"We are actors not heroes, this is our profession, our work, our livelihood. People should stop calling actors heroes. The soldiers standing guard at the borders of our country, protecting us from the enemy, they should be called heroes. The people who have commited their lives to helping others, they are heroes. Those who go out of their way to make the society a better place, they are hero, not us. We are just doing our job and getting paid, nothing heroic about that! "
THIS!

The "hero" perception really limits Indian cinema. There is a notion that the movie needs to be fronted by a "hero" or "heroes". These heroes are typically male. They are either romantic heartthrobs or action stars. The hero needs a love interest, either as the central plot of the film or as a side narrative.

In recent times films have shifted away from this. Movies like 102 not out, Hichki, Raazi, Veere Di Wedding definitely break the mold. But we do have major filmmakers going back to old formulas always.

Couldn't agree more. The word "Hero" is so misused. Only in India. They're actors. A Hero is someone whose done something heroic. A war hero for example. He's also right that people are moving away from it. At least most of the young actors don't seem very interested in it except Varun.
Coming to BKB, everybody held their own. RR didn't eat anyone alive. That's ridiculous. It was a good performance by the whole ensemble cast.
