🤗 Stuti.. as promised, I did not go to bed till I caught up on it all... the result was that I woke up late... and had to rush to get my sons to school on time! But that's another story😆

So, ROD is right now at a stage where the more the mysteries are unfolding, the more there seems to be coming...

In the past 3 chapters, the focus seems to be on villains Bachu and Jaymal (Btw, Jaymal has turned out to have one redeeming quality if you can call it that 🤔- of being a not-so-bad father)

Of the positive characters, Nirmala and her Late husband were the characters that shone out to me through the latest updates. 👏

Them and Jalal😎, of course!☺️

Don't believe me? Read on...

"It seems you are going to face a great loss if Sukanya does not marry Someswar?

"One minute Mr. Jaymal Singh. Jalal stopped him and placed himself of the sofa. "I want to talk with you.

"I don't want to.

"You have to, Jaymal Ji, it's not your choice.

Hai hai... what command!😉

So, we've come to know what connection it is that binds Someswar Singh's hotel-chain business and the farm. Disgusting, of course!

It was lovely the way Jalal zeroed-in on the sleeping pills mystery. But I also liked the fact that "Nirmala Aunty knows a lot since it gives more depth to her character.

Of course, we need to find out what it was in the diary that was tossed off. I'm sure it has to do with the confidential happenings of the farm and Paresh Sandhu's death. Now, it all boils down to how long it'd take Jalal to locate the needle in the haystack!

"I was about to mix the pills then, but... but then others- Maaji, Radhika and Saavitri maybe, came in the kitchen...

On that note, I am glad the above happened. ^^^Though I wish she did end the man's life... I am glad she wasn't able to... she's suffered a living hell all these days because of him.. no point spending the rest of her days in prison for this vile man!

As for Surya's infamous diary, we've come to know that all those important addresses and phone numbers are of old resorts and nearby hill-stations all involved with the with woman-trafficking racket🤢!

Should I feel sad about the fact that the lad had purchased a flat in Mumbai near Jodha's place? Or should I remain suspicious of why he got such a large sum of money in his account?🤔

As for Rishabh and his last words to Sukanya😡

"Do not love this loser; Forget and forgive me...and another after one day... I know how much I love you, but I can't deceive my family for my love. I will die without you but my loved ones will be saved.

I mean I understand why he left and I don't blame him for it one bit. I blame the WAY he left - like a coward!

And Jalal's words - "If Rishav is innocent, I will get him back to you. Don't worry.

I do not agree with Jalal's thoughts here. Why would Sukanya want herself and Rishabh to be together after the way Rishabh ran away? He could have at least given her a decent farewell, explaining his situation and wishing her well. Not hiding from her texts and leaving her in the lurch!

If I was Sukanya, I wouldn't want to be married to such a man.😕

Maan is quite the confusing character and I agree with Jalal's surmise that "It seems you don't at all want your father's murderer to be caught.😕

And at one point, the way he was leading them on, only to leave them hanging "He wants us to know everything about the farm and the past of this family, but he himself is not willing to tell us anything about it! Rather he is giving clues to me to show that how much does he know?

I can only imagine for investigating officers how annoying it must get for someone to speak to them in riddles when they're spending their days and nights trying to crack the case!😡 Silly Maan! Jodha should have given him one slap and said 'Spit it out, you brat... it's a murder investigation here... not some cricket match or TV serial!'

As for Bhagwant, I loved the way Jalal tackled an eternally-sweating Bhagwant! Especially this part.

"So you smoked for almost half an hour, till your wife goes to sleep, and collected all the ashes and the butts together and took them in your room, right? Jalal smiled. "But as per my observation, you have a very bad habit of throwing the butts of the cigarettes here and there in the room. So in that particular night you were practicing to become a good smoker?

🤣

This part was scary 😲- "Till I noticed someone stalking on me...a shadow... I followed that, but it disappeared in the dark at the corner of corridor...

