Father in Govind made him furious but I think he must remember that they are married now.

Aradhna is damn worried but I am not sure how Jairaaj can help her. Now it's time to return for Tara

Previous update on page 56

The Apprentice

Guruji showed them what he had brought. Tara was looking at the ingredients and equipments curiously. Seeing her curiously looking at them, Govind picked up the metal bowl in his hand and said, "This is for you Tara.

"For me? she asked surprised.

"Yes, as I had said earlier, I will be teaching you how to use and control your powers. Along with that we need to prepare for the long awaited battle, he said sighing lightly.

No one could have waited more than him. He knew everything from the beginning. He knew Mrityunjay was the lost prince. Tara was his daughter. But he had to wait till the time was right to reveal everything. Knowing everything but not being able to do anything before the right time sometimes makes you feel more tired.

"Guruji...Guruji... He was brought out of his thoughts by Mrityunjay's words.

"Yes? he said bringing his attention back to the present.

"You seem little...tired, said Mrityunjay hesitatingly.

"Oh, yes. I am a little bit. But when this is over I am going to take rest and not going to listen to anything you have to say, he said smiling slightly at Mrityunjay. He then turned and brought a book out of his bag and handed it to Tara. "This book will help you, he said.

Tara looked at the book. It was a book about magic spells and ways to perform them. "Isn't the book that I already have enough for me to learn? asked Tara.

"No, it's never enough to learn, he said putting his hand on her shoulder and patting a little. "Your training starts today. Saying this, he moved past her and walked out. Tara was looking at his retreating back. She had always wished to train with her father but it never happened. But that dream of hers seems to be turning true now. Even though he was not Tara's father but he was more than a father to Tara.

Mrityunjay looked at Tara. Seeing the longing in her eyes, he understood it as no one understood the feeling of longing more than him. He came to her and held her by her shoulders and squeezed them a little, reassuring her that everything would be fine. He leaned forward a little and kissed her on her forehead and rested his forehead on hers and sighed.

"Tara, come we will start now. Mrityunjay and Tara were brought out of their moment by Guruji's voice from outside the cottage.

Guruji was waiting for them in the paddock when Tara and Mrityunjay walked out of the cottage for training. This time their hands were not clasped with each other. "Tara we will start from the basics, he said.

Tara stood next to Guruji and Mrityunjay went to Maria to cuddle her. "Today we will practice how to move things, he said and clasped his hands behind his back. Tara was standing dumb, not knowing what to do.

"Now, move your hands out from its hiding, he commanded seeing his daughter standing like a statue. She straightened her hands in front of her and opened her palms facing the sky.

"Tara, now focus on the object you want to move, he said. She tried to search for her target and settled on the empty wooden bucket lying in front of her.

"Concentrate. Concentrate on it, he instructed her. She tried to concentrate on it, but nothing happened. Her hands were trembling a little.

"Don't be afraid of it Tara. This magic is a part of you. It's in you. It is you. Just concentrate and it will come easily, he said taking in her nervous look. She looked at him, took a deep breath and again concentrated on the bucket.

"Concentrate on the object and try to move it. Imagine it in your mind, he said. She concentrated on the bucket and willed it to move. After a few failed attempts, she was able to move the bucket somewhat forward from its position. She was happy with her progress and turned towards Guruji to listen to his appraisal but found him inexpressive. She again turned her attention back to the bucket. This time she put more concentration on the bucket and it flew to her and was about to hit her when Guruji pushed her away and let the bucket collide with the wall behind them.

Maria winched a little. Mrityunjay ran towards Tara, who had fallen on the ground, to check her. Guruji saw Mrityunjay's care for Tara and was happy that his daughter had found a man who cared for her. When Mrityunjay was sure she was not hurt, he helped her get up and went back to Maria.

"That's where control comes in, said Guruji coming near Tara. "You have to control your actions otherwise something like this can happen anytime, he said pointing towards the broken bucket.

Tara turned towards the direction where Guruji was pointing and sighed. She concentrated on the broken bucket and stretched her hands moving her fingers slightly willing them to float a bit above the ground. And she succeeded in floating them. Guruji smiled a little. Seeing him smiling, excitement ran through her and her concentration broke. All the floating pieces came crashing to the ground.

