Madhuri was DONE after 1994. She had a string of flops till DTPH. Kajol rose to the top in 1995, while Karisma was busy doing flower-pot roles. Kajol had no releases in 1996 and Karishma rose to the top in 1996 with Raja Hindustani.
1997 was a toss up between Kajol and Karishma. While Karishma had some hits with flowerpot roles she also had DTPH in the end. Kajol had Gupt, which was a huge hit based off on her role majorly. She also had a flowerpot role in Ishq.
1998 was CLEARLY Kajol's year with no releases from Karishma. Karishma IMO ruined her career with this gap.
1999 saw the return of Karishma with "Silsia Hai Pyaar Ka" wich flopped and i remember the headlines "Karisma's Flop Return", but she bounced back with Biwi No. 1 (which honestly completely belonged to her) and HSSH. Kajol on the other hand got married but she had a huge hit in HADMRH continuing her streak of hit movies, she also had a delayed flop movie and another flop in DKK. 1999 was the year of the RISE of Aishwarya, she stole the show with HDDCS and Taal. And there's that.
Aishwarya unfortunately wasn't able to continue her hit streak in 2000, 2001 and 2002, but she was saved by a lack of competition and her role in Devdaas.
