Kisi ne jawaab nahi diya... Didn't credence die in the first one??

Is this one prequel to that? Doesn't look like it though..

I'd have liked Benedict too. Think Jude Law's goody-good goofiness is why he was chosen because remember, Dumbledore doesn't look intimidating at all. In the Harry Potter series, it wasn't until the fourth book--the scene between Barty Crouch Jnr. and Harry--that Harry notices how menacing Dumbledore could look when he turned it on.

Although their features don't match, Benedict would make a better (older) Snape than a Dumbledore. Hypothetical of course.

Dumbledore has always been on the timid side and that's why many underestimate it, save for a few like Voldemort, Snape, and the Order members. Jude Law can bring that timidity more than Benedict Cumberbatch. This is also a phase where he's avoiding contact/encounter with Grindelwald. He still doesn't have it in him to face him.

Will be interesting to see how they plot their way to the final duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. There will be five movies. I'm assuming Grindelwald and Dumbledore will clash at the end of the fourth movie and movie five will be about Voldemort/Vold War One - until his downfall at Godric's Hollow.

The clash between Dumbledore and Grindelwald takes place in 1945 - the same year Tom Riddle passed out from Hogwarts. I think they'll look into Tom's evolution through the seven years too, so the Chamber of Secrets and horcrux-making would have to feature predominantly.

A tiny bit of the obscurus escapes. So he's pretty much alive. Perhaps with a new dynamic? We'll have to see.

^^I actually don't agree. It's made extremely clear in the series that it's only Harry who doesn't see the intimidating, menacing side to his aura because everyone else most definitely saw it!! He had restrained power & I can definitely see that seeping through. Since the series is through HP's eyes, who tbh is one of the most oblivious people you can meet, and he also was too burdened with, well, keeping himself alive to pay attention to all this; but many references have been made as to how intimidating Dumbledore was. Isn't his phase of his life, what with his deep love for Grindy, love deep enough to obsessively avoid him & put-off their Epic Battle, his power & intimidation might not be seen but he MOST definitely was massively intimidating because he basically played God. I would say in ways he was more intimidating than Voldemort!

Dumbledore could turn it on. Through the books, we see him as a twinkly personality, with a grandfatherly charm. That's how he was with Harry and most of the students. From Goblet onward, Harry notices Dumbledore's mean streak and so do we. It's not if everyone else saw it. It's how Harry failed to see it because Dumbledore acted differently with each individual. Unlike Voldemort's second-coming.

It's quite interesting that - even in his school years - Tom Riddle actually saw Dumbledore for what he was--a menacing, intimidating force. Even Bellatrix dismisses Dumbledore. Apart from the Order members, in fact, most seem to underestimate Dumbledore.

Yes, Dumbledore was very intimidating. As much as Voldemort. The difference is Dumbledore's subtlety. He was a Machiavellian character. He could flatter, he could threaten, he could manipulative. Voldemort's second-coming, in contrast, was intimidating in a brute, physical way. You *knew* you'd be dead if you committed the slight mistake. And he looked terrible.

The original Tom Riddle was equally Machiavellian, but never directly intimidating. There's a reason why Dumbledore could never spot one wrong-doing by Tom Riddle in his seven years at Hogwarts. Tom was running riot but it was subtle - almost like how the Basilisk operated.

Nonetheless, I'm digressing.

Dumbledore's mean streak started *after* Grindelwald btw. He was too emotionally volatile to face Grindelwald so throughout this series, I wouldn't expect the ruthless Dumbledore, hence, why Jude Law is an okay choice. However, after Grindelwald and after the beginning of First Vold War, that's when Dumbledore is at his Machiavellian best. Ironically, it's Tom Riddle who brought the worst of Albus. Arguable of course.

^^I said that it makes sense to take Law, yes, but I was only on the point of Dumbly not being intimidating. He was tremendously powerful & extremely intimidating, and even though he tried to put on the kind grandfather look, and he was a lot like that, it's a point to be noted that Rowling mentions how EVERY student was fantastically intimidated of him. "Gulped in his presence, was stunned by Dumbledore talking to him/her" make regular enough occurrences. Rowling herself has mentioned how awesomely intimidating Dumbly was even though he went out of his way to make everyone comfortable in his presence- The point is no-one was receptive to that, because they could see/sense/knew just how powerful he was. He was absolutely a
Machiavellian character!! He was the Puppet Master, and Voldy was his Prime Puppet alongwith Harry, for different reasons. Which is why I find him so fascinsting!! He is the only character apart from Hermione, who can be put in any House! I truly believe that Dumbledore could've been greater than Voldemort if he so wished to be. But it was his basic, human goodness & decency that stopped him from doing. I love how we were shown how real, human & flawed he was-- Yet how extremely compassionate, endlessly wise, awesomely witty & GOOD he was-- But make no mistake- He wasn't a figure to be trifled with. And with his twinkly eyes & grandfatherly charm, he made that abundantly clear. Which is why I find him even more scary than Voldemort.

On an aside, am I the only one who picked up on the homosexual subtext between Grindly & Dumbly?? I was like, they f**king write love letters to each other, are completely inseparable, imply that they will travel & live together & Dumbly is "charged" by him! This is a bloody love story! I was so gratified when Rowling said Dumblemore was gay & Grindelwald was his great love story. 😃
