Hey all!
For those who don't me (which is probably like this full forum), I'm Shreya. I enjoy thrillers, suspense, and unique shows that are not your typical run-of-the-mill. Nowadays that happens to be Rishton Ka Chakravyuh and Dev. Anyways I digress. I enjoy reviewing shows and certain episodes once I get hooked to a show and it's very hard for me to get hooked to a show, so let's see if Haasil can join the forces or not.
Until I'm here though, I thought I would drop in with my two cents on today's first episode. You'll notice the title says Hits, Misses, So-So's, and IDK (basically Comment Withheld). At the end of each part, I'll put in what I felt. Do feel free to drop by and give your own thoughts and disagree with me. I love reading other people's opinions and responding.
Actors:
Vatsal Seth - This man is a charmer, but he seems to play a similar role in each of his shows. He owned it as Shaurya, wooed as Aarav, and wowed as Sahil. Now he's back as Kabir and so far his character seems to be a mishmash of these characters. Though he does get into the skin of the character very well. A young man who loves his brother deeply, is a spoilt brat, and yet is not all that bad yet. But let's see. Hit.
Nikita Dutta - This is the first time I'm seeing her onscreen and I like her character and her role so far. She is portraying it nicely and has a good relationship with her mother and brother. I loved the teasing and the way she took "bribes" from both to make them win and ended up winning herself. I mean come on who else walks away with 3 of her favourite desserts and 500 rupees all in a morning's work? I do look forward to her grey shades coming out. Hit.
Zayed Khan - There's a reason I left him till the end because the less that's said the better. When he first meets Kabir, you would expect some sort of presence that would explain his being bade. But he failed. Miss.
Aanchal's mother and brother - Two good characters and good actors, especially Aanchal's brother. (Sorry I don't know their real names.) His camaraderie with his sister is endearing and sweet and I like that the CVs have flipped stereotypes on their head by making Aanchal a lawyer and her brother a chef. Hit and hit.
Raichand parents - When Sheeba Akashdeep first entered I felt like I was seeing Sakshi Goenka all over again. The same sari style, the same walk, the same hairstyle, and so on. I guess it's too early to say, but I was hoping that the CVs wouldn't copy that. On the other hand we have Mohit Chauhan as Mr. Raichand. He's a great actor, but I don't know. I don't really see him in this all-powerful Raichand role. He doesn't seem to match it. So-so and so-so.
Story - So far half of the promo has already been played out here. And the story is moving at a good pace. They didn't take forever to introduce the characters. They were introduced and the story quickly moved towards the encounter between Aanchal and the Raichands. They aren't wasting any time here, which makes sense given this is a finite series. (By the way anyone know the number of episodes this series will air for?) IDK. Comment withheld for the time being.
Cinematography - Grand locations, real locations it seems, and locations that make sense. Aanchal's room has a sense of belonging. It's not just decorated with pink things and left at it. It feels real. The Raichand mansion is realistic for a family of their stature. The yacht that Kabir wanted to gift Ranvir also realistic. Overall so far so good. Hit.
Dialogues - Some are realistic, some not so much. I feel more work can be done here. The dialogues that the Raichand parents mouthed were too over-the-top. So-so.
Costumes - The dressing matches the characters that have been introduced to us in the promos and so far. Ranvir is the businessman, the new heir, and so he wears the three piece suits, the crisp sherwani with jacket, and the fully tinted sunglasses. Kabir is the flamboyant, spoilt brat and so his clothes are more athletic, cool, and ruffled in nature, though stylish and artistic in a sense. Aanchal has been shown as the middle-class lawyer, not poor but not uper rich and her clothes are the simple clothes that we all wear. Hit.
Interesting trivia:
- Aanchal, Ranvir, and Kabir are all wearing the same shaded light blueish clothes in the puja scene when they come face-to-face. Blue often represents the colour of peace, tranquility, and calm, which was in direct contrast to the scene. Interesting choice of colours or maybe just a coincidence.
- Ranvir's shades on the powerboat were fully tinted and covered the full top of his face. Does this hint towards a darker background for him? Maybe he isn't all that sweet and nice as he seems. The sunglasses almost seemed like a mask. Again maybe I'm reading too much into it, but nothing is as it seems.
- Ranvir's comment to his mother "kisi ko toh mujhse faida huya" seems to have many layers to it. Zayed didn't do a good job with the delivery, but it almost seems like not everything is fine between mother and son.
- The eagle that we keep seeing looks like it'll play a big role in the future for revealing the true character of each and the true mystery behind this game of power.
Questions (falling into the Miss category):
- Which guy gives out a crore rupees and a house to each employee on his birthday and exactly how much money do these guys have that he was able to do that? A house fine I'll accept. But a crore each?
- How did Ranvir reach the yacht site so fast?
- Why would Kabir blow up the yacht instead of just pushing the new owner off it or beating him up?
- Why threaten someone who just was doing her duty as a lawyer?
Precap: Overall interesting, but why would you go alone to an abandoned place so late at night?
Overal rating: First episode and promos combined get a 3.5 out of 5 from me. A lot needs to be done especially in terms of the misses and so-so's.
