Hyderabad, January 19: The controversy around Bollywood film Padmaavat is refusing to die down. This time, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has called the upcoming controversial movie as bakwas' (waste) and urged Muslims not to watch the film. "The film is a bakwas. Do not waste your time by watching the film. It incidentally is based on a story written by a Muslim writer, Owaisi said while addressing a public meeting in Warangal city as part of the all-India campaign on Save Sharia'.
According to a report in Times of India, Owaisi described Padmaavat a manhoos' (curse-ridden) and ghaleez' (bad) film. "Do not run after it. Do not watch it. God has not created you to watch this two-hour film. God created you to lead a good life and do good things that should be remembered for centuries, he said. Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Owaisi said the former had set up a 12-member panel to review the bakwas' film and suggest cuts. "But when it comes to the Muslim law (triple talaq issue), the Prime Minister did not bother to consult Muslim leaders, he said.
Asking Muslims to learn from the Rajputs, Owaisi said, "They are showing a mirror to us. They have stood united on the issue and they do not want the movie to be screened. But Muslims are divided. They do not raise their voice when attempts are made to change the Islamic law.
Despite the Supreme Court order to stay the ban on the release of the film on January 25, members of the Rajput community in Raipur have threatened to burnt down the cinema halls that would screen upcoming film Padmaavat. They have submitted a memorandum to Chhattisgarh Home Minister Ramsewak Paikra demanding a ban on the release of Padmaavat in the state. "Cinema halls screening the film would be burnt down. No changes hereafter are acceptable. We want a complete ban. This is our last warning and consequences will have to be faced if it is not adhered to. Maharani Padmavati is the symbol of our pride, a member had said.
The film is based on the saga of the historic battle of 13th century between Maharaja Ratan Singh and his army of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi.
The set of the movie was vandalised twice in Jaipur and Kolhapur, while its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was roughed up by members of Karni Sena in 2017. The movie was originally slated to be released on December 1, 2017.