And Lo and behold, Stuti comes up with another twist! "Maybe two people had planned to kill him simultaneously! Nice... of course, it gives Stuti darling plenty of opportunity to add more twists and turns allowing us to continue on this merry-go-round!

And we all know what it means when there's a big mismatch in the records of female employees, with many unaccounted female workers working in the farm.

"Years ago... He wanted to make the girls earning and independent and that's why he took the initiative. Ramesh Ji replied. "This new venture was exclusively hit.

Yeah right! Is Tiwari ji delusional? Or is there another twist, Stuti?

In three chapters, there's one line that I particularly liked Jodha for... hai hai... "Remember, apart from your Sahani, there is one officer of Mumbai Police present right in this area.

"Rishav Sindhu booked a cab for 3 days right from the station and had come towards this way only. There was one more person with him! Neelu. I am a little lost about this Neelu character can you refresh me what he does and where he comes...😕

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
so now, waiting for the upcoming chapters to know about Bachu connection, the Neelu character, missing Surya and much more! Is Jalal really going away to Mumbai leaving Jodha? I hope Jodha's life is not in trouble when he's away... 🤔
Great work Stuti... the toughest genre to write is mystery. And you are doing a great job of it!👏
My only advice would be to keep the updates coming regularly... unlike a romance or drama, with a mystery such as this one it becomes easier for the reader to keep track of the developments...🤗
You're so sweet Di! 🤗Oh so you were late in morning and had undergone quite a lot of hazards it seems. 😆 Thank you so much for this! 😃 I was literally yearning for you here. 😃
So, ROD is right now at a stage where the more the mysteries are unfolding, the more there seems to be coming...
Hmmm...😉
In the past 3 chapters, the focus seems to be on villains Bachu and Jaymal (Btw, Jaymal has turned out to have one redeeming quality if you can call it that 🤔- of being a not-so-bad father)
I personally feel Jaymal as a person is way better than his brother. He at least has some humane qualities. 😛
Of the positive characters, Nirmala and her Late husband were the characters that shone out to me through the latest updates. 👏
Yes😳
Them and Jalal😎, of course!☺️
Obviously, he is the brightest one! And coolest too!😎
Don't believe me? Read on...
A born-commander! 😉 😆
Yeah😡
It was lovely the way Jalal zeroed-in on the sleeping pills mystery. But I also liked the fact that "Nirmala Aunty knows a lot since it gives more depth to her character.
Okay, the next chaapter is all about the missing diary! Hold on! 😉
"I was about to mix the pills then, but... but then others- Maaji, Radhika and Saavitri maybe, came in the kitchen...
On that note, I am glad the above happened. ^^^Though I wish she did end the man's life... I am glad she wasn't able to... she's suffered a living hell all these days because of him.. no point spending the rest of her days in prison for this vile man!
Of-course!
As for Surya's infamous diary, we've come to know that all those important addresses and phone numbers are of old resorts and nearby hill-stations all involved with the with woman-trafficking racket🤢!
Yup!😡
Should I feel sad about the fact that the lad had purchased a flat in Mumbai near Jodha's place? Or should I remain suspicious of why he got such a large sum of money in his account?🤔
😆😆
As for Rishabh and his last words to Sukanya😡
"Do not love this loser; Forget and forgive me...and another after one day... I know how much I love you, but I can't deceive my family for my love. I will die without you but my loved ones will be saved.
Sukanya was literally trying to commit suicide as she is mad in love na? I don't think as per Sukanya's character, that if he comes back she will turn back thinking about his cowardice as she actually wants to be with him.
Well, maybe he had no choice of meeting her for the last time as he was being watched and all. He was coward and frightened and did not stand for her... so coward that never even called her over phone... But Jalal has only said her that he will get him back to her; what Sukanya will do with him is not Jalal's concern after that. 😆
But yeah... You have to think twice before thinking Rishav as coward. The murderer is yet to be revealed. 😉
If I was Sukanya, I wouldn't want to be married to such a man.😕
