While making this plan, Abhay and his sister had one plan. It was to hurt and humiliate Diya. Make sure she has no face in the society.

I see a few problems with this plan.

They have not really understood what Diya has become in all these years.

In real life, even in villages, they will loose the social sympathy which they received when Diya left.

Diya at least had a good and noble reason to leave, while they are being petty, vindictive and selfish.

It is true that women with broken marriages are treated badly by society but the kind of social circle they are from, what are the odds someone else will be ready to make an alliance with them.

No girl's father will trust them. It is not just girl but her whole family is dishonoured by them. And what they did will be considered not Kshtra dharma. They back stabbed.

And the worse blow to their plans is the Ace up Diya's sleeve which no one (even herself) knows of. Ratan!

I do not think Abhay and his sister accounted for Ratan stepping up to marry Diya as they dismissed him as a 21 year old kid who is just being enthusiastic about this wedding.

I still believe Abhay will come along with his sister that too in dress which he wears in day to day life thus shocking everyone and after that he will start abusing diya and pointing figures at diya's character and thus initiating strong impulsive reaction from ratan and then DIRA marriage will happen.

I am sure the news that Diya and Ratan faked an engagement must have reached her parents, but it was be easily dismissed for a tactic to catch the culprit but Diya staying in his room IS a big deal and I do not think her parents or anyone else apart from the Thakur family knows this.

And thanks to Sakshi's baai sa's lack of filter, Abhay knows it too. That will be a big deal even in most urban settings forget a conservative rural one.

I think i choose wrong sentence and you framed it right.

His having an issue is justified as Sakshi bai sa insinuated that they were in a live-in relationship (which means something different than just sharing an accommodation) and not that they were just sharing a room.

Diya (interestingly enough) is rather stoic about things in life and never bothered much about accidental (or fake) marriage rituals or such living arrangement.

It seems Ratan might have lived in a liberated place (while to be honest, Brits are the prudes of the European continent), but it is Diya who is more so in her thoughts and behaviour both.
