1.she doesn't want to let down the children infront of everyone so she sang but then she felt guilty of breaking the rules

2.she was unaware of the rule before singing she would have not paid attention to that earlier they showed her seeing the pamphlet again so maybe she realised it later

My guess is second one most probably

A persons singing voice sounds different from the talking voice because of varying pitch etc.So that's why he couldn't recall where he had heard that voice. He heard Avnis singing voice only once when she sang the Lori to Mishti in the jungle ...So if he remembers that then he can identify Avnis singing voice.
