The void has yet not spoken
Tears lie suspended,
Smiles and eyes do not speak to each other
Existence which cannot be defined.
A narrative which gets heard is often
Not the whole story.
What gets told and repeated
Is merely an acceptable story.
Solid and material world
Are not contrary to the immaterial and intangible
But
a mere perspective.
Truth resides.
In music unheard
In screams not voiced
In happiness that cannot be exchanged.
The story of love and despair
Is a truth shrouded in darkness
Where memory is its only home.
The void
Reveals the deception
The lie
Which surrounds our superficial vision.
Hello All
This is a post about abyss, the nothingness that surrounds a name literally. The silence that reverberates around a ghostly incarnation. Who is he? What does he seek? And why? A good or a evil, malicious figure? As of now what do we know about this creature? The answer is nothing. Posts being written on the forum have shifted their allegiance from Vyom to this unnamed figure and back. If we call him as Shiv, its only because the actor (Namik Paul) playing this ghost has said it so. Not because he has been formally introduced through the actions or words of people. Often, the posts discuss on the moral value of these characters' actions. Like, Vyom loves her unconditionally and hence his actions howsoever strange are acceptable. And this applies to the ghost as well. But, what do we really know about this ghost? That he frequents a girl's bedroom and yet strangely enough the next day the girl isn't concerned about the same. That he led to Vyom's accident and yet, his powers are way too limited. All that we know is that he remains entangled in darkness, an abyss that refuses to fill and complete the gaps.
So, how did he enter the narrative? And here, comes the twist.
Its Sharanya who first claims that though she doesn't feel anything for Vyom (memory loss?) but she does feel or experience the presence of that blackness which pervades everywhere in relation to this ghostly figure (definitely not memory lossđ). Its she who feels the icy cold wind, its she who smells the stargazers everywhere. None does. Why? Vyom who shouts and sings about his love everywhere cant seem to reach out to Sharanya beyond the fragile bonds of friendship. She feels concerned that few untoward incidents are happening which have also affected his physical well-being. Yet, despite this concern what she really feels is a darkness that illuminates her loneliness. Perhaps, its simply the 'Loneliness that resides in our very fabric of being'.
The very existence of this ghost is obliterated in time and space. He is the song that is still unsung, the shout which is transformed into a whisper. The whisper that fades before it's heard. Yet, this darkness, this void surmounts all the material narratives.
Last, Friday's episode at the bus stop was a fine piece of direction. Sharanya standing at the bus stop or at the crossroads of life is seemingly alone. And yet, this 'alone' refuses to leave her side. As if they are friends for life.đ Bus stop which suggests movement also, suggests the interface of past and present, of life and death, of present and absent narratives.
Ghost though invisible is more visible and keenly felt by Sharanya...
"The unknown is often the other side of the known" as Rosemary Jackson said it. TS Eliot wrote "What might have been and what has been/Point to one end which is always present.
This ghost doesn't yet have a name, an identity, a family to which he can belong to, an anchor from which he can draw support. He might be a long forgotten memory, or a troublesome/violent/bitter dream yet one needs to follow this dead trail or this unheard scream to lead to freedom and beauty that characterises love. He is the one who is eliminated from any known markers of material life. And yet, he looms large over any narrative (quite literally đ). This story as I see it is poised to brighten the emptiness of Sharanya so as to give meaning to her life. Shiv is the void, the darkness that stands at this interface of life and death, love and hate, joy and despair to create a new future...
As much as it is a simple story, its also about the unknown being so much a part of the known. This piece is an attempt to give a voice to all those invisible, unheard of musings in our life. Cheers to Shiv for telling us that all which is known and said in this world is not the complete pictuređ
