Uhhh...that question is not true. Have you seen some of our top leading heroines? Let's see. We have Deepika, Aishwarya, Katrina, Kareena who are well in their 30s and 40s.

You should be asking, "why do heros like Salman or Shahrukh try to act like they're 25 years old when they could be acting more like their age? Why do you even make movies with heroines that are 20 years younger than you?

This was true 20 years ago. Juhi Chawla turned 30 in 1997 - she had a very successful year that year but then her career went zooming downhill the following year. Madhuri Dixit also turned 30 that year and also had a mega-successful one, but post-1998 she was no longer signing lead-heroine roles: producers had moved onto the Rani's and Preity's. Sridevi too, she turned 30 in 1993 - and barely had 2 hits post that, until her semi-retirement in 1998.

Thanks to the likes of Aishwarya Rai, Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, the age-bar has been raised.

If we look at 1997 again, Sridevi's last release, she was being seen as "over-the-hill" at the age of 33. But fast-forward to 2006, we had a reborn Aishwarya Rai looking smoking hot at the age of, 33!

Today, all the top girls are 30+. Whether it is Deepika Padukone (32) or Priyanka Chopra (36) or Sonam Kapoor (33) or Anushka Sharma (30) or Katrina Kaif (35) or Kangana Ranaut (32) or Jacuqline Fernandez (33) or Sonakshi Sinha (31) or Parineeti Chopra (30). Alia Bhatt (25) is the only one making a huge splash under-30.

This is a great thing, because back then girls used to enter the industry aged 16 or 17. By the time they were 25 they just about learned how to act and came into their looks, but producers/audiences were tired of their "mature" look. Now you've got girls coming in, around age 22-25. They're not "innocent doll"-looking "virginal" lolitas. They are mature mid-20s strong women. We appreciate them more. They are not as disposable. It's the best era for female performers since the 60s!

Although katrina deepika and priyanka are still working and doing great work...there is a noticeable difference in amount of young female newcomers in comparison to male newcomers launched. The last big generation of male actors introduced was ranbir, arjun, varun, ranveer, etc but there are still female newcomers launched every year, where eventually the girls who will be launched 10 years from now will be romancing the ranbir's and ranveer's...or whoever makes it to the top league and.who would be in their 40's. It is just a cycle i feel that will always exist and which is sexist imo. All i am sayig there will come a time when deepika, katrina, priyanka, even alia for that matter will be considered too old for even the current generation of heros.

As much as we want to believe that the industry is changing its really not.

Madhuri's comeback films haven't worked! Neither have Aishwaryas. Katrina's popularity is fading. Priyanka is over, Deepika is pretty much over. Kareena only
Got VDW cuz of Sonam and even that did nothing for her! Vidya despite Sulu is umemployed. Kangana is hanging by a last thread too

People are more interested in Alia Bhatt than the above mentioned actresss and that's a fact. Box office is my witness

In the southern industries (Overtly sexist industries) 40+/- actresses are still giving hit movies. Jaise ek 40+ actress ke 5 mein se 1 ya 2 movie hit hoti hai... waise hi ek 40+ actor ke bhi 5 mein se 1 ya 2 hi hit hoti hai (2-3 superstars ko chhod ke); yahan bhi aur south mein bhi.

Madhuri's comeback films haven't worked!

You mean Aaja Nachle, Gulaab Gang & Dedh Ishqiya... they were very mediocre films to begin with.

Neither have Aishwaryas.

Which was Aishwarya's comeback? Jazbaa and Sarabjit? Again, they were bad films.

Katrina's popularity is fading.

What?

Priyanka is over,

WHAT?!

Deepika is pretty much over.

WHAAAT?!

Vidya despite Sulu is umemployed.

WHAT??!?!

Kangana is hanging by a last thread too

😕

Not just the industry. But I think people, in general and their mindsets need to change. They can't just dismiss and give up on actresses like that. It's so easy to just say oh she's over. I mean? Also, let's not forget, cinema is not going to be the same in the next 5-10 years. With online content, netflix, prime - the entire landscape is going to change. I do not think people who are talented will be out of work, so soon. I see at least Priyanka, Kareena, Kangana, Vidya, Rani, Deepika, Anushka working for at least the next 10-15 years... their roles might change...but they won't stop acting.
