screen after a gap of two years with Anurag
Kashyap's Manmarziyaan. Abhishek will be
essaying a different character in the film. He
took a break from films for two years to
introspect and strategize on the kind of
films he would want to be a part of.
He said in an interview to Film Companion, "I
didn't do any work for 2 years in terms of
acting. I needed to reboot. I felt there was a
sense of complacency that had crept into my
work ethic. I was making more money than
I had in my entire career but you have to ask
yourself, is this what you want to be
remembered for? I just need to go back to
doing work that scares me.
When asked how his family, especially
Amitabh Bachchan had reacted to his break
since he himself had regretted taking a five
year break, Abhishek had said, "Dad and I
have spoken about this a lot. The main
reason he felt is because he thought he lost
touch with what the audiences wanted.
He added, "I think today you are so well
plugged in, you pretty much know what's
going on.
"I spoke to them and they were very
supportive. They also knew that I had my
sports enterprises which was going to keep
me busy round the clock. So, it wasn't as if I
wasn't working. In fact, I worked a lot
harder than when I was just acting. I had to
get a film on the floor and sort out my
sports enterprises. They were okay with it.
Somewhere they were like one year has
gone by, what is this guy doing'. My wife
was fine. I walk my family through what I
do.