Neither I... But I know many who might. 😆
Maan is quite the confusing character and I agree with Jalal's surmise that "It seems you don't at all want your father's murderer to be caught.😕
Actually he does not!
And at one point, the way he was leading them on, only to leave them hanging "He wants us to know everything about the farm and the past of this family, but he himself is not willing to tell us anything about it! Rather he is giving clues to me to show that how much does he know?
Jodha should have given him one slap and said 'Spit it out, you brat... it's a murder investigation here... not some cricket match or TV serial!'
😆 I can imagine Jodha doing this! 😆
But he too has his own reasons of this strange behavior. 😆
As for Bhagwant, I loved the way Jalal tackled an eternally-sweating Bhagwant! Especially this part.
"So you smoked for almost half an hour, till your wife goes to sleep, and collected all the ashes and the butts together and took them in your room, right? Jalal smiled. What Tiwariji did?😕
In three chapters, there's one line that I particularly liked Jodha for... hai hai... "Remember, apart from your Sahani, there is one officer of Mumbai Police present right in this area.
"Rishav Sindhu booked a cab for 3 days right from the station and had come towards this way only. There was one more person with him! Neelu. I am a little lost about this Neelu character can you refresh me what he does and where he comes...😕
Neelu was the son of their maid and also a part-time servant of the house. At the day of murder Bharmal drove him from house with a allegation of theft and he told he will take revenge.
I try but it is tough to manage time... 😔 Also, I was not updating this one as there were not much responses of the last chapter😡
Now I will update. Probably today or tomorrow. 😃
CHAPTER 12
In the storeroom...
"Hey Jalal...
Jalal turned back seeing Jodha peeping out from her room. "Where're you going?
"In the attic. An excited Jalal told in hurry. "I think I am going to find something which may answer many questions.
"Wait I am also coming... Jodha too rushed to him. "You have just met an injury, why don't you rest... Jalal protested a bit but it fled in front of Jodha's enthusiasm. "Don't tell! The army of Sahani Sahab is storming inside each and every room of the house, and even they are not sparing my room! I will get much rest with you than to sit inside the room in this cacophony! Offf!
"The army of Sahani Sahab has become too much efficient it seems! Jalal laughed.
"Don't laugh! Jodha faked anger. "After this searching drama is done, order them to arrange everything in place, understood?
"No prob, my darlo... I will do that for you!
"Really? Then God save my room!! I know very well how much efficient you are in case of arranging the disorganized rooms!
While talking together they had reached at the storeroom. Jalal opened the old lock with the key he had brought from Meenakshi. "It seems none comes here much... He commented while removing the spider-web from his front. "Aunty told Surya used to come here frequently 1-2 years ago in search of some old books... then...
"I don't remember if I have ever entered this room. Jodha stated. "In our childhood it was referred as the zombie-room of our house.
"Let's see what type of zombies Surya had found from here, and what we are going to find... Jalal proceeded to a rack and removed the dusts from the upper surface of that. Jodha too got ready to help him by opening the old cupboard which was full of old torn books, papers and broken photo-frames...
"You start from left, I am searching from right. Jalal instructed her amusedly. "And don't scream seeing the spiders...
"You're underestimating Jodha Singh, Mr. Khan! Jodha smiled and removed the spider-webs... "Hey look, what a treasure I have found!
"Where? Where? You got the diary?? Jalal almost jumped and came to her. Jodha giggled seeing his excitement. "Nehi baba! It is nothing of your interest... Only the certificates and group photo of my maa's college... Look! She handed the frame to Jalal.
"This left side girl is your mother... she was undoubtedly gorgeous. Jalal was scrutinizing the picture. "She used to read in Chatrapati Shivaji Mahavidyalaya of Mahabaleswar? It was a very famous college of that time...
"I heard she was quite a good student. And very smart too... Jodha cleaned the dust from the photo-frame with utter care. Jalal did not remove his eyes from the glass, his eager eyes were still finding something... "Hey mister, do your work. Jodha smiled and started her search. There are a lot of old books and diaries in the heap of dust, but no sign of the particular diary they were looking for.
