This was just the dress rehearsal, where Porus gave away his trump card, the shock element of the elephants. In the final battle. Alexander was forewarned, and the Macedonian archers shot out the eyes of many of the elephants, which then ran amuck.

Most important, we need Anusuya to do the tilak for Porus and she was not available this time!😉

No idea if the real Porus would have given away his trump card but Sony Porus did, and even though Alexander was startled he did not back down.

Best part is, he will follow his mantra of taking down the leader to end the battle, so he will go straight for Porus. Then he will go back to camp with his ego restored and think of a clever way to take the advantage and defeat Porus in the final battle. I am really curious to see his interaction with Ambhiraj + kumar next and if he uses any of the wisdom Chanakya imparted.

The real Porus never met Alexander before the battle,but the Macedonians knew, from Ambhiraj,about the elephants. They were worried about them, but had planned how to disable them.
