Most of the time - yes. They lie.
Anyway, whatever you do please don't follow those 'use baking soda on your skin', 'use lemon on your skin, 'coconut oil is the holy-grail of all skin problems', 'exfoliate your face with sugar and lemon/or other harsh exfoliants'' type shit that is spread all over Pinterest & promoted by clueless YouTubers. It'll ruin your skin. Also, never apply undiluted essential oils directly to your face. You need to dilute them in a carrier oil or you risk burning your skin and ruining your moisture barrier.Lastly, the majority of these youtube videos are total bs. They "teach" you to make skin products at home like face cream, masks. etc. that contain water and they say 'it'll be good for 2-3 weeks if you keep it in the fridge'. IT WON'T. Anything without a preservative (unless it's completely anhydrous) will go bad in a matter of a couple of hours. If you want serious skin care advice then check out r/SkincareAddiction & if you want to get into DIY skin care then check out r/DIYBeautyCheck out this video:What to avoid:Videos like this one and 99.99% of Indian YouTubers who make DIY skin care videos.Where to find SAFE and scientifically formulated DIY recipes:Blogs:Humblebee & MeMakingSkincarePoint of InterestThe Acid QueenEDIT:Please, please never go out without sunscreen (yes, even those days where it's cloudy outside). Apply it on your face, neck, chest & any other exposed body area. Your skin will thank you when you're older."How AHA and BHA Exfoliants Work
AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids, e.g. glycolic and lactic acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy/salicylic acid) act to "unglue the bonds holding dull, dead skin on the surface. Once those bonds are brokengently and evenlyskin naturally sheds. So, although you won't actually see your skin exfoliating, you'll soon see the smoother, younger-looking skin hiding beneath.
To work effectively, AHA and BHA exfoliants must be formulated within a narrow pH range, between 3 and 4.
How AHAs and BHA are Similar
AHAs and BHA have shared benefits. They both
- diminish the look of lines and wrinkles
- make skin look and feel firmer
- hydrate
- improve the look of dull, uneven skin tone
- smooth out rough texture
But each also has unique properties making them preferable for certain skin types and concerns.
How AHAs and BHA are Different
AHAs work on skin's surface, and are water soluble. They're generally preferred for normal to dry, sun-damaged skin, due to their ability to enhance natural moisturizing factors within skin. They've also been proven effective in reducing the visible signs of sun damage.
BHA works on skin's surface and inside the pore; it's oil soluble, so it's most often preferred for normal to oily skin prone to bumps, clogs, blemishes, and enlarged pores. BHA also has natural skin-calming properties, so it's gentle enough for sensitive skin prone to redness and/or rosacea. This well-rounded, gentle ingredient is even suitable for skin prone to milia."
