One Shot- || One Summer Evening's Dusk ||
He perched on the bench around an old tree, in the lonely corner of the park. As much as he tried to understand his family he failed. In one moment he would take a sigh of relief - everything was fine! The very next moment would witness his sigh of anxiety. Health had been bad. No matter how much he tried to not think about it all, he found himself yet again going back there. There wasn't one thing there were many to worry about. That was exactly what doctor told him - Not To Worry! How was that even possible? Living a mortal life meant thinking about various things. The world wasn't a fairytale land. There were no angels but people with masked faces about the place than how should he not worry?
Another man came by and settled himself on the same bench slightly away, having view at a different angle. He smiled at the man already sitting there his smile wasn't responded to. Perhaps the man was to engrossed in his thoughts. He smiled looking at the multicolored sky. "Beautiful dusk isn't it?" He spoke aloud hoping to get the man's attention.
The slightly taller man now looked up to see the new occupant of the bench. He hadn't registered the man's words. "You said something?" He asked.
The man looked up at him nodding a yes. "Troubled?" He asked.
The indeed troubled man nodded in a no.
The man simply smiled.
"How does the sky look?" The new occupant of the bench asked.
The former looked up and blankly said-"Dark! As it is supposed to look."
The other man smiled. "It's still beautiful isn't it?"
"Things are beautiful when it's beautiful inside, not when its all messed up on the inside. Just like a family portraitmight look good to an outsider but the insider knows the ugly side - the inside!"
The other man nodded. "See that tree over there?" He said pointing to an old tree bounded by climbers, that made it look creepy, shabby and ugly.
"Yeah, it looks ill-favored !" Replied the former.
"Can you make it look beautiful?"
The former looked at the latter in amazement. Did he have to less to worry about already? Here was this man talking about making the tree look good. Must have had a crazy day. He said, "Yeah!"
"How?" He was asked.
The man was taken aback at that. "I would cut off the climbers maybe." He replied looking at the tree.
"That's it?"
This was getting irritating. "Maybe get the climbers cleared from the surrounding as well."
"And the tree will look better?"
Seemed like his companion was a tree lover. "Perhaps grow grass around! Of that is possible! It would take efforts but it would be lovely and lively to look at the tree then. "
"There you go! The answers you were finding are with you. Climbers to that tree are like worries to us. They make us look all ugly. You must not just cut them but also clear them off. When they are cleared the open space will make you think creatively to solve problems. Same is with families. They are like trees. The climbers will grow, we must trim them time to time and find time to make the efforts to make them look beautiful. They are already beautiful, justthe image around has to be changed from time to time!" He got up, smiling. Tapping on the other man's firm broad shoulder he bid him goodbye. "Don't carry problems on shoulder, keep them to your hands level, that's their right place!" He walked away.
A tear dropped from his eye as he looked at the retreating figure of the man. The man he respected, loved and cared for. The man who meant the world to him. Stepping into his shoes wasn't an easy task. But the man deserved a life other than what he had lead so far. His boon had been a blessing in disguise to him and he wouldn't snatch it, for the sake of himself. Wiping that tear he smiled. No matter what he would always be there for him. If not as a family member, as a friend for sure. He pushed behind his long locks as he realised how much of roles reversal had happened!
Perhaps some things are best when they are accepted as they are. Be it Alzheimer's disease or simple dusk one summer evening.
