"Just 5 more minutes Ma" Avni groaned, shielding her eyes from the streams of light now in her room. "Not 5 more minutes, you're going to be late, its 8am"
Avni jumped up "Shit"
"Language" Neela scolded

Avni jumped up and got ready as fast as she could
"Avni breakfast" a slam of the door notified Neela that Avni had already gone
"First day and I am going to be late" she commented, jumping in her car

Avni pushed her foot down but pressed the breaks harshly as the light turned red
"f**k" she groaned, slamming her hands on the steering wheel
"Come on, come on"
Pushing her head out the window "Its green move"

Rolling her eyes she blew air out of her mouth and then swerved past the car.
Neil was nodding his head to his music, his hands drumming on his steering wheel
"Did that woman just cut me off"
He raised his brow and put his foot down

Avni sighed at yet another red light, she was late, sooo late.
Neil pushed his breaks down but came crashing into Avni's car
Avni jolted forward, her eyes widening
Pushing her car door open she coughed, waving the smoke out of her face

"Cant you see, are you blind" she shouted at Neil who was turned away from her
He turned to face her, a smirk residing on his lips
He lowered his tone "Can't you see, are you blind" he copied her
Avni scowled at him

"I have to get to work and you think this is funny, grow up"
He waved his hand nonchalantly "Oh your insurance will pay for it, calm down"
"You cant be being serious right now, not everything is a joke"

He stepped forward "Have you ever smiled, because it may make you not so highly strung"
"Excuse me" she fumed
"Well you know, smile, some guy will find you attractive and you'll get laid, thats clearly what you need hm, to help you relax"

Avni gasped, raising her hand she slapped Neil across the face "Prick"
He laughed "Anyway my ride is here, want a lift"
How could this guy be so chill about this?
"I'd rather eat pickles" she spat

"Im taking it you dont like pickles"
"Go figure" swinging her hair over her shoulder, she turned and sat back in her car
Shaking her head, this morning had been the worst

Finally arriving at work in her broken car, she parked it and ran towards the lift
Pressing the button continuously she led back against the wall as the doors began to close
A hand stopped them making Avni swear under her breath
Neil walked in

"So we meet again, you the new girl"
Avni closed her eyes, inhaled, exhaled and turned away
"Oooh silent treatment I like it"
Gritting her teeth she stepped out at her floor

Not realising Neil stepped out with her
"Youre late" a woman walked over to her
"Youre lucky the boss was to, anyway this is Neil Khanna, your boss"
Avni turned around to face Neil
Her jaw dropped

"Hes my boss" she stuttered
Neil could not wipe the grin off of his face, stroking his stubble he looked down and let out a laugh

Avni looked around "Me" she mouthed pointing to herself
He nodded "Who else"
She gulped but followed him into his office

"Good job Avni, insult and slap your boss, be late, god when will you ever learn"
"Thats the first sign of madness" he quipped
"What is" she fretted
"Talking to yourself"
Avni gave him a tight smile in return and sat down opposite him

"So, pickles hmm"
Avni blushed "Did you really call me in here to talk about pickles"
He nodded "Its the thing you hate less than me, gotta know why"
"Well I, I was mad this morning and I woke up late, then I missed breakfast, I am so hungry its just, then you crashed into my car and the universe is never on my side and thinking about this logically it wasnt my fault because I heard today that"

Neil raised his brow making her pause
"And breathe, do you ever do that"
"Do what"
"Breathe" he questioned
"This isnt a lamaze class don't tell me what to do"
"Oh Avni, it is Avni isnt it" she nodded
"You need to learn to stop being so defensive, otherwise this whole PA business is not going to work, I make a lot of jokes and am very sarcastic, you wont cope well if you get offended with everything I say"

"Well if you weren't so rude" she muttered under her breath
"I heard that, you know I would fire you if you didnt interest me as much as you do"
"No, dont do that I really need this job, see I will be on my best behaviour" she saluted him making him grin again

"I like my PA's to be a little bit nice but a little bit naughty too" he winked, making gestures with his fingers
"What is that meant to mean, look here mister I dont know what expectation you have from me as your personal assistant but if you think I am coming anywhere near you without some kind of weapon in my hands you're wrong"

Neil laid back on his chair "Feisty little firecracker you are, aren't you"
"No, you just think you can treat women like pieces of meat"
"Avni, I was kidding"
Crossing her arms she looked away from him, her chin held high

"I need you to do some research on our rival company and get back to me in 90 minutes max"
She nodded and walked out
Neil picked up his phone "Yeah can I order lunch for my PA"
"Yes sir, what can I get her"
Neil answered then cut the phone off chuckling to himself

Avni looked up at a woman holding a plate with tinfoil over it
"Courtesy of the boss"
Avni took the foil off, to see pickle sandwiches
Pursuing her lips she stood up

Neil was going to pay for this

Avni stormed into Neil's office, "Neil where are you"
She hadn't seen him leave so where was she?
A masculine giggle from the room made her look down, bending down she saw Neil smile at her from beneath the table
"Should I even ask why you're down there"

