Diya - Breaking stereotypes

One of the reasons, I liked and continued watching the serials was because Diya was breaking a few stereotypes which we associate with women in general and are exaggerated in ITV female leads.

Diya is 30, single, focussed, sharp, woman who is also working in a high profile job. She is good at giving as good as she gets. She can not cook.

She is stoic in her behaviour. She has dealt with a lot of negativity from outsiders as well as from her family members. And still she does not break down all the time. She is tough as nail.

She has no qualms with being friendly with opposite gender. She is very close friends with three guys and is unapologetic about it.

She does not treat accidental wedding rituals as real and treats it as a joke. She does not start hyperventilating every time a guy is within a ten feet distance. Even Abhay sa.

She is not jealous or insecure.

So far it is an interesting character. She is taking life as it is, one day at a time.

right!! this character represents a strong headed woman who knows what she is serving in the plate.. she stands on her opinion and knows to value herself...
many characters though good in the starting start turning into something typical at the end... hope this remains same and keep giving us some goals..
afterall we love our Angry young woman for a change

And the best bit is she is not one of those supposedly feisty female leads who are angry without reason and are not standing up for themselves when needed.

This one has her head on shoulder. I liked how she left that chunari when she realized that Ratan was overwhelmed and she did not want to disturb him. She did no big deal about leaving that chunari and going to her room.

Point to note is that she does not use that chunar as a small cloth which covers nothing except a small strip of her neck like most heroines. She actually wears it as they are worn on legenga. And these same heroines start behaving coyly when that useless piece of chunari is stuck somewhere.

My thoughts exactly! Diya's strength is so clearly depicted in everything she does, and she never plays the victim. It's very refreshing to see such a character. Of all the Indian shows I've seen, her character is the one I have most related to. She faces her challenges head-on, doesn't constantly cry into her pillows when someone says something mean or things don't go her way, and, most importantly, is not immediately entranced/flustered by every man she meets 😆 !

True... A character that has many similarities with the current working women...
I loved the scene where she burns the roti and Yash eats it to give her confidence. The comradeship between the 2 is awesome to watch.

What makes me blink is Diya wearing high heels shoes when she does all her stunts.