Jalal thought for a while, then keeping the photo frame aside, he started searching too. He concentrated on a rack, containing some old albums. Opening the first album, a bright smile glowed in his face. The picture is of Mr. Sujamal Singh's young age, the same photo which is hanging in the room of Dadi. So the album too belongs to him. He turned the page. It seemed it is the album of his college days. There are a lot of photos of his college, the excursion, the group of friends... Jalal became unmindful seeing those pictures...
"Hello Sir, what have you discovered, let me see too... Jodha laughed and took the album from him. "It's my uncle's album, see.
"Yes but some of the pictures are not there. The places are vacant. Jalal murmured.
"Old photographs... maybe they are lost or ruined... what's so uncanny about it... Jodha was confused seeing Jalal. "Yeah! Right! Jalal got back to consciousness. "Let us find the thing which we were searching for... He kept the album with a bang, and accidentally some negatives came out from the back portion of the album. "What are they... Jalal picked them up, his frown deepened. "Jodha, can you put the light on them from mobile?
Jodha did so and Jalal tried to recon what the photos actually are from the negative... "It seems some intimate pictures... Strange! He took the negatives in the pocket. "Okay, let's start searching again...
Meanwhile Jodha had found something... "Look here. She called Jalal.
There was nothing but a pile of old, yellow almost torn letters. Jalal took one in hand and popped his eyes.
"What happened? Jodha touched him.
"These are love-letters my darling... Jalal smiled meaningfully. "But thing is, who has written to whom that can't be told, as there's no name of sender and receiver.
"Interesting... Jodha took them in hand amusedly. "Though, since they are found with the things of Sujamal Kaka, you can guess they belonged to him only. She started going through one of them. "Seems like the girl is writing to the boy... but I wonder, Nirmala Kaki can't write these... then?
Jalal was thinking something else, after a while he told. "However, maybe he had someone in his life when he was in college... why we are bothered... let's do our work!
"But... you know, why I feel I know the handwriting... I can't remember but... Jodha bit her lips. "Maybe, maybe I am mistaking somehow... This type of handwriting is not very uncommon but still something is stinging me.
Jalal gazed at her face with deep frown. "But where is the diary? He told after a while...
"I don't think that is here... Jodha shook her head. "Maybe someone has taken that away long ago and...
Jalal was going to comment something on this, but he had to stop, as the shout of Maan had compelled both of them to come out.
"What happened, Maan! Jodha asked noticing Maan standing at the door of the storeroom.
"Come to the roof at once! Maan was sweating. "Someone has caught fire at the roof. Some papers are burning!
On the roof...
They could see the smoke swirling in the air from a good distance before witnessing the fire. A lot of paper was burning at one corner of the roof, and it is quite clear from the half-burnt matchsticks on the ground that this fire is deliberate. Jalal rushed to the place, staring at the burning papers helplessly. Jodha had the quick-wit, she got the pipe of watering the flowerpots at once and extinguished the fire... "Look Jalal some papers are still readable. She called.
Jalal sat on the ground, removed the ashes to gather the readable parts of the papers... He sighed deeply looking the cover of the copy which was burning actually... "It seems this is the diary which we were searching for long! He showed the half-burnt cover of the diary whose year indicates the same year when Mr. Sujamal passed away.
"But... but who burnt this? And why? Jodha stated confusedly.
"Someone is here who does not want that we read the diary! Jalal got silent. It seemed he is going to be completely silent for a long time.
"How did you find this, Maan? Jodha asked Maan.
"I had come in this roof to water my bonsais... they hadn't been watered for a long time na, so... however, then I saw these and immediately rushed to you guys. Maan said.
"Didn't you see anyone running away?