Neil slid out, "watch your" a loud thump made Neil bite his tounge "head" Avni advised
"Well I heard a knock on the door and I dropped my pen so I had to go get it, then I was thinking if someone was to come at me with a knife it would be a good place to hide"
Avni's face turned into a look of disapproval "Why would anyone come at you with a knife"

"You said you wouldnt come near me unless you had a weapon in your hand, I had to be prepared"
Avni shook her head in distaste
"Whats with these damn pickle sandwiches"
"You said you were hungry, unless you meant the other kind of hungry"

Avni scowled again, grabbed a sandwich and shoved it into his mouth making Neil cough and then choke
"Jesus Avni, just because you dont want it, doesnt mean I do"
Neil raised his hand, scratching above her lip

"What are you doing"
"Shush im trying to get it off" he poked his tounge out in concentration
Clearing her throat she grabbed his wrist
"Its a freckle, you cant just scratch it off"
Neil scratched the back of his neck "Oh, thought it was chocolate"

Avni distinctly wondered how this immature boy had become a leading CEO of his own job
"I have a meeting in 10 minutes and now I have pickle breath"
"Serves you right, oh also I worked out how much money you owe me for my car"
"Im not paying you money for your car Avni, im your boss"
"So what has that got to do with this"

"Nothing but I am not paying it"
Then he stopped, smirked and nodded
"Actually I will pay, just email me prices"
"What have you got up your sleeve"
He tapped his nose and pointed to the door


She turned to walk away, Neil slapped her backside making her jump and let out a squeal
She turned to admonish him but the door was already shut in her face
"Idiot"

She ran to check her email and send him an email back
Neil walked out of his office, brows furrowed looking down at his phone

It seemed Avni would have to wait for a reply

Avni: Call it 500
Neil: Sending 500 pickles to your home address as we speak
Avni: 500 pounds, idiot! Whats your obsession with pickles

Neil smiled at his phone while trying to listen to what the man infront of him was saying

Neil: Actually, you said you would rather eat pickles then sit in my car, im just being a good boss, looking after my employees
Avni: Youre in a meeting, focus or your associates may see how immature you really are, then what would happen to that shiny gold image of yours

Neil: Is that a threat?
Avni: Its a promise if you send me or even talk about pickles again
Neil: What about typing it

Neil nodded at the man infront of him "Yeah, good idea"

He looked up at Avni knocking on the door and beckoned her in
"Sir, about the pickles you ordered, I have had the 500 sent to your home address, with some extra gum, because you know"

Neil raised his brow, Avni sure wanted to play, and clearly wasnt one to take lightly
"Will that be all" he asked
She nodded and shut the door walking away

Neil continued with his meeting
Avni logged off, placing the necessary papers on his desk
It had been a long gruelling first day at work, and she hated Neil more than ever after his consistent antics throughout the day

Avni walked down the stairs rather than taking the lift to stretch her legs, she was shocked to see her car fixed, a note on her windscreen
"Fixed for your journey tomorrow, dont be late"

Avni took the note off and sat in her car, reversing, she turned the car, when a car arrived next to her
"Good work today"
Avni nodded at Neil

She drove away, jumping straight into bed she allowed herself to sleep
It was 3am when her phone buzzed
"Hi, its Neil"
"Why are you calling me at this time" she groaned, sitting up

"I need you to look some stuff up for me"
"Cant I do it tomorrow" she wined
"No, so what I need you to do is find thr documents on the merger and make the necessary edits stated in the email I sent you"

Avni's dog jumped up, licking her face
"Romeo, stop I need to, stop"
"Oh, im sorry, didnt meant to disturb your late night love making sessions"
Avni bit her lip confused

"What are you on about"
The phone cut off leaving Avni tired and annoyed


The next morning, Avni arrived on time
Slumping into his office she slammed the papers down
"All done Sir" he nodded, without looking up
"Carry all those boxes down to the cellar please"

She rolled her eyes but did as he said
She hadnt slept all night and felt terrible
The boxes were way to heavy
"Isnt there some clause that says you shouldnt lift things if you cant"
"Maybe you'd have more energy if you didnt waste it on the wrong things such as late night endeavours with Romeo" he bit back

She shrugged, maybe he didnt like dogs?
Lifting the boxes one at a time she took them down to the cellar
Her back ached and she couldn't see properly by the time she got to the last one

Neil finally looked up at her
"Did you not sleep last night"
"Nope"
She picked up the last box and walked out
Confused by his irrational behaviour and how quickly he went from hot to cold

Avni finally could return to her desk, when Neil called her back into his office "Look through those papers and make sure theres only 2 copies of each"
"Can I get a glass of water first"
"As soon as you have a break you can do what you like, but for now, you're working"
"Whats got your knickers in a twist" she rebuffed


Avni dropped the papers to the floor, her head was spinning
Neil stood up immediatley
"Avni, sit down, here drink some water"
She glugged it down graciously then pulled away

"Thanks ill be fine now"
"Shouldnt you atleast sit"
"In my own time when I have a break, bosses orders"
Picking up the papers she stormed out
