Agreed! Also I didn't find the leads gorgeous. Both looked average at best, especially that female lead, people rave of her "beauty" as if she is some aishwariya rai .😳

Khushi was subjected to domestic violence including physical violence. How is it any different then husbands abusing their wives? I am surprised that showing cigarette smoking is banned but these shows are not banned.

What brought about this concern whole 6 years later?

Anyway I'm a fan and am unapologetic about loving it specially before the much anticipated redemption went for a toss. Do I wish there was better redemption and making up to the girl done? Oh yah but then it was due to external reasons that never happened to any fan's satisfaction. But if I go in this vein I'm digressing cz it's done and over now and can't be changed.

Most shows in tv r regressive. They can't stretch them to infinity by sitting on morally righteous path I guess.

IPK was loved by a generation of youngsters/working women (the main demography of its viewers transcending continents and language barriers) cz it had two gorgeous leads who had sizzling chemistry and for the first 8 months a fantastic writing for every character. Anyway it's as simple as you didn't watch it when we did and it was the craze it was, so be as judgmental as you want but we aren't answerable for loving it.
It's a part of my years as a student I loved and will always love.

Now the topic is relevant for discussion. It does not matter whether the show is a 6 years old.Manhandling, abuse is promoted as romance. That is the crux of the matter.

Lol what kind of justification is this? 😆 That means we aren't to blame the audience for the regressive content served? So we should respect any regressive content shown on TV because there's an audience? We are critiquing (not insulting) these fans as these fans are indirectly responsible for the regressive content shown on TV as TV producers are producing content to please these fans. If the public started rejecting such content, there would be no more of such regressive content on TV. And we can't just accept such regressive content as solely entertainment as it discounts the influence of such shows on people's mentality. Haven't actors like Aamir Khan apologised for being part of misogynistic movies and promoting stalking etc.? There is a reason because they realised the impact of such movies on societal cultures and beliefs.

Day by day, I feel like we shouldn't blame the illiterate TRP audience for the regressive content as we have enough well- educated girls and women supporting this regressive content. So why blame the illiterate TRP audience alone? At least they have ignorance to blame for their regressive mindset.

People are allowed to watch what they find entertaining and no we do not get to police them on the appropriateness of what they are watching.
I have never watched Game of Thrones because I had heard about the incest in the show, but that does not mean I go around judging people who watch the show.

Just because other shows are regressive as well is not an excuse for IPK's twisted representation of love. IPK is simply a prime example BECAUSE it was so popular and loved. It speaks levels to how the depicted violent perception of love is so ingrained in young, vulnerable minds as epic romance. It's problematic that so many find that show amazing.

Lol, then why did people attempt to ban PPK? And that means people can show all sorts of regressive stuff in TV and movies, and no one should critique them? Criticism is not policing- it is also a form of freedom of expression. Just like appreciation, criticism is the other flip side of the coin. And yes, criticism is very much needed or else there will be no progress in Indian TV and movies.

Though i agree ipk had regressive content what appalled me the most is nobody talks about hypocrisy of yeh rishta si called positive show where whatever female lead does is hailed and called women empowerment but whatever other females in the same show do which actually falls under empowerment is namecalled .
Then i realised everywhere female leads have teen fans who justify her deeds no matter what.
That way i like ipk fans that they did not exactly support everything that khushi did. Atleast my friends who were fans of arshi did not like khusho being submissive.
