Why is it okay for actors to have connections with underworld members?

In interviews, bollywood actors talk about their connections with the underworld very casually. Rishi Kapoor talked about having Dawood in his house and drinking tea with him. In aap ka adalat, Sunil Dutt jokinly said he and almost everyone in bollywood are connected to the underworld. Why are people okay with bollywood members being connected to the underworld? Why don't fans and media call them out?

I'm not ok with it but many blind fans will probably defend their favourite even if he/she killed a family member so they don't care. And that's why no one in India cares.

Bollywood runs on there money, they have to entertain them, they don't have a choice. Investing croros n crores of money with decent sources on movies is near to impossible.

I am not okay with it... I don't understand how can anyone blindly neglect this side... I guess, they must be thinking that as long as it doesn't hurt me, it doesn't matter

90s was a different time. All of Mumbai was held hostage by the underworld. Top businessmen, politicians, Bollywood...everyone had to have some connection with the underworld. Whether it was paying them money for 'protection' or laundering their money in your projects to make it white.

Of course for Bollywood it was a mutual relationship at that time because of such lack of funding and investment money. Two of the biggest producers Bharat Shah & Jhamu Sugandh worked for Dawood and stars like Salman & Sanjay Dutt had more than just a professional relationship with the underworld.

Basically it was a relationship of fear for most. Dawood ke right hand bande ke bhatije ki birthday party pe usse Govinda se dance karaana hai, then Govinda jaake dance karega.You could try being a hero but would probably get shot like Gulshan Kumar etc.It wasnt just fear though. Bollywood being the sketchy place it is, some were more involved than that.

It all came crashing down with Chori Chori Chupke Chupke of course. Mumbai Police did a phenomenal job of making Mumbai safe again and even though it let Bollywood off with just a slap on the wrist, they made it clear they knew what was going on and if they don't severe ties with the underworld, there would be dire consequences.
