Kashyap and Anurag Basu
By Suparno Sarkar | Published: July 28,2018

Ranbir Kapoor's father Rishi Kapoor has yet again slammed directors Anurag Kashyap and Anurag Basu for the actor's previous flops Bombay Velvet and Jagga Jasoos.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Rishi praised Ranbir's latest release Sanju but took sharp jibes at the two directors, who according to him were responsible for Ranbir's back-to-back flops.

"It was a pretty good film, unlike both Velvet or Jagga. They were bad films. They were indulgent. Even Sanjay Leela Bhansali made Saawariya. I mean his forte is something else and he made something else. Anurag Kashyap (Bombay Velvet)," Rishi said.

"You give him so much money, he literally didn't know what to do with it. Jagga Jasoos was such a bad film, such a bad story. It was absolutely rubbish. I questioned Ranbir and he said, 'Papa, the man who gave me Barfi, how could I question his...I thought he'd be responsible enough to know to keep the story at its point," he added.

Rishi praised Ranbir for the dedication he showed for the film Sanju. The actor underwent impressive physical transformations for the biopic on Sanjay Dutt.

"I mean everybody said ki what is Ranbir doing and again it's going to go down the drain and Ranbir is finished and this and that. They all said that. I said that it is his choice and he's an actor, he will go through these experiences. He'll learn from his mistakes. I mean I've seen that boy coming to the house and not eating, then working out and putting on weight for the bulked up Sanju and then losing it all for the lanky one. And that boy has worked really hard for the film. People are not really understanding the amount of labour that is gone as an actor in the film," the veteran actor said.

This guy is just pathetic. One hand, Basu is being nice and giving a professional response about this fiasco (and still praising Ranbir) and here this guy is being as obnoxious as ever. These entitled fathers are the absolute worst. And then he is also talking about his private conversations with Ranbir and insinuating that even RK was disappointed with him when he has always maintained in public that he only has respect for Basu. Now I won't even blame Basu if he gets back at him by talking about RK's messed up schedule and how he kept delaying JJ because of the 100 films he signed.
P. S. I have always wanted Ranbir to work with Basu but with a father like this, it's never happening 😆

Also Kashyap publicly took responsibility for BV and even mentioned that he feels guilty about letting Ranbir down. Compare that to this guy who is still trashing a film which released years back. Rishi Kapoor wouldn't know even if humility and sensitivity hit him on his face 😆

Be it Ranbir or Aamir in Dangal or Christian Bale in Machinist and all other such people. It's the demand of the character. You are an actor. You are supposed to do all that in order to look believable. Why should there be special appreciation for that when it comes as a part and parcel of an actor's life!

I think bale transformation have been like extreme to extreme , guy ha literally screwed up his good looks for movie transformation.
Ranbir and amir transformation seems pretty normal to me , only issue I see is with amir putting on weight at his age ,like Salman has been trying for years to lose that weight he gained for sultan 😆

He's got a point even if he's being a little harsh about it.
SLB's Saawarya was mess and the actors were the only saving grace. He should have done something more conventional with the newbies.

Anurag Kashyap didn't know what to do with all that money. A story happening in that era should have been more gripping and thrilling. He should have done what he did with GoW and have more central characters instead of only focusing on Ranbir and Anushka. I feel a fresh star cast or character acters would have been more suited.
Bombay Velvet ended up being a bland and boring because he couldn't go all out and didn't spend wisely (How much of the budget ended up as Ranbir's salary?).

Anurag Basu was victim of his success but also of Katrina and Ranbir's lover spat. How can a movie tale so much time being made and reshoot ?
Ranbir being the producer should have been more professional imo and managed more with Katrina (especially if they did pack up in a location because of a lover spat)
Anurag Basu was overconfident with his filmmaking and so he should realize that the more a movie entail a big budget and specific locations the more careful he should be. It's important to have a bound script even if he can change stuff alond the way this way he would end up with a hot mess.
This kind of film making is suited for the urban and more realistic movies he did at the beginning of his career but for big budgeted movies it can't be done this way.

Rishi Kapoor is obnoxious. Barfi gave Ranbir the love he had yet to get. It will probably be remembered more than Sanju anyways.
Why doesn't he blame his son for being a horrible producer who couldn't manage the work? Do delayed films ever work? He kept delaying it for 10 other films (which all bombed as well) in between. I haven't seen Jagga but I doubt it was as pointless as ADHM and Roy and Besharam.

JJ was a nice film. It could have been executed better but it wasn't half as pathetic as ADHM. Will this guy go after KJo the same way and bash ADHM? Does Rishi even realise that Barfi is still widely considered as Ranbir's best film and performance till date and that's all thanks to Basu? Even if we were to assume Basu made a bad film and mismanaged stuff, this kind of behaviour is just pathetic and obnoxious. Esp because he already went after Basu once and it's been a year since the film released.