"Actually I didn't pay heed much; maybe there was someone at the dark corner behind the doors of upstairs when I went to the roof but I am not sure... I only heard the sounds of you both in the store-room so was curious about that, did not pay attention at the corner of upstairs.
"Ohh! Jodha nodded. This place is almost abandoned, and there are many dark corners here and there near to the door of the roof where anyone can hide. Even she and Jalal did not feel anyone's presence at the roof when they were in the store-room of the attic.
"What now, Jalal? Jodha touched Jalal's shoulder. He was trying to read the half-burnt paper minutely, his frown was deepened so much that his brows had formed a proper bow... he turned to Jodha, his eyes blank, clearly indicating he was in a deep thought.
"What happened, Jalal?
"Haa? It seemed Jalal got back into sense. He swiftly gathered the readable pieces together and got up. "Jodha, I need to go out of Madhubani.
"What? Jodha was perplexed.
"Nothing... let's go! Jalal tried to get back in his usual charming self. "I have to see what the vanarsena of Mr. Sahani is doing! And also by now the body should have arrived, there are a lot of rituals of cremation too...
"But what about the diary, Jalal? Jodha asked curiously.
"You mean these? Jalal laughed pointing at the burnt pages of his hand. Then he became serious. "This is not written in the form of a usual diary... Whatever I have discovered from the remaining pages it seems like a letter... a letter which is written to very dear one.
"Can you guess the context? Jodha asked.
Jalal smiled pale, he did not answer.
24th December, at afternoon...
At afternoon, all the males of the house, including Jodha too, had gone for the cremation of Bharmal's body. The silence of death and sorrow was echoing in every corner of the house. Mohini, Sukanya and Shibani were sitting in the drawing hall, discussing about the incidents of morning in a very low voice; Meenakshi and other elder ladies were busy in some rituals.
Jalal was busy with his office works, but his mind was somewhere else. He was thinking about the burnt pages of the diary. He was trying to decrypt those clues left in the half-burnt alphabets of the diary... He was thinking from entirely a different angle before, but it seems he needs to start freshly now.
His phone vibrated. Jalal got up and took up the call.
"Yes Ruqaiya...
...
"Yes...
...
"Hmm... hmmm... okay!
...
"Nice! Carry on, I will be reaching tomorrow...
...
"Bye Ruqaiya.
After ending the call Jalal kept on staring unmindfully at the screen, frowning deeply. Then he put on his slippers and got out of the room.
Before going to the hall, he peeped into Dadi's room. She is surprisingly not in her bed. Maybe in the temple... the old lady really needs peace!
In slow pace he entered and noticed each and every change in the room. The searching party did not care to search this room much, going by the tidiness of the room. Jalal ran his eyes through the things, did not find anything noticeable. He then took the box of medicines in his hand and took the prescription, reading that carefully. With a frown he left that and went near to the waste-bin, looking that unmindfully...
"Arree Jalal!
Jalal turned back. The old lady was looking at him with a dull smile in her face. Her face clearly reflects under what trauma she is going though. Even Jalal felt the ache inside heart seeing the pale and feeble face of this loving lady...
"I had come to meet you Dadi... He smiled and helped her to sit on the bed. "Where were you? You should not walk much now, you are still weak. Now sit and have rest!
Perhaps there was a touch of genuine concern in Jalal's voice that made Dadi's smile brighter. "I no more care for my health! then she said in a deep and truthful voice. "God knows what he wants from me! Both of my sons are gone, and I am still here, expected to be healthy and fine again!
"Don't say this way, Dadi... Jalal touched her hand... "There are so many people in this house who love you and want you to be fine. You have to get well for sake of them...
"Yes... they all love me too much! She sighed. "But when the God listens to the loving ones when he decides to take away someone from them? She looked at the big portrait of Sujamal Singh hanging in the wall. "You know him? My son Sujamal! He was only in his thirties when he left us... He left his wife and his little daughter behind... did not care for them, did not care for his mother! He was the apple of eyes of all... he was loved by all... he used to love all! He had a big heart... Perhaps he was too dear to Him too!! Her voice choked with the bubble of tears. Jalal kept on staring at her while caressing her hand...
