PH nor do I get the vibes that that's something they would even be able to do well.

And Ranbir said that he wasn't interested in reviving RK banner and if he had to produce it would be under his own banner. TBH, even Ranbir doesn't have the capabilities to do it given how horrible he did a job as a producer in JJ. At this point, it's essentially a full time job for someone to do that and I don't think Ranbir/Kareena have that kind of time or passion for it. If they had to do it, then they would do it for their own PH/studio so they wouldn't have to share the profits with their entire family.

It's best to sell it now. They would have gotten good insurance money and the division can happen easily between the 3 brothers.
