AAnkhon ki Gustakhiyaan - Season IV - The Wedding
Part 6
Gauri was very moved, with Omkara's gesture in the sangeet ceremony. She knew that he was a very private person specially when it came to matters of love, not one to bare his heart before strangers, and yet he did that for her, since she was upset. By this one action, he had paid for all the teasing and ministrations he did during previous rituals. More than the physical proximity, she was vary of embarrassment, she had accepted the fact that she wanted him as much as he wanted her, now. She was ready; in fact she was eager to take their relationship to the next level. If she was being honest, she was feeling aroused quite a lot these days and unable to control her emotions when he was around, so he was not the only one to blame.
Last night the two lovers had slept in their separate rooms, complying with Daadi's wishes, also because they wanted to feel the distance, their last night away from each other so they would cherish being together later even more. One practical reason was they had to get up really early the next morning for their haldi function, which they both were looking forward to.
She had seen many weddings in Bareilly, where the bride was covered with turmeric paste by her family; it was part of a cleansing and beautifying process, getting her ready for the grandest day of her life. Omkara was happy because Gauri was happy. She woke up, this was not just a new day, it was going to be the most important day of her life, so far. It was her wedding day, to her Jatadhari Hippie, her Nandi Bail, her Om. She got ready for the function. She was wearing a white saree with yellow border and minimal make-up. Omkara wore a white kurta and churidar with his half pony.
They both walked out of their respective rooms that were adjacent to each other and connected by a small door in between, which was forgotten about already and hardly used. The haldi function was organised by the poolside. Bride to the right and groom to the left, separated by a white dupatta in between. The moment they were seated, Omkara was keen to have a look at his chiraiyaa and pulled the dupatta partition down a bit to get a sneak peek; she saw him looking, smiled and took his hand in hers from under the dupatta. He was surprised at this bold move, whilst still recovering from the sight before him. Gauri dressed in white and yellow saree, hair pinned up, adorned in white jasmine jewels that hung from her ears and neck.
The function started with Daadi putting haldi on Omkara's cheeks on either side and then she did the same for Gauri. Each member of the Oberoi clan repeated the same procedure, sometimes applying haldi to different parts of their body just for fun. Rudy was especially having fun applying haldi to Omkara Ab aaya ooth pahad ke niche' he said. Dekha bhaiyaa, humare saath holi nahin khelta O, ab haldi kaise chup chap laga raha hain' Omkara was glaring at him with murderous intent and Rudy took full opportunity of covering his nose, forehead, wherever he could see skin with haldi.
Gauri was enjoying the ceremony but she was afraid her Jatadhari might be finding it a bit annoying. He didn't like people touching him that much and that too applying haldi paste on him! She had learned from Rudra that he hardly played holi with the family for this reason. She remembered Rudy's bday when she covered his face with cake; he was annoyed but bore it bravely. She was thankful to him for complying with the ritual even though it made him uncomfortable. By the time it was over, their cheeks, forehead, nose, hands, palms and feet were covered with haldi.
Chalo, ab ja ke nahan lo tum dono' Jhanvi declared the function complete.
Gauri and Omkara got up from either side of the dupatta and walked to their respective rooms. But Omkara was hoping for another glimpse of his chiraiyya in that beautiful saree and jewellery, he was not ready to let go yet. So he sneaked into their room from the adjacent room, although the two feet rule was no longer valid, he didn't want to cause embarrassment to Gauri. She was just getting ready with her towel to go into the washroom, the door was shut from inside, it was perfect! She wasn't surprised at all, as if she was expecting him. He walked to her, held her hand and pulled her towards him and hugged her. I missed you' he said. I missed you too' she replied.
Although other people were applying haldi to them all this while during the ceremony, all they were aware of was each other, in such close proximity, separated by a thin veil. It was too much for them. He turned her around and ran his cheeks on her back, adorning it with haldi in the process, she flinched. At the same time, his hand was doing the same to her stomach. Every exposed part of her skin was now covered in haldi. When he was satisfied with the result, he picked her up and walked to the washroom. She wrapped herself around him, filling the gaps.
