Great topic!

There were several popular stars in each decade, especially the earlier eras. Nowadays, thanks to the rise of social media, we have lots of celebrities, who are not necessarily popular cinestars (i.e. famous due to PR hype rather than their films).

Guru Dutt amassed a cult following over time, even though he was not that big a superstar in the 50s

Ashok Kumar, too...but he is someone I would put in the 40s superstars list

Srk LOL kuch bhi.. uska toh poora career yrf aur karan johar ne banaya hai.. ab woh bhi flop ho gaye toh srk bhi pit chuka hai.. SRK could not even cross HAHK in whole 90's and in 2000s could not even get highest grosser of year when hrithik commercial movie released .. thoo🤢

my ass he is debatable.. salman has not even crossed Aamir's records even once since ghajini.. he gets highest grossers of the year only when Aamir is on leave i.e no aamir commercial movie release that year.. kaahe ka number 1? thoo🤢
