Aankhon ki Gustakhiyan Season II Mumbai Chapter
Part 5
Omkara was in the mischief mood. Yes, he had decided to give Gauri some time to get on the same page as him, but there was nothing stopping him from showing his affection towards her. Was there? Naughty Kara will never go away when it comes to his Gauri. Especially, if she was going to be this amazzziiing person every day, how could he stop himself? He was falling more and more in love with her each day. And today, with the singing and the puja house scene, she had reminded him of old times, she had always been his, since eternity, only he didn't realise that until recently. Damn' he thought,' he will waste not one sec now to show her his love.'
Omkara's flashback:
She was wearing a white kurta and salwar, the one with bell sleeves embroidered in all colours beautiful with a net dupatta, singing in the most soulful voice at the Mata ki chowki' at his house that his mom and Buama had organised. At first, he had no plans to attend the puja, but couldn't stop himself after hearing the bhajans, that voice, it was enchanting, his feet were dragging him in its direction involuntary. It was as if he had no control over himself. And at first, he didn't know it was HER. The girl he hated so much and had married in Bareilly due to circumstances. That day Chulbul was missing somehow and he kept looking for him, but currently all his attention was on the bhajan.
He saw her from behind, she was singing, his mom and Buama next to her, eyes closed, swaying. Later, she offered Prasad to everyone and bowed down to the deity, when accidentally he cut his hand and his blood flew to her maang. He didn't realise then, why she was spreading it further with her hands. He tried to get a sneak peek at her face, but she was trying to hide from him.
The Chowki was over and all ladies were leaving one by one. She also started moving towards the door, almost running to be as far away from him as possible, lest he discovered who she was. But he was also Omkara. He stood in her way, and when she passed him, he gripped her hand, as always. It all felt familiar, her voice, her hand, her scent. Who was she? He couldn't wat to find out? He started lifting her veil, trying to peek into her eyes that were calling to him through the veil. He knew deep inside, it was her, why else was he drawn to this person otherwise, he just wanted confirmation. But the moment his hand lifted the dupatta to unveil her eyes; she caught his arm in protest and shook her head in a no. He stopped; she freed herself and ran, he just watched her leave, not taking his eyes off her for a moment until she disappeared at the horizon.
Her payal was left behind on the floor, which he picked up thinking of giving it to lost property' lest she comes back looking for it. But the payal never made it there; it was safely stored away in his drawer where he kept all his precious items, he himself couldn't explain why he kept it there. It was not even a silver payal, must have costed 100 Rs. but it was in his drawer with precious items and memories. Yes, it was the memory that was invaluable for him and he didn't even know why, at the time.
He had not been able to forget that sight, take it out of his mind, so much so, that he had captured her on the canvas, with the white kurta, colourful bell sleeves and white net dupatta. The painting was exhibited at his exhibition themed Innocence'.
Flashback ends.
Omkara came out of his reverie; even then, his heart was telling him something that he refused to listen. Not anymore, he thought, he will make up for his mistakes. He walked to his personal drawer, looked at the payal and realisation dawned on him, yes it was precious, she was precious, every moment spent with her was precious, she always had been, for his heart. But his mind kept pulling him in the other direction. Not anymore. Not anymore.
It was time to go to the studio, so on his way out he stopped a servant Suno, what time is tea time today?
4:30 pm sir. Gauri M'am will start preparing for it at 3:30' replied the servant knowing full well every question of Omkara Sir's these days was related to Gauri M'am.
Ok, ask all servants to clear out of the kitchen at 4. Ok. Did you get it?' ordered Omkara
Yesss Sir, but how? We help Gauri M'am everyday' pleaded the servant
I don't know, make some bahana, that is your job to think. But if I find anyone there at 4, you know what will happen' quipped Omkara
Yes sir, no sir, yes sir, we will do as you say'. With this the servant ran in the opposite direction.
Kya musibat hain' he thought,' Ek taraf Gauri M'am, dusri taraf Omkara Sir. Kahan phas gaya. Ab kya karun'
He related to all other servants who were on kitchen duty that day during tea time and knowing full well that no excuse would do with Gauri M'am they decided that in order to follow Omkara Sir's orders, they will just have to khisko from there one by one. And the plan was made.
Gauri was in panic. She was already late for the tea prep, today Divya Ma had given her extra homework and she was struggling to finish it, or maybe it was to do with daydreaming about a certain Jatadhari. He will be the death of me' Gauri thought, as she rushed to the kitchen to prepare tea and snacks.
