Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor to head to New York together

Akshay Kumar has been taking us social causes in his recent films and it has been working in favour of the star. After Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, he will be seen in PadMan which is based on Arunachalam Muruganantham's life, the inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas.

Directed by R.Balki, it is wifey Twinkle Khanna's first production and stars Sonam Kapoor in the role of a tabla player and Radhika Apte as Akshay's wife.

According to a leading daily, Akshay and Sonam will be heading to New York for the final schedule of the movie. When we asked Akshay about starring in a movie that deals with the topic of menstruation, the actor stated, "If you change nothing, nothing will change. It's not about being bold, but about breaking taboos that hold us back. I have lived with women all my life, yet I have learnt more about the topic while making this film than ever before. I do not mind who I offend or whose stomach I turn by being bold, this is not the Stone Age; menstruating is natural."

When Twinkle was asked about her role as producer in the film, she replied, "Initially, I thought of making a small movie, but then Akshay and Balki were both excited about the concept. PadMan is my first production, so I can't comment on what it's like to be the producer of an Akshay Kumar-starrer, except that in this movie, the things I normally nag him about, like working too much, turned out to be an asset."

The film will be releasing on Republic Day next year and is sure to leave a mark on the audiences with its strong message.

Sonam Kapoor in R Balki's Padman: Actor takes tabla lessons as part of character building

Recently, Vidya Balan was seen playing a classical instrument in the songs of Srijit Mukherji's upcoming period drama Begum Jaan. Another female actor, Sonam Kapoor will be seen playing the tabla in R Balki's upcoming social drama Padman.

In fact, DNA reports that she has been taking lessons to play the instrument from the 28 year old renowned tabla player and percussionist Mukta Madan Raste for two months now.Kapoor has been taking time out from her busy schedule to visit Mukta at least once a week for tabla lessons. Even while she is traveling, she carries a music book and rehearses on her own.

Interestingly, Mukta will also be seen playing a short role in the film as a sarangi player. She will be seen training Kapoor's character in the film.

Kapoor will join the cast and crew of Padman in Madhya Pradesh this Monday. Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte have been shooting for Padman in Indore for a month now.

Padman is the biopic of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the social entrepreneur who invented low cost sanitary pads, particularly for illiterate or uneducated rural women. Kumar plays Muruganantham's role in the film and Apte plays his wife who leaves his place as soon as she discovers what Muruganantham is up to, since menstruation is a taboo in India.

The story has already been covered by Kumar's wife and actor-turned-columnist Twinkle Khanna in her second book, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. Now, Khanna is all set to open her own production house called Mrs Funnybones Movies, inspired from her pen name and the name of her first book. Padman will be the first film to be produced under her new banner.

The film is also rumoured to star Amitabh Bachchan, a regular collaborator of Balki, who will share the screen space with Kumar after 12 years.