He made her stand under the shower, switched the water on, she was getting drenched, he watched. She couldn't take it anymore, his eyes on her; she pulled him towards her such that he was under the shower too, getting drenched with her. He rubbed his cheek with hers, making her shiver. He then turned her around, her back visible to him, only interference was the dori and clasp. He pulled the strings and then rubbed the haldi off her back gently, one that he had just applied. His touch was like fire for her, it burnt her, sending flames of desire sparking through her body. He then kissed her on the back, from where he had just rubbed the haldi off, trying to quench that flame in her, only to spark it further when she could take no more. She turned around and hugged him tight, very tight. They were on fire, under a cold jet shower.
His kurta now completely wet, stuck to him like second skin, all translucent and her saree was in the same state. They were hugging each other, melting away, their breaths heavy, their heartbeats out of control, their legs shivering, trying to ride this wave of desire off. She rubbed the haldi off his chest which had come rubbed off her face, and he felt like he would combust there and then with her touch, under the water. He knew he had to leave, now, lest it will be impossible to control this fire, it might turn into an uncontrollable rage. She was looking so beautiful, wet hair; water trickling down her face, the aroma of jasmine jewellery on her was intoxicating him, the drenched saree, he just couldn't take it anymore.
Boon boond karke mujhme girna tera
Aur mujhme mujhse zyada hona tera
Bheega bheega sa mujhko tan tera lage
Aaja tujhko pee loo mann mera kahe
Main na bacha, mujhme thoda sa bhi
Dekh tu na bacha tujh me bhi
Jalne laga garm sanson se main
Tu pighalne laga mujh mein hi...
Ri'. hmm' I should leave' hmm'
He spoke the words with difficulty, but she was not in the state to even reply legibly, she was still trying to fathom what was going on with her body which refused to comply with her mind now. He was like a God, standing before her, wet hair, wet kurta, holding her in his embrace and she was feeling so drawn to him that she couldn't let him go, not yet. He took her mouth in his and kissed her passionately, their tongues playing with each other, they were drinking each other with the water trickling down the shower. They parted, panting; he took her shoulders and pushed her to the wall as support, gave her one last look and walked out pulling a towel. She stood there for a while, gathering her nerves, glad that today was their formal wedding, finally.
The afternoon went very quickly, after the shower, both Gauri and Omkara were fed a lot, lest they don't get time after the wedding rituals start. Then the salon team arrived and Gauri was surrounded with people going mad around her. Anika and Bhavya were running to and fro fetching missing things, Jhanvi Ma and Gauri's mom were fussing over her dress and jewellery, and they wanted everything to be perfect, just perfect. Gauri felt like the entire jewellery shop was on her by the time they were done with her. Daadi came with another nazar flame and ran it around Gauri. She then put her hands on Gauri's cheeks, gave her an air kiss Itni soni lag rahi hain, shabd nahin hain mere pass. Main itni khush hu puttar, bahut khush kar ditta puttar' She was on ninth heaven.
Omkara was in his room getting ready, with his bros by his side.
O, kaisa lag raha hain? You were never up for marriage. Any last minute doubts?' Rudy always enjoyed pulling his brother's legs. Shivaay gave him a warning look, whilst adjusting Omkara's turban.
Rudy, I feel good. In fact I feel happy. I can't wait Omkara quipped.
Can't wait! Woh toh hum jaante hi hain, kya kya gul khilaye hain aapne,' Rudy teased
Shut up Rudy' ShivKara shouted in unison. When Daadi entered, they were all laughing together, it made her happy. She did Omkara's nazar, Thank you puttar, mujhe ye khushi dene ke liye' She gave him an air kiss and he hugged her. ShivRu came and completed the hug,' Lafzon kay eh rishta nahin...'
The mandap was ready, OM decorated like never before, but as per Gauri's taste. With flowers and candles and drapes, it looked beautiful. The marriage rituals were to be attended only by family and close friends, media was not allowed. The holi fire was lit and the pandit started chanting mantras.
They were a regal pair, walking down the stairs on either side. Both wore matching ensembles.
Black, white and gold.