The servants were helping her; today she had decided to make Jhanvi Ma's favourite samosas'. Ma really liked the way Gauri cooked them. The servants had lined up all ingredients for her on the counter. One of them had peeled and boiled the potatoes and another had prepared the chutney. They had started early that day, as they knew they had to khisko from there by 4, as per orders. Gauri was engrossed in kneading the flour for the samosas, when she ordered Kishen, zara aur paani lao' .
Needless to mention, all servants had disappeared by now. Omkara stood at the kitchen entrance admiring his Gauri from afar. She was wearing a white and light blue sari with a dori blouse and her pallu was tucked in her petticoat, both her hands in the flour she was kneading. He walked up to with a jug of water when she asked Kishen and stood behind her, pouring water into the flour.
She froze. She knew who it was without even looking. His breath was fanning her neck and the hand that held the jug certainly belonged to a mischievous chirota she knew. Before she could gather her nerves to ask him to stop, it was too late. The dough she was kneading was sinking in a pond. She was furious. She turned around Aap'.
Before she could speak any further, Shhh' his finger was on her lips. He held her waist and took out the pallu tucked in her skirt, caressing her in the process. Her breath hitched. He was so close to her, their breaths mingling, he was looking at her as if she was something edible.
Perhaps he is hungry, that's why he was in the kitchen' Gauri thought.
Aapko kuch chahiye tha? She asked meekly, his finger still on her lips.
Haan, tum', he said, and in one sweep he had picked her up and deposited her on the kitchen platform. She was sitting with her legs dangling.
What was Om upto?' But before she could open her mouth again, she saw him kneeling down before her, he picked her right feet and deposited it on his left knee. Then he looked at her, capturing her eyes such that all her powers to think or protest were taken away, all she could think of was looking into those brown pools. He then removed something from his jacket pocket, it was a payal!
Her payal! Which she had lost the day of Mata Chowki. She was stunned, would be an under-statement.
What was the payal doing with him, had he kept it all this while? Why? Thoughts were churning in her head.
He made her wear the payal, bent down and kissed her feet, sending shivers down her entire body, she clutched Omkara's shoulders with her dough-filled hands.
Gauri', he said,' Yes, I had kept it with me, somehow that day I knew it was you who sang in Mata Chowki, it was you who was trying to hide from me, you who I kept getting drawn to but there was a battle raging between my mind and my heart then. I think I had feelings for you even then, that is why I could not handle being close to you, I could not forget that moment, that picture of you in that white kurta, of you running away from me, and so I kept the payal, then I didn't know why. But now I do. Bcoz we were always meant to be, bcoz you are the air to my lungs, bcoz I cannot live without you, you give me so much happiness Gauri, with each passing day'.
He had stood up from his kneeling position and was caressing her cheeks now, just about to lean in, when someone interrupted. It was Jhanvi Ma,' Gauri, are you ready' she entered the kitchen without looking, and what she saw made her ecstatic. Her son, lost in his wife. She quickly excused herself and left.
By this time, Gauri had pushed Omkara aside Look what just happened, how will I show my face to Jhanvi Ma now?' Omkara was smirking, how do I know?' and started walking out of the kitchen.
Gauri was furious with him but at the same time, she had not wanted that beautiful moment to end. Her eyes followed him, and then he turned, Aur haan, since I wasn't going to let you cook samosas today, I have ordered Mom's favourite pastries and Choti Ma's favourite kachoris for tea today, you can serve them that'.
Gauri was relieved and happy at the same time, how thoughtful was her Om? She decided to do something as thoughtful for him in return, to reward him.
Omkara was walking out of the kitchen blushing, he had got his reward - the smile and love on Gauri's face when he made her wear the payal and spoke those words to her.
A third figure in the corner who was watching the two from past 5 mins, was on 7th heaven, it won't be long when I get a chota O' to pamper' he thought. But he couldn't resist teasing his bro, O' why do you have dough on your clothes'? Shut up Rudy' Omkara smirked and walked off. It was time to tease Chul Bhabhi now, so Rudy entered the kitchen. Gauri was trying to gather her nerves washing her hands off the dough; Bhabhi, is tea ready?' quizzed Rudy acting oblivious. He walked next to her, Wait, what do you have on your face' Rudy acted. Gauri had no clue, what had Nandi done now, is there something? She touched her face and gave a questioning look to Rudy. You are red like a tomato' Rudy laughed. Rudy bhaiya' Gauri ran after him actioning to hit him. Chalo , I will help you with tea today' said Rudy, but this was again, his idea to tease her throughout the tea session, which he did, and one other person knew why.