"Keep practicing till I come back, he said and walked away from there and went inside the cottage.

Tara again concentrated on the pieces and imagined them to move by moving her fingers slightly. The pieces floated a bit but again came crashing to the ground. She was repeatedly trying and the pieces were falling again and again. It was past noon and she was not able to make any progress and this frustrated her.

Seeing her so frustrated Mrityunjay came to her and said, "You are unable to concentrate because of your scattered thoughts. Focus them.

He took her hands in his and said, "I know they have magic in them. Just a little bit of concentration and they will do the charm.

He brought her hands to his lips and kissed on her knuckles. She smiled. Her heart was once again filled with hope. She turned towards the pieces and this time with full concentration she moved her fingers and found the pieces floating. Without getting distracted, she floated them from one corner of the cottage to the other. Then she focused her attention on the scattered hay and floated them and formed a heap of hay in one corner of the cottage. One by one she was floating things and moving them from one location to the other. Guruji was watching this standing outside the cottage. He felt his heart swell with pride for his daughter. She was learning very fast. She had to learn fast as she was the key in the upcoming battle. She came to Guruji and bent to take his blessings.

He raised her and said, "You are truly a star.

After seeing her excelling in moving objects, Govind said, "You are making good progress. Now, you need to learn how to control the fire.

Tara looked at him in disbelief. "The last time I was near fire it was going to take this place down, she said pointing towards the cottage.

"Yes, you were because you didn't know your gift. Now the situation is different. Now you know the power you have. You can control it and work with it. Guruji came to her and took her hand in his, "Remember last time how the fire started. Try it.

Tara nodded her head and recalled the events of that day. Remembering what to do, she concentrated and snapped her fingers and a small fire lit on her finger tips. Terrified by it she ran towards Maria where water was kept in a bucket. She immediately immersed her fingers in it. After a while she took her fingers out of it and looked at them. They were not burnt. She slowly straightened herself and looked towards Guruji, giving him a confused look.

"Yes, you are not burnt. It's magic, your magic. It is not going to hurt you. He walked towards her and held out his hand for her. She took his hand and they walked towards the paddock where they were training. She stood and snapped her fingers again and this time when the fire lit, she didn't run. She smiled and moved her fingers in rhythm shifting the fire from tip of one finger to the other.

"Tara, that's a good start. But you need to use your palm to control it. Guruji walked to her and stretched her hand said, "Concentrate and feel the fire on your palm. She did as instructed and soon she found a small fire globe over her palm. The more she concentrated the more the globe of fire increased in intensity. Remembering some movements from her book, she brought her palms together and joined the magic of both and shot the now magnified fireball out of the boundary of the cottage which landed on a tree and burnt it to ashes.

Mrityunjay and Guruji both looked at the ashes in astonishment. Tara was amazed with her power. She turned towards Guruji to ask him whether she was doing it right and found him smiling. He said, "You are getting it quite fast, faster than I have thought. Now you should rest. He walked inside the cottage.

Mrityunjay came to Tara and hugged her tightly and kissed her on the lips. "I never knew that you are so full of fire, he winked.

Tara elbowed him in his stomach and giggled. "Playing with fire? she asked raising her eyebrow.

"No. I live with fire, he said and kissed her passionately on her lips leaving both of them breathless.

After dinner, sleeping arrangements were made. Tara was sleeping in Mrityunjay's room and Guruji in his room. Mrityunjay was sleeping on the machan. Tara was trying to sleep but each time she closed her eyes, she remembered last night's events. Mrityunjay's kisses, his hands on her, and the feel of his breath on her skin. She tried to hide her face in the pillow but it made her situation worse. The pillow smelt of Mrityunjay. She was frustrated by this and got out of bed and walked out of the room.

She climbed on the machan and saw Mrityunjay sleeping. She smiled and walked towards him. He opened his eyes and smiled.

"You are also not able to sleep? he asked offering his hand to her.
She smiled and took his hand. He pulled her towards him and she landed on him. He kissed on her forehead.

She sighed in content and said, "Now I can sleep.
Mrityunjay tucked her under his chin and held her in his embrace. Soon both slept.