After a while she wiped out her tears... "Have they come back? You know? Bharmal is... Her voice choked again. "Bharmal is gone forever?
Jalal shook his head... "They will come soon Dadi... He sighed. Then he looked at the table. "Have you taken your medicines today?
Dadi nodded, and smiled. She put her hand on Jalal's head and caressed his hairs. "My Jodha will be very lucky to have you as her husband...
Jalal smiled shyly, while his heart suddenly filled with a deep melancholy.
"Dadi... he asked after a while. "Don't you want to know who killed Mr. Bharmal? He was not only stabbed, he has been poisoned before that...
"I don't care anymore! Dadi smiled with the drop of water shining at the corner of her eyes... "Whoever has done it, I know, is also very dear to me! I have seen a lot in my life Jalal! I am at the edge of endurance now. I do not care anymore!
Jalal sighed deeply. Both of them kept silent for a long time...
"Maa...aa..aa
Dadi looked out of the door... "Come in, Radhika!
Jalal noticed Radhika Kaki. She was normal a moment before, but after seeing Jalal all the colours of her face is soaked again and again she is trembling in fear...
"Good afternoon Radhika kaki... Jalal smiled with courtesy, with his eyes shining when they met with Radhika...
"I... I was here...for... this... Radhika managed to keep the glass of milk on the table with her trembling hands and was about to leave, Jalal stopped her. "Wait... He told. "Let's go outside, I need to ask those questions I was asking you in morning...
He got out of the room, followed by Radhika in a nervous face...
With Radhika...
Jalal came in the drawing hall and sat on the sofa. "So tell me where you were at the time of Bharmal Singh's murder?
Radhika was literally trembling; however, she managed to found herself a sofa in front of Jalal to sit clumsily, then gulped. "I... I was not in room...
"I know. Jalal told quiet softly. "Where were you?
Radhika's lips shivered... "I... I got out of the room when lights were just gone... to check if Savitri- our maid has switched off the lights or not... I... I am telling... telling truth!
Jalal crossed his legs and sat straight. "Listen, I do not have more time to waste. So, to cut the long story short, tell me what you were hiding...
Radhika was still shivering as she gulped thrice in tension, then taking a long breath she spoke... "I... I saw something... that... that...
"What did you see? Jalal frowned.
"I saw Surya! Radhika blurted out. "Yeah! When I was going to kitchen through the corridor Surya was in front of Jaithji'r room, leaning from balcony. We didn't talk... And when I... I was returning, I saw Surya... he... Radhika stopped and started shivering again.
"Surya what? Complete your statement... Jalal told impatiently.
"He was in Jaithji's room... When I peeped in, I saw him from back... and something sharp was shining in his hand... I doubted it was a knife but forcefully denied that to go to sleep...
Jalal was stunned for a moment.
"Are you sure he was Surya? You told that you saw his back. And there was dark too. Then he told.
"Y...yes... hmmm... maybe... Radhika looked confused. "He was wearing the... the same shirt... he... was... he was Surya I know!
Jalal stared at her for a long time with deep frowns. Then he looked thoughtful. "What was Mr. Bharmal doing that time?
"I could not see his face! Radhika answered readily.
"And where were Bhagwant?
Radhika's face dropped again hearing her child's name. "He is innocent! He knows nothing! He is innocent! She murmured like insane.
"That's a different thing. I am asking did you see Bhagwant nearby at that time?
"N...no... probably...not...
"So according to your statement it is almost confirmed that Surya is the one who killed Bharmal Ji?
"Y...yes... Radhika looked excited. "He is not that easy that he looks like... He killed Jaithji, you find him. My children are innocent, don't disturb them please! Her voice sounded like lament!
Jalal remained silent as his frowns grown deeper. Then sighing a little he again got busy with his mobile phone. "Thank you very much Radhika Ji, you may leave now. He picked his eyes for a minute and instructed Radhika.
"You promise me that nothing will happen to my child! Radhika suddenly held Jalal's hand desperately.
"Nothing will happen to those who are telling truth... Jalal removed his hand.
